Hampton Inn & Suites Raleigh Downtown

I’m over 60 years old, and I’ve stayed in hotels all over the planet, from Brazil to Iceland and from the Philippines to Italy. Despite that wide range of hotel experience, the night I just spent in the Hampton Inn Downtown Raleigh was the WORST night I’ve ever had in a hotel. Let me repeat that. THE WORST NIGHT EVER. How can that be you ask? We’ll get to that, but first let’s talk about the hotel check in process and some other issues.
I’m a «Hilton Honors» member, which means I’m a regular customer and supposedly benefit from some perks. One of the perks is early online check in, a process in which the members can select their own room. About 48 hours before my stay, Hilton e-​mails me a link which says «you can perform your online check in.» Great! I go to the link, and the website says «too early for check in.» What the hell? Ok, I wait a day and try again, and this time I’m allowed to select a room. But of course, my preferred room location (away from elevators) does not have rooms with two beds. So I reluctantly choose a room on the south side near the elevator.
Flash forward one day, and we arrive in the middle of tropical storm Bonnie, about two hours after the posted check in time. There is a no parking zone in front of the hotel, and a large sign saying «do not park in garage before check in.» We get out of the car in this tropical deluge (no awning) and are soaked in the 30 seconds it takes to get inside. The desk clerk asks if we have a car, and when I tell her yes she says «hopefully they won’t tow it before we get you checked in.» And oh, by the way, parking is $ 6. So then the clerk tells me «your room is not ready.» Remember, this is the room we personally selected on the Hilton website, a website which also let Hilton know my expected arrival time. Great to be a member, eh? So anyway, the clerk finds us another room on a different floor and happens to mention, «Too bad you are on the noisy side.» What? «Yes, the south side is near all the outdoor bars, and the north side has the train. You get the south side.» I’m thinking to myself, how bad can this be? As it turns out, very bad. More on that later.
So I take the womenfolk and luggage to the room that I didn’t choose, and I go to move the car into the garage. Guess what? There is a sign from the local businesses basically saying if you patronize them they will comp your parking in the same garage. But not the Hampton. So I’m paying $ 200 a night for a room, and they add $ 6 to that for parking. Thanks.
After moving the car, the front desk clerk gave me some advice on where to eat and she was spot on. Great local place within walking distance. Thanks Maleena (and hope I didn’t butcher the spelling). After dinner we check out the city for a while, and then head back to the hotel to get some sleep. Wife takes a shower and uh oh, the shower control breaks. No way to shut off the thunderous supply of water. Back downstairs I go to visit Maleena. She is very sorry, but is apparently completely alone and the only employee in the hotel, so no one can come to work on the plumbing. But luckily she has a free room, just on a different floor (you guessed it, the room I originally selected!) We pack everything up and move.
Finally it’s time to get to bed, but just outside our room there is some sort of commotion in the street. Apparently there are acres of beer gardens and outside taverns that are a very popular Raleigh night spot surrounding the hotel and they are only 20 feet from the hotel. The noise grows to a continuous uproar. It’s unbelievable, sort of fraternity party meets Mardi gras meets Oktoberfest. Hundreds of drunken revelers are screaming, yelling and singing RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR ROOM. This cacophony goes on until nearly 3AM. It is impossible to sleep, although my wife takes all the pillows and vainly tries to avoid some of the noise by sleeping in the bath tub. It was just a horrendous experience, and I cannot believe the Hampton does not mention this on their website or have some sort of disclaimer. That I paid $ 200 for this experience is also unbelievable.
Although I’ve painted a disappointing picture of this place, it wasn’t all bad. The building itself is nice, it is centrally located, and all the staff I spoke with were friendly and eager to please. The complimentary breakfast was excellent. But none of that can make up for the fact that we couldn’t do what we wanted, which was just get a decent night’s sleep. So if you need a hotel in Raleigh, and might be bothered by party noise, I would not use this one. Unless it was below freezing and there was no chance of an outdoor party next to your room.

Stayed here for a night on a Saturday. Although we requested early check-​in our room was not ready when we arrived. We did get a parking pass though so we were able to park across the street. Our room ended up being ready around 1pm.
Stayed in 207, when we checked-​in we were told we were given an upgrade. The room was very nice, it had a wet bar right when you walked in, a couch and table, a desk and a large king bed. There was nice counter top area with a sink and vanity and then the bathroom. As I’ve complained many a times about this chain, there were no air vents in the bathroom! Ugh!
Overall the room was clean and cooled down really fast once we turned the AC down. The staff brought us a bottle of wine and chocolates for my birthday which was super sweet!
The bed was comfortable and it did just what we needed for one night.
The only bad thing was the view… I mean, it was a view of someone’s’ backyard full of trash. Yuck. But we just kept the curtains closed and didn’t look out at night because who knows what we might have seen!

Great hotel in the middle of all the bars and restaurants. It was a little pricey at $ 200 on a Saturday but then again you can walk towards everything. Kudos to JD and Maleena at the front desk, they had the pulse of the city at the fingertips. Room was great and spotless. Hotel is right next to the Raleigh Beer Garden and the street noise will end after 2:30 am, all good.

Best happy hour in town! I always stay here when I’m in downtown Raleigh. Free beer, wine, and apps during the week from 5:30 to 7:00. The rooms are good and the location is great.

