Modern Enhancement Salon Day Spa

This review is for nail services only. There are two things I hate. Negativity and wasting money. I HATE writing a negative review, but I also hate wasting money and I threw $ 60 down the toilet last night on the only bad pedicure I’ve ever had.
Have had two experiences here. One that was okay enough for me to book a second. (which is also why this is two stars vs. one). The first time I arrived, was greeted with water with grapes in it, had a super pleasant experience with a happy gal. I had booked their $ 35 basic pedicure and had a neutral color put on that you could barely see, so if the polish wasn’t the greatest, it also wasn’t too obvious. She convinced me to take advantage of their book your next appointment for a $ 5 off deal and that the more expensive $ 55 was so awesome. So I booked it for six weeks out with the same gal.
Fast forward to this experience. Walked in and was greeted by the gal who did my first pedicure. Have you been here before? Uh, yes. Another sweet gal asked if I’d like something to drink and I joked about wine. Sure! White or Red. Uh, score… bring on the red please! She managed to scrounge up a quarter glass of the «last of the red», which was nice.(not great, but nice, appreciated and another reason this is two stars vs one) She got me started with soaking in their nice hot tub with the jets and settled into one of their two massage chairs.
After a few minutes a different gal who I had never seen before started the pedicure without introducing herself or explaining why the one who I had an appointment with wasn’t doing it. So I asked. Oh, she’s on the front desk today. This gal had just come from doing hair and I was her «last of the day». While I have no complaints about her personality, based on the way my toes look I do have to question her experience level with pedicures, and very much question the quality level of the polish they are using. It is AWFUL. I don’t even know if the staff can be blamed at all. Maybe no one could make this look good. But I will also say that I had a broken nail when I came in and no attempt was made to fix it. In the past when I’ve had that happen, I’ve had other places do their best to do so.
I will say that if you do go here for a pedicure, get only the basic one, as I can’t tell you what the difference was in the expensive one vs. the less expensive one.
Sadly my only option is to remove the hideous polish and move on and try to stop kicking myself for wasting $ 60 (fifty plus tip… yes I still tipped because I don’t blame the hard-​working gal for what is probably the wrong circumstance for her).

I was very disappointed in their customer service. I purchased a product from them at the Southern Women’s Show. I even indicated that I had sensitive skin and while the product didn’t bother me immediately there at the show, after a few days it started to. When I reached out to the spa (I will admit it was about a month later but I had tried to contact the representative who contacted me from the show two times during that period) I was treated quite rudely. I was told that they didn’t take returns from products that had been opened. When I inquired how I could have known the product would bother me until I used it and that I had explained to them at the show that I had sensitive skin I was told that well they would just have to see. Now I have been to several spas in the area. I have purchased products from them as well as from department stores. And the way to treat a customer in this type of situation is to offer to work something out to make them happy. I didn’t demand a refund. I thought that maybe I could be given credit towards something else or towards a service. I just wasn’t going to let $ 70 go down the drain for a product when I was told at the show that I would be taken care of if it didn’t work out for me. When I had time to get to the spa (I work 50+ hours a week doing accounting and have 7 children) I was not treated as a customer that they were trying to make happy and work things out for. I was given the cold stare as the woman counted the packets left in the box (I had used 4 of the 60 I believe) then left to wait as they figured out how much refund to me since I had used 4 of them. I was there over 20 minutes while they tried to do this. I have NEVER had a place pro-​rate a refund for a product that was returned. Can you imagine going to the Lancome counter and telling them that a mascara irritated your eyes and you wanted a refund and them telling you that they could only give you 90% of what you paid because you used it? I think NOT. In fact even if they couldn’t give a refund I don’t know of a single place that would not give you 100% credit towards something else. I guess they just don’t want my business. I will continue to go to Subtle Enhancements and Synergy where they know how to keep their clients happy and coming back.

