Humble Pie

Great food. A little difficult (and expensive) to treat this place as you would a traditional tapas restaurant. Portions are really designed for 1 – 2 people.

A little expensive for the very small portion sizes. We ordered 3 plates for 2 people and left the restaurant still hungry. Probably a better spot to go for a light meal or just simply appetizers and drinks. Fried chicken was great also $ 2 PBR.

I’m from the DC area where any type of international cuisine is available day or night. Although I now love NC, I admit my frustration continues to revolve around the lack of excellent restaurants and how early establishments tend to close. I’m a Humble Pie fan!!! This might be the best food I’ve had in Raleigh, and the restaurant stays open past 9pm!
The sea scallops with cauliflower purée, pesto, fried capers, and toasted hazelnuts are out-​of-​this-​world delicious. I wanted to lick the plate clean.
The NC shrimp and grits with the «broth of Gods» just might be accurate. The dish is heavenly. Although most dishes like this tend to be heavy, this one tasted fresh without a denseness I’m struggling to describe.
The short rib tostadas with chipotle creamed corn, cilantro, and lime is a delicious dish. It has a spicy kick, so don’t lick your lips (even though you’re going to want to)!
All three of the dishes mentioned above are gluten-​free.
This place appears rustic, but the cuisine is top-​notch with a gourmet flair.
This was the perfect ending to a Raleigh First Friday evening.

My overall impression– solidly mediocre. Came here with a larger group after an event. It was dinner time, so I was hoping to get dinner. I’m okay with tapas style dining, but it was a bit awkward as the menu is all labeled «shared plates» while some things can definitely be shared (5 pieces of fried chicken– smaller, but still 5 pieces) whereas others not– okay… Well, if I get 2 sliders I’m not going to share one. However, the sliders were pretty good all said– but two pieces of pork belly on 2 Hawaiian rolls was a bit skimpy for the price tag, IMO. Price range seemed a bit more expensive than the place closest to them that I’m familiar with, The Pit. And of course I HATE parking in this section of the city, but that isn’t reflected in the rating, simply an observation.

Great atmosphere, excellent service, and the food was delicious! We will definitely be back!

What not to say about this place?
It’s easily my favorite restaurant overall in Raleigh, as well as its surrounding areas. The food is amazing, the Chef and owners are truly passionate and dedicated to their craft, and it translates well into not only the food, but to the entire dining room itself. The service is always wonderful and if you leave unhappy for whatever reason, it’s probably your fault, not anyone else’s. Go in, grab a drink and share some amazing food, don’t be afraid to try anything new because odds are that you’ll love it.

You know you’re in for a treat when Rose L. invites you to dinner. Having only tried them for brunch I was excited to see what they had going on for dinner. Hands down my favorite dish of the night was the oysters. It was an interesting take on an old favorite with the smoked pork and rosemary. I little pricey at $ 3 per but if you’re an oyster fan you should try a couple. The Buttermilk fried chicken was a close second as it was a great combination of sweet and slightly spicy. I thoroughly enjoyed the Avocado on toast but I’m a sucker for horseradish. Sea scallops were cooked well but the sauce fell flat and the short rib tostadas were pretty solid with its roasted corn sauce. Everyone at the table seemed to enjoy the ricotta gnocchi but the cauliflower mac and cheese not so much. At this point I would choose them for dinner over brunch but as with most small plate places things can get pricey if you plan on stuffing yourself. All and all a great place for a group to enjoy small plates and I’m so glad I was included in the outing.

This. Place. Is. So. Good. Definitely a fun date night! They were able to squeeze us in on a really busy night which was nice and our server was so fun! :) Definitely cannot go wrong here! Some of the highlights of our meal (and there were only 2 of us… judge away!): the Castelvetrano olives, crispy Brussels sprouts, broiled Tetilla cheese, gnocchi, roasted beets, and the ceviche. yum!

After being snowed in for two days, my boyfriend and I were desperate to get out and eat something other than ham and cheese sandwiches and girl scout cookies at home. So, we ventured out to humble pie on sunday and lucky for us they were open and serving their delicious brunch to the desperate masses.
We came and were seated promptly and this place got packed quick. Even though every table was full, the service was still quick. We put our orders in, I got my bellini, and the food came soon after. I ended up getting the biscuits and gravy because I was wanting something hot and homey and boy did this hit the spot. Boyfriend got the special, which was air dried sausage and an egg over grits. The plating for that one wasn’t spectacular (as you can see in my photo) but those grits underneath the egg were the tastiest i’ve had in a long time. The bellini was nice and they don’t skimp on the champagne so +1 for that too!
Overall I’m giving this place a solid 5. The casual, fun atmosphere (almost hipster-​esque) coupled with the great food and service makes humble pie a great local spot to hit up on the weekend.

I just realized the other day that this is the place I’ve taken every guest that I’ve had visit me in Raleigh. There’s a good reason; Humble Pie puts out fantastic quality food with amazing consistency.
The plates here are for sharing. With a party of four I’ve generally found that ordering 4 – 5 plates makes for a good meal for everyone. I’ve ordered as many as 8, but we kind of went overboard that night… I regret nothing.
The dishes are unique and creative. I never would have thought I would order avocado and peas on toast in a restaurant, but weird dishes like this have turned into some of my favorites here.
I’ve been for brunch once, it was great as well.

