Douglas Carroll Salon, Spa and Boutique

If I had to sum up my experience in one word, it would be unimpressed. For the sake of those considering this salon I will elaborate.
I chose this place after hearing positive things from co-​workers and then finding a Groupon to off set the high prices. First I booked the deal which was a facial and massage, then decided to get my hair colored and cut as well.
The massage and facial were decent, but they took place at the same time (she put a mask on then rubbed my arms, took the mask off and did something else, then rubbed my legs, and so on). I don’t enjoy facials, I do them because they are necessary so I found it very hard to relax. I assume this is only done when people purchase a Groupon so booked separately at full price it may be better. However, because it is inside a salon, it is very noisy.
Now for the main reason I gave one star, my hair. I was paired with a very experienced (and expensive) «master» stylist. I wanted a simple color retouch which she did ok (I don’t feel she was very thorough as I see some gray roots less than 2 weeks after my appointment) and a cut. The cut was absolutely horrendous! Please see the photos I included in my review. I had to walk around for a week with this mess of a haircut until I could go get it fixed elsewhere. The cut was supposed to be slightly angled (to be longer in the front), but I ended up with several random long pieces hanging down in the back and some poorly cut layers. It was just plain awful.
Lastly, I sat in the chair outside the staff break room and had to listen to a staff meeting. Ok fine, but then I also had to listen to my stylist regurgitate the sales pitch I had just heard them learn in their meeting. I found this to be quite tacky.

Bought a groupon for a massage and facial. Had a good experience from the therapist, she gave me a great facial and an OK massage. Woman at front desk needs to smile, as it was very unappealing when I was checking out.

This salon is lovely and expensive. I was willing to pay the price, but after 5 months of trying to get a really good hair cut from one of their top stylists, I have given up. The first cut and color was very good. But after that, every cut has been uneven, layers are not blended, and my hair hung in clumps near my neck. There was simply no style and it was unmanageable. The second application of highlights — along with a total $ 303 tab for cut, color, and treatment — was much heavier than the original, making the top of my hair look almost blond rather than auburn. I won’t be back.

Love the service at Douglas Carroll and Lindsey is just super. I highly recommend the salon.

I looooove the new Med Spa inside Douglas Carroll salon! Dr. Nacouzi and his staff are, hands down, the nicest and most helpful bunch of people! They offer Botox, PCA chemical peels, Dermafrac, IPL and laser hair removal all at extremely affordable prices, and all the services are virtually pain free with the new equipment they have! The spa itself is clean and beautifully decorated, and I feel like I’m at home when I’m in there I highly recommend this spa!

Michelle Tabbert at Douglas Carroll is the best. I have been going to her for years, and she is the only stylist that can really work with my hair and the the color just the way I like it. She knows all the latest styles and trends, and loves bringing something new into the mix. I highly recommend her!

I have been going to this salon for a long long time. It seems lately, though, they give the impression they are hurrying from me to another client and are not giving the time and attention I need and overbook clients in a way so presently a cut and color takes almost 2 hours and many times longer, depending on overbooking and the availability of someone besides my stylist to shampoo. One thing I have never liked is their perceived assumption that every one who goes there is wealthy and can afford to get an extra $ 20 or $ 25 treatment in the shampoo room. Whether I can afford it or not, it shouldn’t be assumed and they should include the price when describing the treatment. Where is their price list? Each stylist charges differently and it would be helpful to see this posted at each station. Maybe I would want something else, but I don’t know about what they can offer. This is an extremely crowded salon and it pains me they have made me feel less like an individual and more like a number.
Finally, it’s odd to me that they offer «No animal tested» hair products while Doug’s wife in the enclosed clothes shop sells fur.

I purchased Moroccanoil products from this salon and discovered they charged 21% over the retail price. Buyer beware if you intend to buy products check the retail price before you do.

Love this salon! Have only been a few times, but always impressed. I gave them four stars because they’re a little pricey, but I still love their products and services.
Erin has done my hair twice and she did an AMAZING job! I am most likely going back to her for my wedding hair and makeup. I highly recommend her. She’s also incredibly sweet and fun to talk to! My mother is rather skeptical when it comes to getting new hair styles, but Anthony did a fabulous job with her color, cut and straighten. It looked phenomenal and she was very pleased!
My sister and I also got our nails done there and had a nice time while enjoying some champagne.
The product line that appeals to me the most is ORIBE. I have bought their dry thickening finishing spray and plumping mouse. I will be back for more when needed!

I came for a massage with a groupon I got a whole ago on a whim… probably one of the best massages ever. Denea was the best, I’ll be back within the month.

Doug has been one of the top stylists in the area for many years. Featured in magazines and as a platform artist for top companies. My wife is in the business and she has the highest regard for the quality of styling and coloring done here. I really like the layout of the salon here, and they always did a great job on my hard to style hair.

My experience was with a microdermabrasion… with a groupon. I would like to mention that the young lady was very pleasant throughout, however I did feel she was pushing other services of the salon/spa.Evidence of long hairs on the blanket so I assume it was not clean for my service… and since she allowed me on the bed wearing boots probably not clean for the next client either. Usually for this service a band is provided to move hair away from the face… not in this case, so my facial cleansing was not thorough because she was trying not to get it into my hair… which it did anyway. The service lasted maybe 10 minutes (typically should be around 30… at least at other spas) and she absolutely did not target all areas of my face… just a few places here and there. Very sporadic and inconsequential. I did like the products used afterwards… vitamin C and a moisturizer. Unfortunately I would not pay full price for the service received today and in fact felt ‘cheated’ out of the $ 49 I did pay. Thats equivalent to about 5 dollars a minute and nothing short of fabulous should cost that much.

