Fitness Connection

No issues as of yet. Gets crowded after 5 but to be expected anywhere. Staff at the front has always been pleasant. Prefer this location over north hills.

I have been a member of this gym for a little over a year now. I would NOT recommend signing a contract with them.
The equipment is ok. Nothing special. Sometimes a few are broken, for several days. The cinema room smells weird so I can’t work out in there. Towels are a joke. Most of the time they don’t have clean towels for you.
The customer service is why I give them a 1 star review. I had a problem with my account and I tried speaking to several representatives at the gym to see if they could help. No one really seemed like they would/​could do anything. Kind of shrugged me off. I left my email and cell phone number with One of the reps, Mike, three times within a month and never received any call or emails back. I also dealt with some turnover because throughout this month of trying to fix my account one person helping me quit and one person got fired. I finally asked for corporates number when I realized the sales reps were useless. The number they gave me was for a call center based out of Houston, Texas and they were third party — couldn’t do anything to help me. They gave me another number to call — the «corporate office» who, after being on hold, eventually told me they could not help and to call another number based out of Raleigh and they could help me. That was the call center in Houston, Texas. Very frustrating. Finally spoke to Todd in the Raleigh gym and he was the only one in the gym so he couldn’t help me. Example 25 why this place has the worst customer service.
To cancel your membership you can ONLY do it online, and it has to be approved. Not to worry, every staff member or representative you talk to I’ll gladly direct you to the website to cancel, instead of trying to help the customer out. You pay for each month it takes to cancel. Checking on the status is so much fun because the sales reps at the gym are useless.
Overall, the headache the staff causes is not worth the mediocre gym equipment and overall atmosphere.

The gym is good size and has great equipment. The staff is friendly and so are the people who attend. The trainers are also very knowledgeable I’ve used Chaz for a session on technique and felt I got my moneys worth. The draw backs are people don’t re rack the weights in the proper positions, the dumbbell rack isn’t completely labeled so you don’t have a logical order where they are. And there aren’t enough squat racks. But for the price this gym is worth it even if you have to dig for the weights you want. They should address the re racking issue more though.

Pleasant valley isn’t much to look at but boy, the interior in this gym is so nice. Relaxing yoga studio, modern design… The equipment room is spacious so you don’t have to maneuver around others…

For the money its well worth it. Clean and equipment is kept up better than other gyms.

You will regret your New Years resolution if you get a membership at fitness connection.
I’ve had a membership here for 2 years before beginning my battle of canceling.
You might ask why I had it for TWO WHOLE YEARS before canceling.
During those 2 years, I was a student where I could gym during the day while everyone else was working.
I had no idea that from 5:30 am-9:00 am and 3:30 pm-8:00 pm it would be THAT crowded and dirty.
They ALWAYS ran out of towels. Most cardio machines would be taken. And the bathrooms/​locker rooms were so disgusting that I would go out of my way to change at my place before hitting the gym. Filth to the nth degree.
Also, on Sunday’s they say open at 8 am but because the turnover rate between employees is so high, sometimes no one would be there to open the gym until 8:45 am!!!
Can you not be ready by 8 am? Is 8 am that hard?
This happened about 30% of the time. Since this happened on the regular, why could they not have TWO employees open???
Also, if you plan on quitting, do it ASAP. Took me 2 months to quit. They make you pay those 2 months.
Also, they need to educate their staff about canceling. Whenever I’d ask if my cancellation was in the system, they had no idea and just shrugged.
Also, I had a staff member threaten me because I scanned myself in (no one was at the front desk– who’s fault was that???) I submitted a complaint and nothing was done.
Overall, professionalism and cleanliness really did it for me. Do yourself a favor and join elsewhere.

For the money this is a solid, clean gym. I haven’t tried to cancel yet, so I don’t know if I will run into any problems as others have stated. It is on 2-​levels and has a pretty broad range of equipment, though they could use another squat rack.
Some of the equipment is broken or missing a piece here and there, but not any worse than other gyms in the area and even better for the most part. The staff can be a little pushy on the products and personal training, but once you have let them know (and you have to let them ALL know haha) they won’t bother you with it anymore.
All and all not a bad experience for $ 9.95 a month (and $ 39 annual fee).

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE BUSINESS. Problem after problem. Rude associates and awful service. Not worth the trouble for a dirty and broken gym.

A pretty decent gym. You can thank Gold’s for the set up & equipment. Gold’s sold this corporate run gym to Fitness Connection a few years ago. They’ve made some improvements, but very little. This is a step up from their RTP locations which is usually packed full of non-​bathed people & where they seem to fix broken equipment by removing it and replacing it with nothing.
My only complaint about this place is the volume level of top 40 they blast out in the back squat room. I had to buy noise canceling headphones to drowned out the music @ RTP, but back in the squat corner here it’s just as bad & the headphones just can’t compete with Katy Perry.
I’m sure in a few years this place will go under like every other gym, but for $ 10 a month there’s little to complain about.

