Description

Specialties

Wine maker, Elaine Lyttleton specializes in medal winning estate grown Zinfandel & Petite Sirah wines, including a sumptuous Field Blend. Supplemented by locally grown dry white, blush and dessert wines the tasting room offers something for everyone.

Set in the Ramona Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA), guests enjoy serene views of the Valley, Mount Woodson and spectacular sunsets. The vineyard offers several picnic areas, and the barn, where the tasting room is located is inviting with museum quality antiques, cooled in the summer and heated by a huge fireplace in the winter.

Norm Case leads tours of the property, which includes a memorial to two Navy pilots killed on the property in 1961, Indian artifacts and a meditation Labyrinth. On special occasions he also displays the Civil War drum played by his great, great grandfather to start the Battle of Shiloh, and qualified guests are invited to play the 101 year old upright grand piano.

History

Established in 2006.

In 2006 the couple bought a 6 acre parcel with only 1 small house on it. Over the ensuing years they prepared 3 acres for the vineyard, doing all the work themselves with a lot of help from many friends who worked for food and wine! They survived the Witch Fire in 2007 with little incident, and proceded to plant 1,000 Zinfandel and 1,000 Petite Syrah vines.

While a building was being built to house the initial wine production, Elaine completed the Certificate Program in Wine Technology at Mira Costa College and began wine making in the tiny 1,120 sq. ft. house. Once bonded and licensed in 2012 they began producing in larger quantities and opened their unique tasting room on Friday 13th of June 2014.
