Passage Consignment Shoppe

Update to my review from ¼/​16: In an effort to see if I had any consignment funds coming to me I stopped by the location where Passage Consignment was up until 12÷31÷15. There is NO notation of where the business has moved and the building appears deserted. This is another indicator of a business that is NOT well-​run. I am disappointed by the dishonesty and shoddy business practices.

Honestly I wish that I could give this place no stars. I bought a piece of furniture and the owner offered to paint the piece for me and call me when it was finished. This was in JUNE. I of course paid upfront for the furniture and after a month of no call I called the store and asked about the piece of furniture and the person I was speaking to hung up on me. Since then I have never been able to get in touch with anyone every single time I call and it’s January. I still have no piece of furniture. Ridiculous.

Just got verbally insulted by an employee for asking for my payment, which I had been trying for over a month to get. I was finally paid, but they blamed me for refusing to leave until I received the money they owed me. They kept saying they didn’t have any checks and that they were waiting for the bank to issue them. A story I find ludicrous. Do not trust this business, sad, used to be a good place.

I can always count on Passage to add the unique touch of glamour to every outfit. The owner and her team have great taste, a welcoming attitude and I find quality pieces that I don’t find at the mall. Thanks ladies!

Big place, I didn’t consider this high end consignment but the clothes prices seemed fair, but agree with others that the furniture is way way over priced. Some things were ok and some were way too much. Good purse prices. I only found one pair of jeans which I would consider high end. Most r found at local retail shops and same price on sale for brand new. For higher end I would go to Figi’s Cameron village. But still glad I stopped in, and the workers were friendly.

I don’t understand the three star reviews. Passages is a fabulous consignment shop. I found a Ralph Lauren T-​shirt and a feminine Chicos jean vest for under $ 20 so how is that full price??? Emily the owner was running around searching for whatever we were looking for — in the end my sister bought a brand new Hooker Furniture dining set for 70% off retail. Most of the clothes were name brand — I think this is a shop where you will find something most of the time.

Closed. No sign on the door thanking all of the loyal customers for their business. No explanation. Nothing to be done with the gift certificates you’ve purchased for people, telling them what a great store it is. It is no more. Thanks for the great clothes.

The clothes are a great price, but trying to get a check from them for a large ticket item is close to impossible. Staff are less than friendly, and rules seem to be arbitrary. It seems very disorganized, and poorly run. No receipts are given for the clothes you hand over to them. I am finished using them– afraid they will go out of business and keep my money.

What a disappointment… No real deals here. I was a regular customer and consigner here about two years ago and haven’t been in a while since I don’t work in that area anymore. Well we planned a special trip to go to «our favorite» consignment shop and boy things have changed. We were surprised that all items were full price. They have a color ticket system that tells you the discount percent. After looking around and found some nice items we noticed that there weren’t any items, besides the one rack of men’s clothing for 75%. Then we searched for the bigger discount ticket colors and could only find three items marked at the 25% discount. We even found items that we’ve seen in the new stores, marked at the same price. Example a pair of jeans from JC Penney’s new, JC Penny brand were $ 2.00 cheaper, not a bad price if they were new, but it’s used. A platter from Pier One that had a tear was marked $ 3.00 cheaper than at Pier One and no discount for the tear. .
I can say the staff was nice, even when I stated my disappointment. There was no one on the floor assisting, but that’s usually the case in consignments. The quality of clothing is great, not much in children’s or maternity either, but no real deals will be found here. I believe it’s gone through an ownership change and that might be the reason for the change.

Was surprised by some of the reviews! Then I realized that many were from 2011. Emily assumed ownership in 2012 and she and her staff do an excellent job selecting products and displaying them in a way that looks appealing. I have purchased a number of Chico’s items here (and have consigned many of them too).

I do not recommend consigning here. I bring things in to sell and hardly ever get any money for them. When I ask about what has sold and what is on floor they just stare at computer and seem confused. I have continued to take things in only because it is close to where I live and you don’t have to have a appointment. From now on though, I will either consign at one of the nicer places that have open in Raleigh, or take my things to my charity of choice.

What a great hidden gem in Raleigh! Great sales & prices on designer clothing! Nice & helpful staff, and organized clothes.

If you have not shopped or consigned recently with Passage you should definitely put this on your list. The new owner is doing a great job with the entire store. High end home décor and furniture, and I always find some great clothes. Recently started consigning and have been very pleased with the money I have made. The sales keeps the items moving in and out of the store.

Maternity section? Think again.
I stopped by Passage on my quest for inexpensive maternity items. Their website advertises that they carry maternity clothing. They even had a maternity section on the rack. However, I would not consider 5 raggedy items on hangers worthy of claiming a maternity section.
Next store, please.

I had shopped as Passages for several months before I consigned any items with them. If you are considering consigning items, I would recommend that you find another consignor. Here’s why:
When I left items for consignment, I had a list of the items and descriptions of each item. Passages made no such list. I assumed that they would make their list later in the day since all of the items were stacked together on a loading dock by the owner of Passages. After leaving items for consignment, I continued to shop at Passages, accompanied by friends. I had been told that my items would be placed on the floor immediately. When I never saw my items, I assumed they had sold. When I called in to check on the balance in my account, I was told that my name had become «disassociated» from the items, and that they were glad to hear from me so that they could get records straight and get my items on the floor. In repeated visits, I still never saw my items on the floor.
When I called again to ask about the balance in my account, I was told that some items had been on the floor so long that they had been donated to charity during the time that they had been «disassociated» from my name. I protested that I had visited the store regularly, and had NEVER seen my items on the floor, so it didn’t make sense that they had been on the floor too long. Further, I had witnesses to the fact that we had been watching for the items to show up on the floor. Therefore, persons other than me, had seen that my items had not been put on the floor long enough to have been considered for charitable donation. The person at Passages who told me about the charitable donation told me that he would provide me the receipt from the charity so that I could take a tax deduction for the contribution at year end. However, he couldn’t then tell me the name of charity to which items had been donated. So then, the story changed, and I was told that since they (Passages) had made the mistake, they would compensate me for the items which had been «disassociated» from my name and had then never appeared on the floor, but which had been on the floor so long as to have been donated to charity. I hope that is confusing to you, because it was confusing to me, too, and I don’t know what they did with my items, but I don’t think they were telling me the truth.
If Passages’ business methods are inadvertent, they need to get their act together fast, because you can find numerous examples of consignees who are telling the same story.
In summary, I will not be consigning with Passages ever again. It took only one experience to let me know they are not trustworthy. Further, I will not purchase from them again, because I think there is reason to believe that they are continuing to treat other consignees unfairly. Therefore, if I were to shop with Passages, it would be very akin to purchasing good that may have been unjustly taken from other, and having the knowledge that that’s what you were doing. I won’t do that or support a business that does — whether by virtue of their intent or just poor business practices.

I consistently find nice stuff here. I enjoy doing the consignment thing. Nice mens stuff.
Pretty strict about rules for selling your stuff but I guess that’s how they maintain quality.
I do wish someone would buy my shoes though.
