History

Established in 2008.

The PO is a locally owned and operated restaurant and bar established

in 2010, located in the Bent Tree Plaza on the corner of Falls of

Neuse and Strickland.

Our Freshly made food ranges from normal pub fare such as chicken

wings and homemade crack fire, and has some more unique Menu Items

such as Pork Belly Smack, Handcut Ribeyes, and Fresh Tuna seared to

your liking. We offer catering for Private Events and Parties.

We are More than a neighborhood restaurant and bar, we are extremely

Kid friendly and pet friendly, and have an outgoing staff that is

willing to help your every need. We also have a 1200 sq ft covered

patio, and we just updated our TVs and now have a total of 25 HD TVs

to watch all the games at any time. We do get the NFL, Hockey, and

Baseball Packages.

Hung out with some friends here on a karaōke night recently. While I unquestionably walked out wearing more beer than I consumed and without belting out a single tune (the list was friggin’ long, man), I did eat a surprisingly delectable order of tacos with refried beans, pico, and cotija cheese.

Stopped in for lunch. I ordered buffalo chicken dip. It was tasty but runny. A friend ordered the buffalo chicken salad after trying to order two other items that had been taken off the menu. The salad was very basic. I ordered the French onion soup and grilled cheese. The soup had a spice in it that I did not find added to the flavor at all. The grilled cheese was plain and very simple. I asked for Pepper Jack cheese and was served cheddar. From the outside I thought it would be a quaint place for lunch but when I walked inside it was a dark bar establishment. I am sure given the number of patrons and the noise level at the bar for lunch it has a lively bar crowd in the evening. Just not great for a quiet lunch for conversation.

What a surprise! The food was fabulous. I got the Pork Belly Smack. Best Mac and Cheese I’ve ever had out. The waiter/​bartender was so friendly. Nothing was rushed very relaxed.
Husband had fish and chips and was surprised at the size and it was good.
Never expected more then just bar food… but got much more. Will come back again.

Everything my friends or I have had for dinner here has been absolutely excellent! The Blackened Tuna, Caprese Chicken Salad, French Onion Soup, Buffalo Chicken Salad & oh god the Crack Fire! Get it!
Jeff was a wonderful server. He was attentive, friendly, and had very helpful suggestions! They’ve got great beer and cocktails too. I highly recommend the Pickled Onion for everything from a date to a night out with the family!

Met up with some friends for an impromptu Christmas party on Saturday night. Got seated really fast, drinks in hand and ordered appetizers for the table. Fried mac n cheese and blue cheese chips. Both were delish! Our server was on point and offered suggestions that were also yummy! It was my first time visiting but I’ll be back again, for sure. Try the fried Mac n cheese. Trust me.

Not impressed. I’ve been here a few times and it is not a friendly environment. Food is not great. Newcomers are not welcome. It is not the type of place I feel safe going. I only came here before because a friend worked here for a bit. I didn’t want to come here while he was working and now that he is going I certainly will not be back.

Food & Service here continue to make it a great place to escape from the outside world. Not to mention Wednesday Trivia hosted by a smart fun dude who makes it enjoyable in a not-​too-​intense-​overly-​serious way!
Most recent experience was a Wednesday one (drawn in by trivia). Luckily we had no problem getting a comfy booth, and the three of us had a fun time. Food-​wise, Husband had a Buffalo Chicken Salad (yes, Husband really ordered a salad!) AND he liked it very much! In a reverse fashion, I had a Philly Chicken Sandwich with my choice of broccoli for a side. YUM! Killer sandwich… very black-​peppery which I loved! Broccoli was not over-​cooked. Just right.
Later during Trivia a warm brownie with ice cream appeared! (Husband is known for his magic tricks) and it disappeared just as fast! (can’t imagine how that happened)
Service all night was very spot-​on by several folks. Apparently everyone takes care of everyone here. And that’s really nice!

We had an extended family night out with our kids and grandkids, so I’m sure not an easy situation for our waitress. I am sure we tested her, but the service was great. Food is much better than you find in most sports bars (bar food). Almost everyone in our group commented on how good the food was. It turned out to be a great choice for our get together.
For me, having decided to not eat meat anymore, I wish they had more meatless choices… salads, appetizers and entrees. This time I ordered the chopped Cobb salad without the meat, and it was very good.
Because everyone was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food, we will be back.

Been trying to find another local hangout due to the nastiness and bad service /​food at sawmill tap room. It fits the bill fine. It is true that due to the layout, it seems as soon as you walk in everyone checks you out, and you can certainly tell there are a group of regulars that may have a «hey this is my bar «attitude, but I guess I’ll try to be a regular rather than bust on them!
I think wings are just average (chows grilled wings are tops around here) fried Mac and cheese balls are great, burgers are great, nachos are great, never had a bad sandwich here, Chicago beef is really good.
So the food is real good if you can find a server that will take your order you will actually be able to eat.

This is a great local place
They have great local beer choices not just Bud Light and Yingling and prices are good also. The food is bar food but above average bar food and a lot less than the competition down the street.
We like going in the summer you can overflow onto the patio it can get a bit crowded in the inside

Great food and wonderful service. I have eaten here for over 5 years and have never had a bad meal. The wings are wonderful! Just order wings from somewhere else that were a complete joke. I kicked myself for not going to the Pickled Onion to get the Honey Habanero extra crispy. The beer selection is good and the games are always on… love this place!

Great beer prices. Most of the people in here seem like they’re regulars. The slot machines are weird, and some people seem they come just for those. The bar feels like a townie/​sports/​not-​quite-​dive bar, that probably acts like a dive bar. Wish they had more vegetarian/​vegan options but they’re willing to make their nachos vegetarian for me, so that works! Go on Mondays for Mystery beer!!!
One of the only places in Raleigh that puts real, melted cheese on their nachos, rather than cheese sauce!!! This is an important distinction! For this reason, I will be going back many times.

Seems as if the Onion gets a bit penalized because it’s a neighborhood bar… Yeah, they have regulars and those regulars prolly get a bit more attention than «Outsiders» but isn’t that the same as any neighborhood hangout? Seems to me the chow is a bit better than the normal bar fare and they generally have some kind of drink special going on. Nice, roomy patio with a couple of TVs and plenty more inside. No doubt it can probably get a lil rowdy late night but all in all I’ve always had a good time. Take it for what it is and not what it isn’t and you should have an enjoyable time.
