The Local Bark

We had a great puppy playtime and great first day of all day puppy play. We ate excited our 4 month old Welsh Pembroke Winston, gets to socialize with the staff and other pups. Great trainers to.

We recused a 105 lbs Boxer/​Mastiff and he was not properly socialized when he was a pup. We have started to work with Kris the trainer and have seen great improvement. She is very good and passionate about training dogs.
We can’t recommend her and Local Bark enough.

My dog is so tired after being at the Local Bark all weekend. I loved looking at Facebook for pictures during my trip so I knew she was having a good time. I even called once to check on her since this is the first time we have kenneled her. The girl who answered the phone was really friendly, pulled up Kona’s file and told me what the notes said about her stay so far. They really do take good care of your dog.

I wanted my puppy to have a class A education. There is nothing more frustrating than having a dog that won’t mind. So I took a friends advice and took my 6 month old Wheaten Terrier to The Local Bark. He now comes to me EVERY TIME I call him. He walks beside me without pulling on the leash. I give the trainers at this place an A+.

Not thrilled at all. The staff at this facility do not communicate effectively with customers nor apparently each other.
Miscommunication began on the phone, before I even brought my dog here for «playcare.» When the customer service manager, Carly, called to discuss my concerns, she continually blamed my family member for any miscommunication rather than apologizing for what happened.
Despite whatever care they claim to offer, the immense lack of communication skills in the staff will prevent me from bringing my dog here again for day boarding.

What a joke! Signed my puppy up for socialization class at the recommendation of my vet. Filled out the registration form completely and accurately online. I received absolutely no feedback after submitting so showed up for the first class only to be sent away. Completely disorganized company. This puppy class is obviously to get you in the door and sell you on the many classes they offer. I was interested in multiple classes they offer but will take my business elsewhere after the way I was treated.

I have a four months old puppy named Hunter. My co-​worker told me about the local bark and I immediately wanted to take my puppy there. I had to wait for him to finally get his last shot and Friday was his first day. Hunter is a pretty cautious dog so he did not like it when I left him there, but I knew he would be fine. When I picked him up he was very excited to see me, but I could tell he was very tired. My boyfriend and I were going out that night and we were so happy that he was a sleepy boy when we got home. We will defiantly be bringing him back to the local bark maybe once every two weeks or so.

We were so frustrated with some of the behaviors of our 8 yr old Cockapoo, especially taking him on a walk. So, my neighbor referred us to The Local Bark because they had gotten so much help from them for their golden retriever.
So, I took our dog to have him evaluated and then he spent 2 days at their location.
After that, we were told that they make house calls.
So, Jaclynn P came over.
It was great to have her come to our house to train Brett.
It is just over a week and Brett is doing great.
The kneeing of him has worked well. He no longer jumps up on my wife when she comes home.
He is great on walks. Very calm. Has had very limited reaction to other dogs on the walk. The pinch collar works great.
He is doing fairly well with the «Go on» command.
I/​we can’t tell you what a dramatic change there has been to Brett. We thought we would never be able to have a calm walk with him. The walks are so enjoyable.

It’s a great facility and they do an amazing job! The reason why I gave them 2 stars is because we’ve gotten our dog back from them multiple times with bad hot spots on his paws. We’ve brought him for daycare, which is fine, for just one day and the staff is very friendly and love the report cards. However, due to the concrete being the only thing in the back area our boy has come out limping and in pain.
If your dog is used to carpet and grass and dirt this may not be the place for you, only because of the concrete tearing up the pads. Sadly won’t be bringing him back!

Well, my gorgeous pup got SICKER than she’s ever been there. Unfortunate because we were REAL Excited about the place. It’s within blocks of my home. They get primarily Goldens and labs for day boarding and playtime /​socialization. Mine is a Giant black Schnauzer. Didn’t fit in. Was CHASED all day long, to the point of total EXHAUSTION. Almost died. She drank FILTHY portable pool water all day every chance she got. When I picked her up, she was soaking WET. I had to put her in my car all wet. Very unprofessional of Local Bark. And when I complained, they refused to accept any blame. My dog was sick with fever, beyond any exhaustion I’ve ever seen, could not eat and had diarrhea for SIX DAYS! Yikes, it was horrible. She’s never had any such issue since.

