Specialties

St. Timothy’s is a private independent Episcopal school serving pre-kindergarten through grade 8. Small class size, excellent academics, competitive athletics, outstanding fine and performing arts, character education, after school care… these are just some of the quality programs that set St. Timothy’s apart.

History

Established in 1958.

Before there was a North Hills, there was a St. Timothy’s School. In 1958, when Six Forks Road was a two-lane country road, the vestry of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church authorized the creation of a school. Father George Hale, rector of St. Timothy’s, canvassed his Drewry Hills neighborhood with his wife, Carolyn. They recruited 16 five-year-olds for a kindergarten class, and St. Timothy’s School was born. With each passing year, additional classes and grades were added. Today the school is home to almost 500 students in Jr. Kindergarten through Grade 8.

In 1970, St. Timothy’s became the first non-public elementary school to be accredtied by the NC Department of Public Instruction. Two years later, it was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). In 2004, St. Timothy’s received the National Blue Ribbon School Award from the US Department of Education. In 2006, the school dedicated a new elementary/middle school and renovated kindergarten building.