This place is awful. I really want to give it zero stars. The rooms are not cleaned well and they have bed bugs. I woke up in the middle of the night after being bitten and itching. I looked in the bed and found several small bugs. The bugs are tiny and hard to see but if you look and examine closely you will find them.
I called the hotel the next day to report the bed bugs. A front desk supervisor came to my room with a paper cup and plastic gloves. He said he didn’t believe I had any bed bugs and he was there to inspect. He pulled up the sheets and looked at the bed. He then told me he didn’t see any. I told him I would not sleep in the bed and I’d just sleep on the couch in the room. He never offered to get me another room. However, he did offer 5,000 HHonor points. Are you kidding me? That is unacceptable customer service.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone especially if you are a business traveler. I am totally disgusted.

After three weeks of playing phone tag with their sales guy, Trey, he finally got back to me to say they do not offer a discounted rate for a wedding block. Three weeks. To say they cannot help. Two other [more reputable downtown] hotels got back to me within the hour. Its the Hampton inn not the Ritz Carlton. very poor customer service. Why would I want to refer my friends and family to this hotel?

One of the BEST stays at a hotel EVER, Friendly and generous staff, comfy room and bed, overall cleanliness… a really great spot to rest your head

O.k. let me say this. Stay here. I’ve been to a number of Hampton Suites around the country and this one is by far the best to date. The breakfast offers more choices and staff was especially attentive. The evening night person «Nigel» blew me away with his generous spirit and positively on point customer service. I needed a Red Bull and he delivered!
Won’t go wrong here…

I stopped in to wait in the Lobby for my Boss who was staying here. To my delight there was a very casual Happy Hour in the Lobby so I enjoyed a cup o’ wine and caught some News on one of the TVs while I waited. The facilities were clean and the Staff was friendly. The hotel is in a great location on Glenwood which is in walking distance to plenty of restaurants, bars, shops, nightlife and people watching.

Great location! There are bars and food within a short distance. Hotel was very clean and the hotel staff was friendly. They give free bottles of cold water out at the front desk which is a plus! Will definitely come back here if I come back to Raleigh!

Stayed here for my wife’s birthday. The suites were very large and super nice. Décor and room updates were modern well done. Staff was great and they left a nice little gift in the room for my wife. Breakfast was fresh and very good. The hotel rates were also affordable and you cannot ask for a better location right off Glenwood South.

Best hotel stay I have ever had… stayed with a bunch of friends and we had an amazing stay. Staff were beyond friendly and accommodating – Calvin is superb with the breakfast, and the night person, Nigel, was so nice! Everyone we encountered was wonderful. The place was perfectly clean, and within walking distance to a lot of great bars and restaurants in a great part of town. I live 900 miles away, but will definitely be back!

Free hot breakfast with waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee and orange juice. They have an indoor pool, the rooms are great and you can’t beat the location right on Glenwood Ave. This is going to be our new go to hotel in Raleigh. The staff is really friendly too.

Ok, so we were taking a road trip through the Raleigh area, decided to try to find a place to stay the night. I Unilocaled of course and saw this gem. Location was more the key to us choosing this place and last minute availability. It was right in the middle of all the restaurants and bars but that was way more of a positive than a negative. The hotel was new, designed well, super clean and very friendly and helpful staff. Very surprising free breakfast in lobby… Totally recommended!

My friend and I are staying in Raleigh for 3 nights and chose this hotel due to its location. Upon check-​in we were greeted by a friendly staff, and the amenities were explained thoroughly (manager wine/​beer reception nightly and free breakfast buffet). The room was clean and neat — a little odd in the layout, but OK considering the rate.
Pro’s: great location in downtown, very clean, lots of outlets in convenient locations, fridge in room, comfortable bed and nice towels.
Oddities: the only trash can in the entire room is the tiny one beside the toilet in the bathroom, the toiletries provided were not good quality, the «store» did not have mouth wash
Picky, I know, but I wanted to be honest! I will definitely stay here again though!

Very clean (and I am a germaphobe) extremely friendly staff (especially considering the drunken stragglers they have to deal with), and reasonably priced! If you are from out of town and want to experience the Raleigh night life. stay here. And go to Brooklyn Heights… Best bar in Raleigh!

Great location and a really nice hotel. This isn’t your parents Hampton Inn. It has nice amenities, great beds and an open lobby area with free coffee. It’s walking distance to restaurants and bars.
Our only issue was when housekeeping knocked on our door at 9am to see when we were checking out. Since we were away from our kids, we were trying to get as much sleep as possible.
We will stay here again for sure.

A new hotel with a price you just can’t beat for downtown Raleigh.
I needed a place to stay in/​near the DT area this past week for work. Out of the handful I looked up, this was the only one that was under $ 200 a night.
Pros: new, clean, beautiful hotel. Think upscale Hampton Inn. Good sized room, big bathroom. (I like to have room to get ready). Free continental breakfast spread with a lot of food options. Hotel is within walking distance of restaurants and clubs. Which brings me to the cons…
Cons: Because of the super fly location near the clubs, expect to hear loud music and bass bumping in your room until they shut down at 2am. Not a huge problem for me because I can sleep through anything. That being said though… it was pretty distracting while I was awake and trying to do some work.
Parking is in a deck across the street for $ 6. Hampton adds it to your hotel bill. One thing I was not told when checking out is to take your key with you to get out of the deck. The parking attendant was super understanding though. She said it happens all the time.
Ridiculously friendly staff. I’m not even that nice to my own friends (kidding). Great to have such a nice hotel option in downtown Raleigh now. The Hampton will definitely be my go-​to place for future trips.