If I could give The Local Bark more stars, I really would! I originally started taking Daegan (a large German Shepherd) for all day play before his AKC Training class that is also offered by The Local Bark. The owner, Mark, gave me a personal tour before I left Daegan the first time, taking my mommy concerns seriously. The staff is completely wonderful, and always friendly and happy. Courtney always remembers us, and Daegan is happy to see her every time. His AKC trainer Amanda is really wonderful, and her classes have helped us with many behavior corrections.
Every time Daegan goes to all day play, he’s exhausted and happy. Leaving him here for boarding is about the only place I don’t feel guilty leaving, I know the staff spoil him rotten!
The Local Bark family is one I am truly happy to have Daegan be a part of!

We first started taking Barry to Local Bark as a puppy. He is well socialized because of the puppy classes and everyone always comments on how wonderful his demeanor is. He goes crazy when we are right out the door, because he knows he is in for some fun! We have since taken AKC STAR Puppy class and FUNdamental Obedience with Sydney. We JUST finished Tricks for Treats with Chris. Barry has an arsenal of cute tricks to show off to everyone now. Chris R. is a wonderful trainer who really «gets» his personality and motivations. She is patient and enthusiastic and Barry absolutely LOVES HER!
We’ve also taken Barry to playcare and overnight boarding. He loves it! There are photos on Facebook everyday and I enjoy seeing him his happy face. The staff loves Barry and Barry loves them. I wouldn’t trust just anyone with my little fur ball and the Local Bark is the best!

Okay, I will admit. We are the most overprotective doggie parents with the most high maintenance snotty dogs. AND WE ALL LOVE THIS PLACE.
Having moved to the area recently, we had to find a new doggy daycare, boarding facility that our dogs could attend. We started with Petsmart’s doggy boarding and day camp, but that didn’t work out. We then wanted to try this place out, but were put off with their fecal test that they required so we looking into other places. Lets just say we ended up back here for a reason.
Hindsight, its nice that they required that fecal test because it assures us they have our dogs health in mind. So after that was done and all the paperwork turned in our dogs started here (two 3 year old lab mixes). We take them to daycare about once a week and our dogs always come home worn out, but happy and content. We usually just do half day because we work from home, which is daycare for four hours or less, but they have great full day pricing and doggie package rates as well.
We also wanted them to come here because it is a one stop shop for grooming, training, day care, and boarding. They have great boarding facilities and our dogs are able to room together in one large room. They have everything you need so we only send our dogs off for boarding with just food and a couple of toys. They supply the beds, and have options for luxury bedding, and they have their own bowls they use.
As you probably are aware, dogs will tell you how they feel about places on how they act when you bring them back. Our dogs love coming here and are always excited when we ask them if they want to go to «Daycare.» The girls that work at the front desk remember your dog and call your dogs «kids» which of course warms our hearts.
They also do report cards depending on how long your dog stays with them, which tells you how they played, ate, their health, and who they interacted with.
I also love their indoor, outdoor options for the dogs so we know our dogs can be outside and play or they can stay warm inside as well.
I recommend this place OVER all of the other Folsom, Sacramento, and citrus heights dog day care and boarding facilities.

I took my dog to Folsom Vets & Pets Monday. What an awful experience for both myself and the dog! I got on the phone immediately yesterday morning & was referred to The Local Bark. What a difference! If you want a place that is well-​staffed, CLEAN, and extremely professional (as well as playtime all-​day), this is the place! They don’t charge for playtime, meds, no mandatory check-​out time, and they even do training. They are their from 5:30 AM until 8:30 PM (6 hours longer than where I had him). The Owner, Mark went far beyond what is required to get my boy in. He called my vet (and even the pet store to get the number for their mobile shot clinic) to get his information so I could get him in ASAP.
Very impressive set-​up. They are friendly to dogs and their humans, go over all the dogs information with you and label everything you bring in. My dog ran into the play yard, and never looked back. He isn’t going to want to go home! When I’m in town, this is where I will take him and you should too.

