You don’t except to find a real bagel store in the hicks that why this place gets 5 stars. The counter staff and drive-thru staff are friendly and very welcoming. They make bagels the authentic way by boiling them before they go in the oven. This baking process makes for a crust and proper consistency outside the bagel as well as inside. If you love bagles this is the only place in town making them from scratch properly. Put down the frozen bagel or that sorry excuse for a bagel served at the corporate outfits and get ready for the truth. New York Bagles is a great place to take a family for breakfast. The value is incredible. Fantastic place you will not be disappointed. Very busy on weekend morning, as any great bagel store should be.

LOVENYB! They have the best bagel sandwiches for breakfast AND lunch around! The lines are usually very long if you go in the morning, but it’s worth the wait if you’re not on a time restriction. Always check your order though… sometimes the young kids working accidently switch yours with someone else’s.

Awesome, awesome, awesome bagels and breakfast sandwiches. The French Toast bagel is messy, but totally worth it. The Asiago bagel is also pretty amazing. You can taste little bits of cheese in it, which is a nice little treat. The staff is pretty good and helpful. The only thing forcing me to dock two stars is the coffee. It is horrible. I wasn’t expecting much from it, but wow. Not good. It tastes like maybe they don’t clean out their servers very well or maybe it’s just straight up awful coffee. So yeah, definitely get some bagels and maybe ask for water cup or fountain soda instead of getting a coffee.

If you’re not in New York City, these are the best bagels out there. My dad is a bagel connoisseur and our family has been regulars at this establishment for almost 20 years. No, the service isn’t that great, but if you were buying a bagel with lox(smoked salmon) in NYC it’d be worse. But the bagels here are really the best. They make them the right way, boiling them and baking them. Perfect chewy NYC goodness. Everything from lox and cream cheese, breakfast sandwiches, and deli sandwiches, all on bagels of course. They also make a mean lox spread that cheaper than the lox and cream cheese, and just as good in my opinion. Onion or poppy-seed bagel are personal favorites, but you won’t be disappointed by any of them.

Best bagels this side of Brooklyn. Been coming here for 19 years and though the building has upgraded, they’re still using the same old boiling vats, ovens, and making the same great bagels. Rude service, just like NYC. But hey, hard to complain when the bagels are this good. My favs are sun dried tomato, spinach, and poppy seed but they’ve got 20 flavors on any given day. Good specialty cream cheeses.

Best bagels around!!! My Brooklyn born & raised mother says these are as good, possibly even better than the ones she buys there. Friendly service. 5 stars!!!

It’s high time I eat a proper bagel, and that’s exactly what I’ll be getting at this place as soon as it opens today. In terms of eating, it’s a highlight of coming to Reading for family visits. I’ve never been disappointed by any of their bagels or cream cheeses. My personal favorite is the everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. Delish!!!

No complaints here. Excellent bagels and bagel sandwiches. The best part is that the breakfast sandwiches are served all day and they have a drive thru.

I gotta say, I am happily surprised by this place, for years I had written it off because it seriously had the WORSTSERVICE of any restaurant I had ever been to. Today however, I felt inclined to give it another chance, I don’t know of they completely rehired the staff or became more aware of the horrible service but the place has really turned itself around. The bagel selection is great, as is the different specialty cream cheeses. Seriously a good place to check out if you want a unique bagel.

I have lived in the area for many years, and I never tried New York Bagelry. Personally, growing up, we would always go to Take 2 Bagels. My co-worker insisted that I have a breakfast sandwich from there. Nothing crazy — bacon, egg, cheese(extra) on an everything bagel. I tell you what — I have been there 3 times in the last 2 weeks. It’s just as good and fresh each and every time. I will continue to go back! I have been to the one in West Lawn and the one in Kenhorst. Neither disappoints!

The bagels and spreads are amazing… the only issue is the workers. Almost everytime I go, I get the same exact thing. Nothing has changed, except for the price. In all seriousness, I have never been charged the same price twice… also you need to check your order before you leave the drive thru. There is a 90% chance that your order is wrong. If the service was improved, this would be a winner!

The best 4 dollar breakfast around. They have a great variety of different bagels. The only negative is that its just about always packed and the parking is a bit screwy when it gets full. People going through the drive through block others from exiting the parking lot. Its packed for a good reason however. The employees are kind, and the food is fresh and good. Im here at least 2 or 3 tines per week and I dont plan on that stopping anytime soon.

