Business Owner

Simon Withers grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and started working in the automotive industry at the age of 19. He started off as an apprentice for a Porsche performance shop, where he gained valuable experience and exposure to Porsche performance upgrades and club racing. After 2 years he moved to BMW Group and started with their apprenticeship program. He was soon offered a job as a specialist in Abu Dhabi, UAE and moved. He quickly gained status as BMW Master Technician, moved up in the company and after a year was promoted to Workshop Manager. Managing the largest BMW — MINI — Rolls Royce shop in the world. Simon moved to the USA in 2012 and partnered up with a struggling local independent shop with the goal of turning the business around. Once these goals were achieved he decided that it was time to start his own shop, and Torque Automotive was born. Simon is making it his mission to raise the standards in the Auto Repair industry, while lowering prices.

I found Torque Automotive after an exhaustive search to find someone who would rebuild the high voltage battery pack on my Honda Insight (most will only replace with refurb pack). Simon did excellent work and saved me about half the cost of a replacement battery. He even provided a complementary car wash. I highly recommend.

Simon is passionate about cars and it shows in his attention to detail. I have had my Porsche to several places in the Raleigh area and he is the ONLY one who solved my performance lag problem, among other issues. Friendly service and good rates as well.

While we have used Simon on our family Bimmers (3, M3, Z4) a few times in the past, this is the first time that we have used him at his new site. As always, Simon and the crew did not disappoint.
We followed Simon from the previous shop when he opened Torque. The M3 had to go in for some work and Torque did the job for about 40% less than the dealership wanted for the same job. Simon got creative and found some solutions to the issue that saved us a lot of money.
In short, I trust Torque completely to give me a fair and reasonable estimate. We will always send our autos there for work. They work on a variety of German autos and this is the must-​go spot for anyone with an older vehicle.
The new place is a little hard to locate the first time, but actually quite accessible once you figure out where it is. Clean shop — nice and timely service. I highly recommend it.

I’ve been to Torque twice so far, once to have a cracked belt replaced in my BMW 3 Series and once to have a new coilover suspension installed in my Z3 M Roadster, and I could not be happier with the service. Simon was extremely honest in telling me what work did NOT need to be done, even though he could have got more money out of me by not saying anything. Simon is unusually communicative and articulate in explaining what’s going on with your car, and he was very accommodating in working with me to get the upgraded parts I wanted installed, rather than pushing me toward parts that would’ve been higher profit for the shop. The quality of the work was flawless; everything was done right the first time. The shop and waiting area are impeccably clean, with comfortable seating and complimentary WiFi and coffee. I’ll be going back!

I took my 2013 VW Jetta to the new Torque Automotive this week and was really impressed with the level of service I received. Simon really goes above and beyond to make the experience as pleasant as possible. He is very knowledgeable and personable. The new shop is spotless. The reception area and customer lounge were comfortable and first class. He mentioned that he is aiming to set new standards for the auto repair industry and this new shop really shows that! The services were performed as discussed and without any unnecessary «upselling». Prices were very reasonable too. Much cheaper than the dealer. Looks like Torque Automotive has a new customer for life!