I have baby-​fine naturally curly hair, and not every stylist can handle it. I have found that Dustin is great with my hair! I have not left once and been unhappy with the professionalism, service and cut he has provided. I also have my hair highlighted by Dustin and am very pleased. Not only does Modern Enhancement offer cust/​styles, they have a beautiful Spa offering everything you can imagine. And. .. if you are interested in «hair extensions» that look «NATURAL», you need to talk with the owner, Tonya. She will fix you right up!

The decoration is modern and fancy. The service was good. Staff are nice! They serve you wine/​coffee/​tea and some crackers. It is, however, a bit expensive, if I didn’t have the deal via Groupon, I may not have gone there.
We had a hot stone massage (I can’t remember what is it exactly called), it was alright, but don’t count on it as a deep tissue massage!
The staff even paint our toenails for us, although not a very good job, but not bad!

Great salon and great aestheticians.

Don’t let the outside of the building fool you! The impressive interior of the spa area is beautiful and cozy. The salon area is nice too. I highly suggest this place for relaxing! Too bad they’re closed on Monday’s though.

I went in today for a haircut and style with full color with the lovely Morgan through a Groupon offer. Definitely an amazing place to go to if you want to feel pampered and relaxed! Morgan gave me beautiful red-​violet hair and was thorough when she explained during my consultation what we could and could not do. She pulled out her color book and made sure the color was what I wanted. The receptionists were very nice and you are offered a lovely grape infused water as soon as you walk in. Super chic place and very memorable. I will definitely be coming back for their other services such as their awesome body treatments!

I stopped in last month on a Tues/​Wed for a last minute and much needed mani/​pedi before heading out of town for Memorial Day weekend. The staff was amazing and super friendly. I received the chocolate mani/​pedi — a chocolate lovers dream!
The décor and overall layout is super adorable. From the outside, you’d have no clue that it seems so posh inside.
The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars and not 5 is because my manicure was busted in less than 30hrs. I don’t know if it was the technique used, the nail polish itself or what… but it bubbled and was peeling before Friday came.
Aside from that it was an excellent experience. I look forward to going back to try out other spa treatments in the future.

I’ve went to get a few massages done here and I really enjoyed it every time I come. The atmosphere is really nice and it made me feel really relaxed. I love the facility. However, every time I called in to schedule a massage there was never anyone available at my time. I called several times and nothing was fitting. It always a new person each time.

Needed to have my color corrected as a stylist elsewhere did an awful job on the color, Edward to the rescue. He thoughtfully selected the correct color that would go with my coloring. I came out of the spa a very happy woman with beautifully colored hair. Thank you to Modern Enhancement for fitting me in as a same day appointment and to Edward for doing a great job coloring my hair. I will certainly return.

BEWARE: TONYA Only for hair extensions!
Used this salon for eyelash extensions (Sarah the eyelash extension expert is very good) and twice for hair extensions. The atmosphere is welcoming, your greeted with a glass of fruit water upon arrival, everyone is nice. My first set of Hair Dreams extension was done by Tonya and the extensions were placed extremely close to my scalp and lasted almost 7 months! They were FABULOUS and my hair looked AMAZING!
Why I only gave the salon 3 stars:
A few years later for my wedding I decided to get more Hair Dream hair extensions, upon arrival I was told that Tonya was unavailable but someone else would do the extensions… I was apprehensive, but assured that the other person was excellent. The stylist assigned to me was very sweet, but I left with extensions far from my scalp, and not placed well… they needed to come out after three months… BARELY lasted to my wedding day. After spending so much $$$$, HUGE disappointment.
I came in right before my wedding to have Tonya reattach a some of the MANY extensions that had fallen out too soon. When I expressed my disappointment that the extensions were poorly placed she confirmed my opinion as correct and said it makes a difference when the installer wears the same extensions herself… of course, that was of little consolation after spending considerable cash and my wedding being right around the corner!!!
BOTTOM LINE, if you get extension services here, I would HIGHLY recommend refusing any other extension specialist but Tonya (the salon owner). If your pricey extensions are poorly done, you will not receive a redo or any compensation… though I have only tried one other specialist at the salon, I personally would not want to take any chances with this super pricey service!!!

