History

Established in 1998.

Founder and CEO John Hewitt has a nationally recognized name in the tax and accounting world. He is a veteran of 43 tax seasons, the founder of two top tax preparation firms, and a former H&R Block regional director.

Liberty Tax Service started in Canada September 1, 1997 when founder and CEO John Hewitt acquired a Canadian tax franchisor, U&R Tax Depot. In 1998, the company became Liberty Tax Service, and opened 5 offices in the United States. By 1999, Liberty Tax Service operated 35 offices in seven markets across the country. Today there are over 4,000 offices in the United States and Canada. Liberty Tax Service is simply the fastest growing international tax service ever.

Meet the Manager

Gregg H.

Manager

Gregg was born and raised in Rapid City, leaving only to attend Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. He graduated with honors receiving a B.A. in Psychology in 2004. He was active in his school’s student congress and fraternity holding positions from Treasurer to President while being honored by his school as the Outstanding Greek of the Year in 2003.

Gregg began working for Liberty as a night processor in the 2007 tax season. He has also worked as a marketer, tax preparer, and office manager. He has been a part of the management staff since 2009. He has worked extensively to resolve clients issues directly with various states and the IRS and has a wealth of experience in navigating the sometimes complex world of the IRS.

Outside of taxes, Gregg is also an accomplished sous chef, he enjoys cooking, boating, hiking, outdoors, photography, sports and Rush hockey. Please feel free to stop in at any time to speak with him in our year round office with any questions you may have.
