Lawyers are sales persons. This year we’ve had some unfortunate events so we’ve met with several different lawyers, and that’s what I’ve learned. The first interview all of them put on the best show with the goal to get you hire them. There is nothing wrong with that. But be careful when some over-​promise but under-​perform. Brian Skibby is the best example. He made it seem like a wonderful world when we interviewed. But he didn’t follow thru. Without going into details, he was very weak and didn’t do what he’s supposed to do, and very likely messed up our case. Not only that, he doesn’t return phone calls or messages, or he returns them three days later. He failed to inform us critical information on time so we passed deadlines of decisions. When he finally called, he said «your next payment is due.» Good thing we took the payment plan although we could’ve paid upfront. We met with another lawyer for the case and that’s when we realized that he didn’t do what he could’ve done to benefit our case. He didn’t even bother to subpoena the cop that lied on the report. It’s bad enough you’re in a situation that needs a lawyer, I cannot tell you how much worse it’d get if you get the wrong lawyer.