My boyfriend and I came here for drinks and tapas on a weeknight a few weeks ago. We were seated outside which was covered with ample ceiling fans and loving white Christmas lights decorating the joint. It was such a nice atmosphere to have dinner. We had about 5 small plates that we shared and all were pretty good. I will say that I thought the gnocchi was a bit bland, however my boyfriend thought it was delicious. The roasted brussel sprouts were to die for.
I liked this place a lot, but didn’t love it. I would come back to try more of their menu offerings in the future.

Awesome atmosphere and sweet layout. It is located in the warehouse district so it is spacious with plenty of seating inside and a really cool outdoor patio and tiki bar.
I came here for brunch. I believe they serve tapas for dinner, but with the brunch menu it is a one plate meal of standard proportion. I got the breakfast burrito. I liked that they put the sour cream and avocado salsa on the side so I was able to use as much or little as I wanted, but the food itself was not that special. It was egg, bacon, and cheese wrapped in a tortilla (something I could surely make at home). However, I will note, that they did use some very good thick-​cut bacon and packed a lot of egg into that burrito.
The service was good; no complaints. The atmosphere stood out the most for me. The food took a back seat which is unfortunate, and the price seemed expensive for breakfast food. For brunch I would give them 3 stars but I may need to re-​evaluate the rating after I come back for dinner and drinks. I have heard good things about those.

Ehhh… I’ve had better.
The acoustics were terrible. There was a screaming child, whose family did minimal to shut him up. He was well over the age where it’s acceptable for a child to be throwing a temper tantrum in a restaurant. He was four or so, and if it were me, I would have been smacked at that age, and escorted out of the restaurant by my mother. I’m a little surprised the managers didn’t step up and say something. If that weren’t bad enough, the servers noisily were scooting chairs across the floor to make room for a party, which made this terribly loud screeching-​fingernails on blackboard sound.
We would have moved outside, but it was simply too hot.
I don’t enjoy the ambiance because of this noise, and because of the paper Chinese lanterns. To me, this décor cheapens the entire look of the venue. And it has potential to be so lovely inside. The space is gorgeous, but not very tastefully decorated.
Service was pretty good. Our server was sweet. If she didn’t have the answer, she went to find out for us.
The food was ok. I liked the cheese dish with the grapes and fried crispy things. I liked the brussels sprouts. I liked the olive oil cake. Everything else left a decent impression, but nothing was a stand-​out.
One more thing that bothered me heavily: the sangria! When I imagine sangria, I imagine a drink full of fresh fruit that soaks up the flavor and the alcohol, and is a delight to eat as you drink your sangria. Nary a piece of fruit to be found, except for a sole maraschino cherry on top. Sad little cherry. Sad little Laurie.

I returned to Humble Pie for my birthday the other weekend with a reservation for fifteen people on the patio and couldn’t have been happier. First off, the set-​up for the party was flawless. We worked with one of the staff to make a reservation and they were incredibly accommodating to my request for fifteen people on the patio (although they usually max out tables outside at twelve). Humble Pie was a perfect spot for a group, with tons of drink choices (beer, cocktails and wine) and a solid variety of small plates for sharing.
I was very impressed with the way the staff managed the group, the food was brought out in rounds, still hot even with our huge group! Plus, the food was fabulous, I didn’t try a dish I wouldn’t order again. We started with the crispy brussel sprouts followed by the buttermilk fried chicken and the ricotta gnocchi. Everything was superb and full of flavor. The dishes were all unique and wonderful on their own, although I think the buttermilk fried chicken was my favorite, so crispy yet melt in your mouth tender on the inside. I would 100% recommend Humble Pie for a large group, it was the perfect spot and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I love that it’s located on a side street in the Depot too, it brings in only the true foodies and allows a less crowded «downtown Raleigh» experience. If you’re planning a date night there, I’d recommend Tuesday night for ½ price bottles of wine or Thursday night for $ 6 margaritas! Thanks again Humble Pie for making my birthday evening fantastic!

This is an absolute little gem of a place for Sunday brunch.
My husband and I were looking for an excuse to spend a weekend in Raleigh so we decided on going to Cuegrass which takes place in the street right in front of The Pit. This place is right around the corner.
We walked up and there is a huge gorgeous deck that we did not get to sit on as the place was already packed when we got there. (The place opens at 11:30 am on Sunday and we got there about 12:15.) There was what turned out to be a very short wait for a table. In fact, it was just long enough to get a mimosa at the bar.
We were seated at a cute two top booth, sitting next to each other, and facing the dining room. It was cool to seat and watch the rest of the room. They brought over two biscuits and jelly while we looked at the menu.
DH ordered the Huevos Rancheros which were served in a bowl with chips. He thought it was delicious and I did too! I had the Smoked Andouille Sausage which is described as being — sauteed red peppers + onions, goat cheese polenta, fried egg. Well! !st — the potatoes come in their own skillet and are big enough to share, soo freakin’ good. The sausage and grits were covered with a big sunny-​side-​up egg. People — I ate almost all of it.
We are already trying to figure out when we’ll get back to Raleigh for this amazing brunch!

