Pony Party Ride

My daughter’s party was reserved on 6÷14÷13 and I was told I would receive 2 picnic tables, a grill, a cotton candy machine, a bouncy house, and 2 ponies for rides for my party from 3 – 6 on 8÷25÷13. I made monthly phone calls (4 in total post reservation to confirm that my reservation was standing and offered pre-​payment, to which I was assured was not necessary and could be done the day of and that everything would be fine). Because I was so nervouse about things not going smoothly the day of, I made a visit the day before (at 6:30 pm and spoke with with the same young lady that took care of me during the party) and again I was assured that everything was confirmed and she explained the layout of the party and I told her I had 15 kids coming (40 people including parents at 3). She assured me we were all set and I went home happy.
I arrived at 2:30 to find a completely full parking lot in which I had to double park, a party in progress, and no tables set-​up for me to decorate. I waited to see if the party in progress would clear out and at 2:45 I found an employee and asked where my party would be. She then left to find out what was going on and didn’t come back for a while. I then went looking for another employee and another girl came to me and said they had another party that arrived late and were looking for tables for my party to put me somewhere else. My partywas supposed to begin at 3:00, and in 15 miutes the parents of 15 children were going to pull in and find no parking, and no tables, chairs, grill, cotton candy for their party.
When she came back at 3:00 it was to offer me a table under a tree in the parking lot. I explained that my daughter was 2 and this was not safe or at all possible. She told me she had no where else to put me and I asked if we could go on the front lawn of the owner’s house. She said ok and off she went. At 3:10 I had a patio small round table and another small round table. Not adequate for 15 kids and their parents. I asked for more tables and at 3:30 was brought a grill, picnic table and a buffet table. All tables, chairs, and grill were filthy. My guests that were not aimlessly looking for parking in the lot were helping me clean the tables and chairs after my mom asked if they could give us some paper towels and cleaning supplies because they dropped off the tables and chairs FILTHY. It took one of my guests 15 minutes to clean the grill.
While we were cleaning and I was embaressed that my guests were showing up I suggested they take the kids to the bouncy house for 20 minutes while we rallied. They did and quickly returned because the bouncy house was not only packed with kids but also filthy. So, they came back and watched us clean and set-​up. At 4:00 everything was up and ready and the hot dogs were on the grill. Things were going and I was optomistic. Then we had kids having to go to the bathroom only to find there are no bathrooms on the premises. How are you going to provide the ability to serve food via grill and not have bathrooms? Is that even legal? My guests went to Dunkin Donuts and I was embaressed and enraged because I was never told this important bit of information on any of my 4 previous calls, my original reservation call, or my vistit the night before.
Still, I was optomistic because we had the pony rides and that was going to make this all worth it. When our time came for the pony rides threre was only 1 pony available. I was promised 2. I was told that the other pony was at a party and running late. Eventually the pony showed up and the kids were happy. However, that was not what we agreed upon. At the very least, I would have expected the 2 ponies as promised!
We chose this business hoping to provide our daughter and her friends with a special day. With the expectation that they would provide the services agreed upon only to arrive to find additional work, stress, and embaressment. The fact that the party started an hour late and we left at 6:30 (30 minutes of clean up) says alot. I hope that this never happens to another family again. The staff was personable and kind but unfortunately, we were double booked (party and pony) and no one was prepared.
