I’ve been diving since 1982 immediately upon graduating from Purdue University with a degree in Engineering.

I had no goal when I started to become an instructor. But I asked what was next in a thirst for diving. I became open water certified in Texas. I went diving every chance I got. I now have over 1800 plus dives. I love diving Cozumel the best, with the most recent trip being my 51st visit– the best diving in the Caribbean Sea! Other Places are Belize, Roatan Honduras, Hawaii, British Virgin Islands, Bonaire, Puget Sound in Washington State, Cabo San Lucas, Gulf Coast of Texas, Coastal North Carolina, Cooper River South Carolina, Florida Springs, Windward side of Cozumel Mexico, Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. I have made a several dives in the Living Seas at Disneys Epcot Center in Florida.

My Biggest Thrill is watching the elation on new students’ faces after they realize that they can do this SCUBA thing

Both my kids were recently certified by «By the Shore Scuba». My kids are extremely busy with many activities but Kevin worked out a private schedule that allowed them not to miss a session. Kevin and Ken worked with the kids so they were 100% ready for the open water dives and I was very impressed with their knowledge and teaching skills. The equipment was always ready to go and even though I am not a diver they updated me on every session and what was covered and what the kids were going to experience. I highly recommend By the Shore Scuba instructor for anyone who wants to learn scuba or take a refresher.

I can highly recommend Kevin at By The Shore. I was really afraid to learn to scuba dive, in fact, half way through the pool dives I told Kevin I wanted to quit. He wouldn’t let me quit and encouraged me to keep going. I am so glad I did ! My open water dives were completed in Cozumel Mexico on a trip Kevin planned. I logged 13 dives on some of the best reefs on the islandl! Kevin has long standing connections so they were not standard resort dives. even a local dive master who lives in another part of Mexico chose to join us on a couple of our dives during his vacation! It was an incredible experience.. I can’t thank Kevin enough !!

Kevin at By The Shore is an outstanding SCUBA Diving Instructor. He pays close attention to your level of understanding and put you at ease in the water. Kevin knowledge about what I needed in gear was very helpful and clearly saved me money. A recommend Kevin for both SCUBA instruction and SCUBA trips.

Kevin Alexander is an excellent SCUBA instructor. He just finished certifying my 11 year old son. Throughout the training, he was deliberate and patient, keeping my son’s attention focused on the course material and ensuring that critical skills and knowledge were both learned and retained.
Kevin was also flexible about scheduling lessons and open water dives, making it as convenient as possible for my son and me.
I couldn’t recommend Kevin more highly. If you’re looking for an instructor around Raleigh, you should definitely give him a call.

I have worked with a lot of scuba instructors over the years and I have never seen anyone work more carefully and effectively with students. He uses his vast experience to relate on a 1;1 basis, even in a larger class, with the students that need the extra attention.
I will also note that his pool equipment is very high quality and in good repair. He has an uncanny ability to fit and weight a student on land so that when they get in the pool they have confidence in their equipment.

My wife and I learned to dive many many moons ago. After 14 years since our last dive we decided it was time to get under the water again.
Kevin was a great find. He is an excellent instructor. Knowing it had been so long since our last dive he took the time to review the basics before we got in the pool. Then once in the pool he was patient and made sure we were able to handle ourselves under the unique conditions you might find yourself in when diving.
The way we were introduced to Kevin was through Scouting. I was not with him during his training of around 10 boys during this past year, but they have all passed is course. We are looking forward to having our son learn from him and feel very comfortable to allow him with this important duty.
As Keane K. said Kevin is very flexible and able to adapt to your time table and make arrangements quickly or wait if need be.
I would highly recommend Kevin if you are looking for scuba diving instruction.

After years of talking about getting certified to dive I finally decided it was time before an upcoming trip to Cozumel. After doing some checking on options in the Raleigh area I was finding the same thing over and over when I called dive shops «Here is our schedule but we cannot get the open water certification done before your trip.» Most would recommend I just do a transfer and spend two days of my vacation getting it done but that meant time lost and more money spent.
Then I talked to Kevin at By the Shore and he said it was not problem and would work with me to make sure the schedule works! What a refreshing alternative. Once class work began it became clear that I had made the right choice. Kevin has nearly 30 years of dive instruction experience and is an excellent teacher. In addition he helped me get the equipment I needed at a fantastic price and made the whole process pain free!
My trip is a few days away and I am ready to go, with my open water dive certification and did it all through Kevin at By the Shore — if you are in the market to get certified, I highly recommend you do the same!