I absolutely love going to this spa! Boutique, friendly, relaxing– such a treat! The staff is fabulous. 5*****

I have to admit that I have not used the spa portion of this salon so I can’t comment on any of that except the price which seems a bit high to me. But if it is as good as previous reviewers seem to think, then it may be worth the prices. The salon is very cute and they have a nice selection of product. The best part is you are not pressured to purchase! Nothing worse than a salon/​stylist showing you product you MUST have.
When we moved to the area last Summer I was at a loss for a new salon. I had finally found a place in Atlanta that got me and my hair and was also not overpriced. So it was with true sadness that I had to find another place. I scoured Unilocal and Citysearch and any other place that I could looking for decent reviews. This place was near our rental home and so finally I decided to take the plunge. My ends were begging me to do something, anything and so I went in with some trepidation.
I walked in about an hour before closing and asked if someone could wash and blow dry my hair. I mentioned that I needed a trim but if they couldn’t fit that in, it was okay. The receptionist was very pleasant and did not hesitate to see who was available and if they could do both a trim and a blowout. They could and so I was introduced to Dustin.
I appreciate a stylist that does not see my 2 day old curly hair and immediately run the other way… because it can be very intimidating. Especially when I pull it from it’s bun and you get a real feel for the thickness. Dustin did neither and we discussed what I was looking for. I told him that because I am a curly gal, I have been getting my hair cut dry. It makes a HUGE difference and makes me much more comfortable to have it done that way. He immediately dismissed that option. I should have pushed it but I didn’t. I am not sure why he didn’t want to cut it dry, as with my hair it is actually quicker to do it that way.
The wash was pretty good. Good pressure, comfortable chairs, comfortable water temperature. They really have a cute setup in place and the employees seem to be enjoying what they do and where they do it.
My cut was fine and my blowout was fantastic. It was good enough that I came for a second time about 8 weeks later for another trim (which still wasn’t done dry) and added gloss to my hair. I am not sure if I had the wrong idea about gloss or maybe the wrong term because my hair came out a lot redder. My previous salon did a gloss or glaze and my hair was always darker and very shiny. So this time wasn’t quite what I was looking for but I looked pretty fly so again, I didn’t say a word.
I think this place is very cute and almost boutique like and probably just what the area needs. I also think if you have normal straight to wavy hair you will do just fine. I didn’t feel like my stylist was super knowledgeable in curly hair techniques. But he was pleasant and worked efficiently. The resident dog (that the owner rescued) is super friendly and adorable.
One of these days I will go back and use the spa portion of the place and update my review accordingly.

Hands down the best salon and spa in the Triangle. The main reasons this place is the best include the staff, the ambiance and the treatment variety/​treatment price.
The staff are courteous from the second they pick up the phone. You hear a voice when you call them, not an answering machine or computer. The ladies who I spoke to were so peppy and excited, you could just tell that they loved their job and where they worked. They put me at ease and were accommodating to my schedule and what I wanted. Once I got there, they brought me cucumber water with grapes speared on a bamboo toothpick to sip on while I filed out some brief paperwork. Throughout all my treatments the staff was fun to talk to, understanding to my needs and you could obviously tell they loved their job and believed in what they did (facials, pedicures etc), which made it easier for me to relax and enjoy my stay.
The spa itself can be described in one word… soothing. The lighting, the music, the snacks, even the soft robes all combined into the perfect concoction of rest and relaxation. If I had known it was going to be so relaxing, I would have booked more treatments so I could stay longer. I will definitely be coming back to spoil myself more.
Modern Enhancement has an amazing list of treatments for every desired form of relaxation. I had the chocolate pedicure and microdermabrasion facial, pure heaven! The prices were beyond reasonable, especially considering that the steam room, showers, robes, slippers, relaxation room snacks and wine are all included for your enjoyment while at the spa.
I had an amazing time here and don’t have one negative thing to say about this spa and salon. Everything was perfect and I can’t wait to go back to get spoiled again!