I bought a laser hair removal package from here and dreaded coming to my appointments. First of all, it took forever to call and setup my appointments. I would be put on hold forever, then when someone finally answered, they said they weren’t the right person and would transfer me to someone else, and I would be on hold for at least another 10 minutes. The people that work there are so snobby I couldn’t even stand checking in with them. If you don’t look like you spend your day blowing daddy or your husbands money, you might as well turn around and walk out.
The laser hair removal wasn’t even worth it. Like the other reviewer below, I also saw not more than a 30% reduction in hair and I also have fair skin and dark hair. I was going to another salon for laser hair removal on a different area at the same time and it was miles better than what I was getting at Douglas Carroll.
I live about 30 – 45 minutes from here depending on traffic. I drove all that way one night for an appointment during rush hour only for them to tell me that the technician had already left for the day. I had confirmed my appointment for that night at my previous appointment. I was fuming.
Finally I got a call the morning of my 2^nd to last appointment with them asking if I could move my appointment up in the day. I called back saying I couldn’t because of work, and they said from that day on they would be doing laser hair removal out of another office that was even farther away, and only open Monday-​Friday while I am at work. I gave up by that point, and had them reimburse me for my remaining 2 sessions. It just wasn’t worth it to me to finish the rest of the package.

I attended for a year, and am glad my upfront-​purchased appointments are coming to an end. This review does not speak for the laser technician (see my earlier review), but mostly my frustration with how poorly this salon handles its appointments.
Since this salon did a Groupon, they were booking up fast; I booked all of my appointments out at once, a year in advance. The first few months of appointments didn’t even come with a courtesy reminder call (though that changed later out). And the first six months of appointments were always a harried ordeal; the technician was overbooked or running behind, so we’d have to blaze through my appointment. One day, I arrived at the salon to discover a voicemail on my phone FROM the salon. They had called 10 minutes prior to my appointment time requesting to cancel due to a double-​booking! I live 40 minutes away, and was NOT amused. The tech finally told the front desk they weren’t booking me enough of a time window to complete everything I was signed up for. My remaining appointments were re-​booked into longer time slots.
Then the machine broke. I got a same-​day call asking to reschedule. I requested something within the same week (to try to keep my appointments more-​or-​less on schedule), and rather than receiving accommodation, or apology, I got attitude from the receptionist. Come on!
A few months ago, my tech had to move to a new space altogether. But Douglas Carroll still manages her appointments. They failed to tell me in advance that the new space is not open weekends (when the remainder of my appointments were scheduled for). I received a call the day prior to my appointment last month, asking me to reschedule. To avoid that happening with my final appointment, last week, I went ahead and called to move my one remaining slot, so it would jive with the new space’s schedule. And today. The day before my final appointment. Lo! What should I receive, but a phonecall telling me the tech only works Tuesdays now. They didn’t have this information when I called last week?
I’m sure that for hair appointments and massage, it’s a comparative walk in the park. But my experience over the last year with laser appointments has been a royal pain-​in-​the-​butt. I work from home, so am lucky to have a more flexible schedule than most. But I couldn’t recommend starting repeat laser services with these folks when there’s such an apparent carelessness with appointments, and lack of customer consideration.

No matter how good the stylist I had was, I won’t be going back here because they sneak in a $ 25 charge in addition to any hair service you receive JUST TO BLOWDRY YOUR HAIR. I have a very short pixie cut that takes 5 minutes to blowdry. Charging 25 bucks for that when I’m already paying for a cut or a color or both is absurd. NOWHERE on the price list on their website does it state this additional charge, or I never would have come here!
I can understand if you are coming in JUST for a blowout, or if you have long curly hair and want it flat-​ironed having an additional charge for that, but I’ve never had a salon charge me for a blowdry following a cut or color. To me, this practice indicates they see their customers just as walking dollar signs.
Let’s put it this way: would you be perturbed if a restaurant charged you for tap water? Or the bread at the start of the meal? And these charges weren’t listed anywhere on the menu?
I feel sorry for the stylist I saw, because he did a good job and was very sweet, but I refuse to patronize a place with these kinds of deceptive practices.
If you’re a Douglas Carroll client, next time you get a hair cut? Ask to see your itemized list of charges. I really regret not doing this and asking to have the $ 25 taken off, but I shouldn’t have to ask to do that in the first place.
So, caveat emptor. If you don’t mind paying $ 25 extra for a blowdry every time you get your hair cut, then okay. But I think it’s absurd and am particularly galled by how they sneak it into your bill without telling you. Just a bad business practice.

Wonderful salon. Top service in the triangle. Very expensive but they won’t damage your hair like other places. Great Goldwell products. I’ve heard the massages at spa section are amazing too!
I had dyed my hair dark brown and Michele has helped me return to my natural blonde color. Other salons, such as Sam and Bills just made my hair an awful brassy orange!
Thankful for Douglas Carroll– they know what they are doing! Just gotta spend the $$$ !

I go to the spa for laser hair removal and have had a great experience. Michelle, the nurse practiioner who does the treatments, could not be nicer! She is kind, calm, and professional. I purchased a Groupon and the salon is very busy, but they were able to schedule my first appointment almost immediately and I’ve had no problems scheduling follow-​ups. I’ve been to a few salons for laser hair removal, and they don’t cut corners. They use the numbing gel but they don’t provide ice packs, so if you have a low pain tolerance you may want to bring your own. I schedule my appointments for Friday afternoon afte work and I’m usually in/​out with no troubles.
