Really wish I found this place sooner! Warm sandwich with melted cheese, delicious dipping sauce, great iced tea, fast service! Clean, open environment and very affordable. I got free re-fills in my iced tea and a lid to go with my check(without having to ask)! Only thing that threw me off was that a «sesame bun» is really just a hamburger bun. Only thing I would change would be homemade potato chips but, for the price, it can’t be beat!

I really like Grouchos as a fast/inexpensive lunch option. I always order the STP Dipper with the bleu cheese dressing. It is so good! I think the best part is the soft bread, but the roast beef with the turkey and melty cheese is a really good combo. I love that they have a lot of cool NC State memorabilia and have really embraced the Hillsborough St. location. Parking can be a B word at times, but never too awful.

I love Grouchos! It’s definitely my favorite sandwich place. The environment is really cool, food is good as always, and they are super quick. There are specials Monday through Thursday that are worth checking out. The Apollo is my favorite but the STP is definitely the runner up. Be sure to get a sub with some 45 sauce to dip it in.

A staple from South Carolina graces Raleigh with its presence! Great food and friendly, fast service… I’m talking«look down to check your phone and your foods here» fast. Sandwiches served on the softest bread with their«special» phenomenal sauce. Nice beer selection too! Can’t say enough good things about the staff and owners as well. Good people who always take time to say hi.

One of my favorite restaurants in the area. Unique old school deli with amazing dipping sandwiches, and a fascinating old school potato salad recipe. I love this stuff. The sandwich meats are of the highest quality which makes them better than everyone else to me… They taste awesome with the hot soft fresh rolls they use… Even their potato chips are awesome, especially when dipped in the sandwich sauce. The 45 sauce is a must try and they have some of the best iced tea on earth with nice crushed ice… Love it!!! This place originated in Columbia, SC countless years ago by a quality driven«Groucho»(who looked like Groucho Marx) who invented his own recipes and sauces. The dipping sandwiches are delicious. I believe his son continued the business and I applaud him for successfully scaling the business while holding the quality. It is a perfect blend of traditional northern style deli dishes with their own unique southern invented style. They even have some nice healthy options including vegetarian dishes, but I have to go for the meat deli sandwiches every time. The girls that work there are also so nice, and they always provide the best attentive service. It is a great college town meal experience, that I truly love! I am not saying some other places are not good, but this is the best sandwich experience I drive from Chapel Hill to experience around once a week if I can…

I love this place! The service is always wonderful and energetic. The food is super quick and reasonably priced. The decorations are very appealing, being that they are NC State themed. If you’re looking for a great lunch place, this is it! P. S. Try the STP!

Solely based on service. Grant it its next to Nc state so perhaps the reason NOT kid friendly. Not kid friendly menu & the server shouldn’t roll her eyes at a hungry 4 yr old especially while facing his mother. Based on the reviews & because we wanted sandwiches we where going to try them out. But because of a nasty young server with guts we left because I have class. The menu not kid friendly either. You know it’s a shame because someone owns this place & has bills to pay but because the server has no courtesy for a hungry child, we left and didn’t give them our business Atmosphere was boring & muted. Not much seating & the smithsonian has more style then this place did with their lack luster everything. We’re at larancherita giving them our business right now. The atmosphere is very pleasant from the minute we walked in. They even let us bring in our drinks from grouchos, since that’s all we bought from this place. So far so good & the server is so pleasant.

Groucho’s Deli is the place for all you toasted sub fans. They provide meaty, cheesy, melty sandwiches that definitely hit the spot if it’s what you’re craving. So if you’re in the mood for Jimmy John’s, this is the exact opposite place to go. Tucked in a small corner off of Hillsborough St., Groucho’s is a quiet fast-casual spot, perfect for lunch or a pre-game meal before the night starts, as they also serve beer on tap and in bottle. People mainly come for the Specialty subs, but they do serve a wide array of regular sandwiches from vegetarian to tuna melts. Also, they have a surprisingly wide variety of salads. Groucho’s has good, actually, great sandwiches here, but I have a few minute issues as well. I do wish that they had the option for larger subs, as the regular size is on the small side and can easily be finished by a regular college dude. Also, their add-on’s are a bit pricey. If I could, I’d rate Groucho’s 3.75 stars, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt because of their great sauces. This place is definitely worth a try if you’re wavering at all.

Groucho’s was a favorite of mine in Clemson, so I was extremely excited for it to open by NC State in Raleigh. I went in this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by the size of the space and the love for NCSU as seen through the décor. If you are into delicious subs, this is a place for you. The two Grouchos sandwich staples are the Apollo and the STP Dippers, which feature meat and cheese on the most delicious«fat sub» roll. The best part is the special 45 sauce — a mix of Russian and Thousand Island. Each meal comes with chips(I opt for Baked) and a pickle. I’ll certainly be back again soon!

