Valvoline Instant Oil Change

I came here today to have my daughters car checked. We are visiting from out of town and she is a student at Mizzou so I knew she wasn’t taking care of the car the way she should. Came to this location as it was close to where we were. The staff couldn’t have been nicer. They were able to handle a variety of miscellaneous repairs and because I had done work at another Valvoline in California the car record was on file so that was very helpful. They gave me some tips to share with her for taking care of the car. Felt like they addressed the right issues and didn’t feel like I was oversold.

This location consistently does a hard press for additional products especially when you try to use a coupon. I’ve tolerated it in the past but today was the final straw.
I handed the associate a coupon and gave him clear instructions that I wanted conventional oil, and I did not want him to check the air filter. He informed me the air filter check was part of the service. I told him I did not want it checked because it was difficult to remove and put back on. He responded in a snarky manner «Not really.» I guess he didn’t know I’d been to that location in the past and the associates were unable to put the air filter cover back on properly.
Then, he asks me if I’m aware that synthetic oil is recommended in my vehicle. I guess he wasn’t aware that my vehicle rolled off the assembly line with conventional oil and the oil cap clearly states conventional is ok. Again, I told him I wanted conventional. At this point, I was getting mad. I gave this guy clear instructions on what I wanted yet he wouldn’t listen. Finally, he asked, «Is there any reason you don’t want synthetic.»
I’d had enough and left.
I didn’t call the manager and try to get the employee in trouble as I believe it is corporate or a manager that is pushing these kids to upsell no matter what.
Fortunately there are many places in Raytown to get my oil changed that will follow my instructions without the hassle.

The only one I’ll go to. Not just that I’ll only go to Valvoline… I’ll only go to the one in Raytown. They are 100% awesome and I am 100% picky. There is a Valvoline blocks from my house, but I will still drive all the way across KC to go to Raytown.
Do you hate to get your oil changed because they always try to hard sell you overpriced things and then act like you’re an idiot when you say no? Go to this location. They will sometimes offer you something but they DO NOT beat you over the head with it. I also love that you don’t get out of your car so you can monitor what is going on.
I seriously love this place.