I LOVE this place!!! My favorite is the pork roll(taylor ham as they call it) and cheese on an everything bagel. But they have a great variety of bagels, the french toast bagel is to die for!(i like it toasted with butter) Of course their cream cheeses are also amazing, and homemade to boot! the fruit ones have real fruit in them and are not over power and made w crap, and the same goes for the veggie cream cheese(good sized real veggie chunks, not the processed crap you get at the store). The owners/managers are always very nice. This place did lose 1 star on account of service. I understand that they employ young high school kids but they are rather rude and un-personable. If you are going to be grouchy and miserable to customers, find a new job where you dont have people interaction.

Jury’s out on this one, but $ 9 for a pound of egg salad seems kinda steep to me… I don’t care how good the darned stuff is. I do like the«drive thru» feature though, especially on a cold day.

I make the drive from the other side of Reading to get my bagels in West Lawn. Great bagels at a great price, this place has a fantastic selection, which ranges from plain bagels to a french toast bagel. This place is absolutely fantastic. These guys are good at making bagels and that is what they stick to. Everything is bagel related, the sandwiches, the cream cheeses are all there to complement their robust selection of bagels. They have a great deal for $ 18; you get 14 bagels and two ½ lb. tubs of cream cheese. I already mentioned the variety of bagels that they have, don’t let me forget to tell you about the cream cheese. They have a wide selection of cream cheeses, from fruit flavored, to vegetable based cream cheeses they have it all. Too bad I prefer simple butter on my toasted bagel. However whenever I have an event at the office, I grab the $ 18 deal and I am suddenly the king of the office for the day(or at least the morning). Everyone really enjoys the spread you get out of the little cost. If you haven’t tried this place yourself you are doing yourself a disservice. They will also give you freezer bags, which is convenient because I only have to go every two weeks!

In town visiting family and took my cousin’s recommendation to check this place out. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. I ordered a french toast bagel and took the recommendation of the clerk to pair this with strawberry cream cheese. The other options she gave me were chocolate chip cream cheese or walnut and raisin cream cheese. Adjacent to the cashier is a glassed cabinet which contains a wide selection of bagels ranging from a black russian bagel to chocolate chip. I have tried a lot of bagels from a variety of locations in California but this french toast bagel was by far, one of if not THE best bagels I have ever tasted. The only thing that I would have modified about my experience was the fact that there was copious amounts of cream cheese on my bagel. I personally do not like a lot of cream cheese on my bagel and therefore this is more of a personal gripe. However, it is very nice to know that in this day and age, some restaurants still provide you ‘more’ rather than ‘less.’ The strawberry cream cheese was delicious and included chunks of strawberry. It was smooth and tasty but not overpowering. With respect to the service, the clerk was very friendly and helpful. She did not mind that I took my time to make a selection considering that this was my first time here. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend stopping by for a quick breakfast or lunch at this ‘finger-licking’ worthy bagel store.

Oh my gosh the bagels here make my life. I must admit I might be a bit biased because I know people there. Every time I come home I head straight for the bagelry. But let me lay it out for you: The owners know how to make bagels. One is from Manhattan and the other is from Queens. They worked at a shop together in NY and decided they wanted their own place. They came down and scoured the countryside outside of Philly to find a place without bagels. And BAM. There it was, the tiny city of Reading, Pa. It wasn’t saturated with bagel places and needed some help. So they took what used to be a wholesale seafood place that looked like an old ship and made it a bagel shop. I admit, before the massive refurbishment of 2008 the place looked pretty bad on the inside. But now it’s great. The eating area is new and open. Everything’s clean. These guys have invested a lot into their business and will do everything to make you happy. Their sandwiches, both breakfast and lunch are to die for. They use real eggs, sausage, bacon and ham. None of the fake pre-made stuff here. And the lunch sandwiches have freshly sliced meat(the owners insist on this) and fresh toppings. Everything is made from scratch here. And the bagels are SO good. They make them properly as is pointed out in the other reviews. The owners are very particular about how the bagels are made and never cut corners on ingredients. The egg, tuna and chicken salad are made from scratch by one of the owners. They’re fantastic. Having been going there for three years I can tell you with confidence to come in early Saturday and Sunday so you don’t have to stand in a substantial line. I can also tell you that the people are very friendly and moving as fast as they can behind the counter. Stop by and experience one of their bagels and you’ll be blown away.

This is probably the only good bagel I’ve ever had outside of the NY metro area. My college, a fantastic place, lacked real pizzas and bagels, and this New Yorker was well aware. Surprisingly after I denied the possibility that I would find a real bagel in Pennsylvania, my lovely girlfriend took me on a trip to her local bagel shop. When I saw them boiling the bagels in the process, I admitted there was a real possibility here. Golden brown and fluffy on the inside. Very good bagel, pleasantly surprised and I gave credit where it was surely due. I have to believe the owner is from NY/NJ/CT otherwise I don’t know how this could be. Regardless I would love to hear from him/her to learn a bit more about this bagelry.