My fiancée and I(both State students) were eager to check out a new restaurant, Hillsborough-adjacent. We were both extremely underwhelmed. It’s not that the food made us sick or anything, it was just not anything to write home about. None of the vegetarian items that they offered were particularly intriguing, and so I opted for a «pasta and greens» salad. My fiancée ordered a sandwich. Unfortunately, neither of our orders justified the $ 6+ price tag. We’re better off at Chipotle, so we don’t have any plans to go back.

A+ to the team at Grouchos — the service is always top-notch, the prices are incredibly reasonable and the food is consistently good! This isnt your typical Subway sandwich joint, and I wouldnt come expecting any elaborate concoctions of new-age sandwiches, but Groucho’s is a quick, reliable sandwich shop with good meat, gooey cheese and soft rolls. Highly recommend the STP Dipper!

Was recommend by a friend of mine and I was pleasantly surprised. I am not a huge sandwich person but these were incredible! Soft, warm bread. Melt-in-your-mouth meats and cheese… Definitely going back for more!

I saw the word deli so I had to try it out. Deli this is not. Sandwich was lame. Beer selection was also lame with 0 local options(no, Foothills isn’t «local») Plus they charge for tap water! Who does that?

My buddies and I decided to check this place out earlier today. The staff was incredibly friendly and the place was clean and comfortable but the food… Just go to Jimmy Johns if you’re going to get a fast food sub. Subway could do better. I got the Vegetarian Italian Hoagie. Its description was four types of cheese and italian salad. I was excited for well made cheese sandwich like you’d maybe get from an italian restaurant or ATLEAST something substantial. The«hoagie» is a four inch, soft sub with seriously four slices of cheese, one of each type. Not thick slices of deli cheese, four slices of cheese with that glaze like they’ve just been pulled from individually sliced Kraft packages. It was laughable. Who thinks that’s an acceptable sandwich on a menu?! My buddies got the White Moose and the popular STP Dipper. They were equally underwhelmed, joking that if this was«Choice turkey» then lowest cost was probably the only determining factor. Again, Jersey Mikes or Jimmy Johns blow this place out of the water. Harris teeter’s deli has better bread, meats and cheeses. Subway is cheaper and twice the size for exactly the quality.

Amazing food! This is my third or fourth time here and have found everything to be amazing. The service is awesome, speedy, and most friendly. They have a decent beer list and the prices are comparable(if not a little cheaper) than the surrounding restaurants. I always look forward to dropping in!

Saw these guys pop up on Twitter and knew I had to go check them out. My future husband wakes up talking about sandwiches on the weekends, so I surprised him with a little adventure to somewhere new! Grouchos is in the old post office location off of Hillsborough street, which I think is cool. They are directly behind Jasmine’s. I did not think about the fact that there would be NO nearby parking on a Sunday because of the church nearby, but other times, there is street parking behind, beside and in front of this place. First impression, it looks brand new and really clean — they did a great job renovating! Lots of seating, booth and table, and a full wraparound bar with lots of stools. Love the skylights that make it feel bright and open. Only two TVs which I thought was strange because they are definitely going for a sports bar-ish vibe. Even though it’s a chain, they had some NCSU memorabilia on the walls, which we like! Had some beer on tap and in bottles — saw some Foothills and Sweetwater in between the Bud and Miller lite — semi local, so I’ll take it! Pretty empty on Sunday at 12, and I think the word just hasn’t gotten out yet. Two servers, both very helpful — suggested the STP dipper, which I was planning on ordering anyway based on David B’s review. The back of their shirts said«curing hangovers since 1941» which made me laugh — this is definitely not a place to get a healthy meal. For less than $ 7, we got a decent sized sandwich, loaded with deli meat and melty cheese over bacon bits. Came with the dipping sauce(called 47 sauce I think?) that was a great mix of mayo based/russian dressing/dill. Definitely made the sandwich, and I loved dipping my chips in it too. The best thing about this place is we had sandwiches in hand maybe 3 minutes after ordering. SOFAST. not sure if it will always be like this, but they were ONIT on Sunday. If they stay open late, they will be a hit with NCSU students in the library studying late night. When I was in grad school all we had open late was Jimmy Johns and I would have loved to have this option! Will definitely go back to try some other offerings!

Having gone to USC and living a couple of blocks from the original Groucho’s in Five Points, I was absolutely thrilled to find out that they were coming to Raleigh. I used to have to purchase the sauce and make my own sandwiches at home. Just not the same experience. Friendly staff, super fast service. I ordered my sandwich from the bar and the guys in the back heard the order and had it ready seconds after they got the ticket in the back. Get the sweet tea. Amazing. And with little crunchy pellet ice. I always get the STP dipper. The all turkey version is also good. You get this awesome secret sauce which is mayo based, and has lots of dill in it. Dip your sandwich, then dip your chips. You’ll want to lick the dip cup clean it’s so good. I’m thrilled to have Groucho’s in Raleigh and look forward to many many more experiences here. I’ve already been twice in the first three days.