I went to Modern Enhancement for options in dealing with thinning hair. Hairdreams extensions were recommended for me. Here are my thoughts on the overall experience (keep in mind this is regarding extensions only, no other service):
Pros: very specific & accurate estimate on pricing, fast application of the extensions and detailed post-​application care instructions
Cons: The extension applicaiton and maintenance appointments are not very accomodating to a working professional’s schedule. I could never get an appointment after 2 PM and appointments were not available at all on Saturdays. Taking off a half day once a month for my hair wasn’t very professional, so I had to find another salon.
There is a bit of an assembly-​line approach with the extensions. They are put on by Tonya, a haircut is done by another stylist and yet another stylist handles the maintenance. I don’t like being passed around quite that much, but that is personal preference.

I had extensions and «seams», I was under the impression they were the same brand (Hairdreams), so I was surprised that the seams were so different from the extensions & required more attention & styling. A consultation at another salon revealed the seams were a different, slightly lesser quality brand. That explained why they didn’t behave the same as the extensions. I would have paid more for Hairdreams seams that matched the extensions had I been aware of this, but wasn’t given that information or that option.
I have thinning at the crown of my head and explained that was my main concern when I went in for the consultation at Modern Enhancements. Extensions and seams were recommended and attached around the sides and near the base of my head. They look great… but I still have a visibly thinning crown which was not addressed. (When I went back the following month for my seam maintenance, Tonya at first tried to reattach them at my crown even though they had originally been on the sides of my head. There wasn’t enough hair at the crown to accomodate this and she seemed a bit hesitant so I think it was realized in my follow up visit that I hadn’t gotten the right product, although nothing was said.) Another salon suggested microlines from hairdreams at the crown of my head, with fewer extensions on the sides and base and that is more in line with my needs. It disguises the thinning while adding length and some volume.
The replacement salon I found (Garnish in Raleigh) has a former Hairdreams instructor who handles their extension business (Candace) and she handles application, maintenance, color and cut… she does everything herself from beginning to end. I felt I got more personal attention from her and a more accurate fix for my issues.
That is not to say Modern Enhancement is a bad salon. It just didn’t fully fit my needs and preferences. It is a good salon for extensions if you don’t mind the assembly-​line style, have a flexible employment schedule to work around and know enough about extensions before you get there to already know what the best solution is for you.

My hairdresser is Amy, Love her! I have had extensions done by Tanya and Loved them, just to much up-​keep for me. Have had a spa massage & Hydro bath with Sarah. The place is so relaxing and beautiful

I love it here! They offer a full range of services, with experience you can’t get elsewhere. If you’re interested in eyelash extensions, go see Sarah K. She’s amazing, and has been doing this for years. You won’t even need mascara afterward! Hair extensions, no one but Tonya. She can make your hair longer or just fuller. Everything done here is done professionally and with great experience. I’m hooked. They take amazing care of you, and provide the best of everything salon and spa.

Had a Groupon to use for a cut and color. Really did a great job with the highlights and cut. Highlights still are looking great a few weeks later. The stylist really listened to exactly what I wanted. I liked that they didn’t pressure you to buy extra hair products as you’re checking out. Really great atmosphere and relaxing.

It is WAY more expensive than what I would like to pay (almost $ 200 for highlights and cut), but they do a good job. I got a Groupon there and got hooked since I was looking for a reliable hair salon. I’ve only used their hair services, not spa (they do mani/​pedi/​massage/​waxing/​not sure what else). It is really clean, the people are professional, and people walk out looking and feeling good. It’s not a bunch of gabby ditzy stylists, they concentrate on you and your hair. They use Bumble & Bumble products, as well as Kerastase.

Modern Enhancement is unlike any other salon & spa I’ve visited in the Raleigh area; very hip yet revitalizing. It’s the perfect place to relax and/​or overindulge with your girls. I LOVE the fact that I can jumpstart the evening with cocktails & a pedicure!
I can’t say enough about the staff and the level of service I receive every time I visit their location. Next time you’re planning a day of excess, I highly recommend ME.