Located in Rancho Cordova the Local Bark is a training facility, doggie day care and boarding facility. My dog was enrolled in the boot camp and the owner stated this was the last training I would ever need. The training was three weeks. After the training my pet was much improved. Thinking I found a great place to board my dog, I learned more. First, undisclosed to the customer, the dogs are left alone from 9p to 5a. I became a little concerned, given I work nights and could have just left the dog at home. Should there be a fire, or health problem, no one would respond for hours.
Second, there is a serious lack of communication between staff members. Pick up/​drop off can often take 20+ minutes due to this, and several times we’ve had to drive back to pick up items they forgot to give back to us. 2 times since my dog completed the 3 week training there he has been in 2 scuffles with other dogs, and both times it was other dogs fighting and my dog tried to intervene. Both times these incidents were communicated to me as small isolated incidents by the front desk staff. Both times the owner called several days later saying the incident was much worse than communicated and insisted on us paying for additional training. After the the second scuffle which resulted in my dogs mouth bleeding all weekend long we were told we would have to pay an extra 35(!) a day. After spending an exorbitant amount of money on training and there only being two small incidents in 6 months this seems excessive. The staff here genuinely seem to love the dogs, and they post pics on Facebook which is great, but ultimately the lack of communication and insistent recommendation for additional training made us decide this wasn’t the place for us.

My dogs love going to the Local Bark, and have been doing so for the paat 5 years. The owners are great and the staff is always friendly and welcoming and give great service and its clean.
What I love most are their hours — 6:30 am to 6:30 pm Monday thru Friday which is terrific for my work schedule when I take my Boyz (a shepherd mix and an anatolian shepherd) for playcare during the day.
They offer full services at reasonable prices: playcare day and half day packages; boarding; grooming; and training.
The overnight boarding spaces are nice, especially because they have clear doors for all — no caged wires for the dogs to look through.
Playcare during the day allows my dogs to get totally tired. The have three or four separate «play» areas so they can keep dog packs separated by size and such, not including the indoor training room that you can see from the lobby. they have cots in the open areas along with some toys and in the summer they bring out the plastic pools.

I have a six month old french bulldog. I have never left him overnight before, and I was incredibly nervous. I toured several facilities and easily settled on local bark. I live in Davis, but the drive is absolutely worth it for me.
My dog is very playful and doesn’t quite understand boundaries with other dogs yet. On his play day before his stay, he got his eye poked by a dog’s nail. We went to the vet immediately after and he healed very well. Local bark handled it with extreme professionalism and grace, and because of that I decided Hudson would return for his stay a week later (if he had healed enough).
I picked him up today. I love that the staff knows all of the dogs, and because of how they acted previously I didn’t worry all weekend about leaving him (very unusual for me).
The prices are reasonable and I got back an exhausted dog who went right to sleep, which is nice for exhausted parents coming home from traveling!
I really recommend this place and won’t take my dog anywhere else. If your dog is your child, like mine is, you won’t regret leaving them here.

First off– these guys are open on weekdays for 12 hrs a day. Perfect for if you’ve got to work 8 – 10 hrs/​day. Very few places we have looked at do this. They’re also open for play on weekends– an extra bonus.
We have been going to these guys since we adopted our dog from the shelter 6 months ago– the doggie socialization is one of the biggest reasons why we come here. Being a pitmix, some doggie day cares do not cover pitbulls playing in a groups due to their insurance policy… and that defeats the point of getting dogs socialized with other dogs. Thanks, Local Bark for allowing my pitmix to play among the others dogs in the pack. Because of the socialization in a controlled environment, overall behavior and etiquette of our dog has greatly improved since we first got her.
Frey goes about once a week, and we will continue to bring her there. She’s a high energy gal, but the staff know how to deal with her and will correct if she gets too excited. She comes home tired, more responsive and much more receptive to training.

I looked everywhere for a trainer that we could purchase board and training for a couple weeks. I found it at Local Bark.
We have a 7 month old 4 lb. Yorkie, and You know how difficult the small breeds can be at training. Well, after 2 weeks, Kristen, the owner brought her to our home and gave us almost 4 hours of personal instruction on how to handle her. The dog is like a new dog. What a dream to have her around the house now. She sits, lays down and stays on command. She also heals when you walk her.
We still have to learn to be consistant with her and firm, or she will revert back to a brat she used to be. Kristen suggested we bring her back for a day of additional training and board. She will be able to play with the other dogs and socialize, and then we can bring her home and enjoy her more.
I highly recommend The Local Bark and am confident you will too. Just visit the first class facility they have and how the dogs are treated, and you will be convinced.

Ok. I’ll say it. We baby our greyhound Stella. She’s a retired racer and given the utter cruelty of the track life I figure she’s suffered enough. That’s why we rescued her. So, we never leave her by herself more than 4 hours at a time and we pamper her.
IMHO, TLB lives up to my definition of Stellacare. It’s stellar. They do daycare, boarding, training, and grooming. They have indoor and outdoor facilities and always have enough staff on hand to take care of business.
