History

Established in 1989.

The Grounds Guys was founded in Caledon, Ontario, CA in 1989 by the 10 Van Stralen brothers under the name «Sunshine Grounds Care.» In 2010 Sunshine reached a groundbreaking agreement with The Dwyer Group®. A new company, The Grounds Guys, would be founded and grown within the U.S., taking advantage of the wealth of knowledge Sunshine had gained over the years.

Today, The Grounds Guys’ fast-​growing franchise network has begun to branch out across the U.S. Each location shares the same core values and passion for caring that The Grounds Guys brand is built upon. Having a national presence with local ownership brings the best of both worlds to Raleigh’s residents.

Meet the Business Owner

Matt K.

Business Owner

Matt has spent his professional career serving others. Matt graduated from the University of Vermont and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. For 12 years, Matt served our country and his fellow soldiers here in United States as well as overseas during a tour in Bosnia and two tours in Iraq.

In 2008, Matt decided to apply the leadership skills he gained in the military to the commercial construction industry and joined FMI’s Center for Strategic Leadership as a management consultant. Matt works with numerous organizations to build long-​term strategic vision and lasting foundations for strong leadership performance and depth of talent.

In 2012, Matt became President of The Grounds Guys of North Raleigh. Matt partnered with industry experts to drive the Grounds Guys forward on a plan to reshape the landscape industry. Leveraging superior customer service and technology, The Grounds Guys is fast becoming the premier landscape management company in the Triangle
