Carl Alwin Schenck Memorial Forest

Meh. This teaching forest owned by NCSU is a mess.
No good parking, even for the Richland Creek trail that runs through it. Many areas are clear cut to raise funds for the forestry department. They have a rigid no-​dogs policy in the forest (remember the trail I just mentioned that passes through?) — second violation, you go to jail.
Umstead State Park is just up the road (again, no parking at this entrance thanks to the efforts of a developer) and a much better place to visit.