I started lifting weights at 15 years old and was accused by my parents of juicing on steroids before nabbing my first kiss. At age 15, neither were true. Through some gorilla genetics, I could bench over 315 pounds on my pecs after only a few months of training.
So I’ve been through my fair share of fitness programs and gyms, by amenities and price alone this is a 5 star gym. Thousands of square feet, a movie theatre to watch such cinematic masterpieces like Divergent, circuit training, tons of cardio machines, cycling and enough free weights to overwhelm sexual chocolate Mark Henry.
That’s all great, but the admin and management portion of the gym sucks. For example, my credit card information had gotten hacked and when my card on file didn’t go through, I received an upcharge of $ 29.99 per month for both myself and the wife instead of our regular $ 9.99 charge once I submitted the new info. I called the location and they told me that although my card got charged extra this month, the extra charge would be used as a credit for future months. I followed up our call with an e-​mail to the manager to confirm the situation and future credits, but I never heard back and never got credit for future months.
Don’t expect great customer service or managers. I have attended classes though and they have been top-​notch. My advice is that if you want to join, wait until the Black Friday/​Xmas season and they will hook you up with a $ 99 down/​$ 9.95 per month deal, at least that is what they had last year. What they may not tell you is there is an annual $ 29.95 charge for any plan on top of whatever your standard monthly payments are.
To me, the $ 99 down/​$ 9.95 per month is much better than the current promotion of $ 19.95 down then $ 19.95 per month. At that rate, once you have an ongoing membership for over 8 months that plan is more expensive.
Overall, worth it to join for the value but there are some annoying setbacks.

This gym has good equipment and I absolutely love my trainer, Daniel. The classes are great to. I wish that the management and sales team in this place had better customer service training and/​or just didn’t suck as much as they do. They absolutely do not care if you have a problem or concern. They basically laugh at you if you have a problem. They constantly screwed up my personal training billing and then did nothing to rectify the situation when I brought it to their attention. I do not recommend signing a contract with this company.

I read all the terrible reviews and I figured I would give my own insight as I just signed up. I pay $ 10 a month and I was told about the $ 29.99 annual fee. Any gym I have ever went to has an annual fee… how do you think they get new equipment that people still b*tch about. I love this gym and was never harassed by personal trainers. I did however sign up for a personal trainer because it gives me a reason to go and someone to help me reach my goals. It’s hard to do when no one is pushing you towards your goals. The classes are awesome to even be included in your membership because they COULD cost a hell of a lot extra. This gym has a lot to offer and I love it. I came from planet fitness where everything cost extra. I love going here, enjoying my hour workout, taking 15 mins in the sauna and going home. The staff is very sweet and personable as well! The only reason I give 4 stars is because every place has room for improvement, but it’s still pretty awesome!

I honestly believe that the classes alone are worth the membership… Cycle and Body pump? Burn 600 – 700 calories in an hour! Yesss Please! Everyone so nice and friendly! I am def happy with my choice!

This gym is definitely the best value in town. The sheer square footage, number of classes and equipment for the reasonable monthly cost is great. The kids club is also one of the best in town. They also have Sunday hours for the kids which most gyms don’t have.

This gym is great for the price! All the classes are included and all of the instructors that teach them are great! I especially love Stephen, Jason, and Carol who teach yoga there. Sometimes it gets pretty packed in but that’s a great motivator too. All of the front desk people are super friendly and they remember your name, which is not the case at other gyms I’ve belonged to. I would recommend this gym to anyone who just wants to pay $ 20 a month and get all the perks of a $ 50 membership somewhere else!

Why won’t they maintain their equipment? There are machines that have been broken for weeks. One would assume they’d spruce the place up for their January rush but instead a potential customer can see signs on dozens of pieces of equipment. That’s not good business.

If you live in the area or are simply a member of Fitness Connection, you MUST try this place out. ONLY deal with Michael. He is the kindest, most genuine person there, and I always look forward to his high-​fives when I come and go.

I like this gym for the cost. They usually run a $ 10 per month special and, as with all gyms, the up front cost will vary wildly based on how well you/​they bargain. The equipment isn’t always the newest but they have a nice large cardio cinema room, a good amount of free weights, and a half basketball court. The north hills location adds a pool and full basketball court while the one on six forks has two racquetball courts. They also run a lot of free classes and have tanning booths. I enjoy those amenities that gyms costs 3x as much don’t have.
It is fairly no frills as far as the staff and absolute cleanliness but I’m there to work out, not to have a tea party social. If you’re looking for a gym check it out. They normally have a 5 day guest pass on the website so you can get a good feel for the place before you commit.

I have been a member since 2011 and I really like the location at Pleasant Valley. They have nice equipment where you can listen to the TV’s through your headphones by the equipment. I haven’t seen machines broken for long periods of times or had problems with any of them. The people are nice, after 2 years, I finally asked what machines would work best for my needs. I also like that they have a women’s only area, I sometimes go in there to stretch. They give out towels, a plus and always have spray for the machines. Compared to other gyms, I would recommend this one!
2 things I would like to see: 1. more mats available for body pump, but I guess that’s not too bad of a problem to have… a popular class! And 2. Zumba at this gym. I have gone to other FC gyms and didn’t like them as much.

After visiting the RTP location, I had to update this review. I used to complain about this location, but it’s workout heaven compared to RTP. Here is my comparison:
–They have the women’s workout room, which gives you a small gym feel within a large gym
–They have the cardio cinema
–The facility is generally better maintained than RTP.