Tried a bunch of dishes:
Avocado: not what I was expecting, was ok. Came w buckwheat popcorn (?) pomegranate. It was like guacamole dip.
Pork belly: good! How can pork belly be bad. Came w Hawaiian roll.
Short rib tostadas: good, loved the corn sauce it came with! Made it super unique
Scallops: good! Liked the cauliflower purée and pesto sauce
Goat cheese spinach tart: super good!!! The crust was soooo crispy and delicious and went so well with the creamy goat cheese
Ricotta gnocchi: I’ve had way better (FIG in charleston! Soooooo good) this one was definitely not as light and pillowy, more dense. Liked the wine sauce and mushrooms though

Humble Pie is underrated and truly a perfect date spot nestled in the Warehouse District. I had been once before for brunch, but returning this evening with three girlfriends and had a wonderful meal.
I love the décor. It is casual yet Southern and intimate — the stringed lights are a nice touch. If it’s a nice night I definitely suggest sitting outside.
We started the evening at the bar before dinner, and our experience there is the only reason Humble Pie gets 4 instead of 5 stars. Stay away from the sangria — it’s overly sweet and doesn’t have any fruit pieces in it. Also, the bartender somehow managed to be scatterbrained and rude/​snappy at the same time. She took awhile to cash us out and when we said we would just transfer it to our table, she practically yelled at us that no, she had already cashed out checks and we couldn’t. (At the end based on our total I think they may have ended up charging us again at the table.)
Besides that, the food was OUTSTANDING. I will literally dream about the scallop dish and the avocado dish. The sauces! Oh my god. The Brussels sprouts were perfectly crisp. I would also recommend the gnocchi or the short rib tostadas. The pork belly slider were good on the inside, but I wish they had been served on a more traditional bun associated with pork belly — it was on a mini hamburger bun.
I definitely plan on returning and sitting outside for a good date night or dinner with friends!

Had the Huevos Rancheros and it was great! Absolutely recommend Humble Pie and the HR for everyone!
To the details: Was a great place with great staff. I had probably walked by it 100 times before and had no idea it was there. It’s right by The Pit BBQ and Tasty Beverage Co. They do have their own parking though it’s also not obvious and we ended up parking on the street. The dining room is pretty large. We came for Sunday brunch and it filled up quickly.
Before they brought out meal they brought out biscuits. They were good but not incredible. The waiter helped us with some of his recommendations. In addition to the Huevos I tried my wife’s breakfast burrito and both were really good. We ended up splitting both with each other!
I hope to come back soon to try their other menus!

We came in for the first time on Sunday for brunch. I sent an email for a reservation for 11am and heard back right away that there was room for my husband and I. Awesome! We arrived on time and were seated immediately.
First, we received two biscuits, butter and a selection of different jams. The biscuits were good, but both my husband and I agreed they’d be better warm. Our waiter arrived quickly and we ordered 2 cups of coffee.
We spent time looking over the menu and I settled on the breakfast burrito while my husband ordered the huevos rancheros. My husband’s meal arrived first and it took several minutes for mine to arrive, which slightly annoyed me as I thought it would’ve been more appropriate to just keep my husband’s meal in the back until both were ready. It put us in that awkward position of my husband wanting to wait for my meal, but me encouraging him to start while his breakfast was still warm.
Overall, the huevos rancheros was the winner at our table. The bacon in my burrito was only ok — I wish it would’ve been crispy. After the meal, I asked our waiter if there was any type of «create your own burrito» option. He said no, but both my husband and I agreed that a breakfast burrito with chorizo instead of the bacon would’ve been a thousand times better (I stole some of his chorizo for my burrito — soooo much better than the bacon).
We would come back but I would definitely try something different next time.

Humble Pie is still a solid 4 stars for me. The best part about coming here is the menu always changes up so you can have a different experience each time you go. We called ahead and they sat us almost immediately when we go there on a Sat. night.
Our waitress told us about the specials and we had a tough decision to make. I normally say 2 to 3 small plates per person right? I think Humble Pie’s plates are fairly large and I’d say I could have split 3 with my boyfriend and would have been really full, but we went for 4 cause that’s how we roll!
The highlight of the night was the scallop dish OMG I’m still dreaming about that creamy cauliflower purée and pesto with those perfectly cooked scallops and fried capers give me more!!! I hope they keep this on the menu for awhile because I’m going to NEED it again soon. The pork special was really good too, also served over cauliflower but this time the cauliflower had a little more texture to it like rice, it was served with brown gravy and the pork was so tender you could eat it with a spoon. The grits carbonara sounded good but overall was the least favorite dish of the night, way over salted. I also really enjoyed the gnocchi with the mushrooms delicious.
Humble Pie is a great place to come with a large crowd and there is something for everyone here. Brunch or dinner you won’t be disappointed.
