History

Established in 2005.

Originally Studio 929, Blo started as a two chair studio in 2001. In 2005 it moved to its current location in Brier Creek Commons. In 2010 Blo expanded to become the largest hair salon in Raleigh. Blo has experienced tremendous growth in a short time due to its commitment to contributing to the personal and professional growth of its team; its contributions to our community through its wide reaching philanthropic efforts; and through consistently offering quality products and services to our guests. In 2005 Bryan Nunes opened the doors to what would become the Triangle’s premier hair salon. Blo quickly became the mecca for talented stylists eager to learn from a career hairdresser whose intense passion for his work and commitment to their success was crystal clear. «My vision for Blo was to create an environment where the personal and professional growth of the hairstylist was the primary focus,» states Bryan. «I firmly believe that happy, educated, supported stylists make for happy, educated, supported guests which, of course, is our ultimate goal. Bonnie did a great job with my pixie cut! She took her time to give me lots of texture, gave me some styling tips, and even mentioned I can stop by for a complimentary bangs touch up, which will be very helpful since my hair grows so quickly!
She was also totally nice about the fact that I had done my own hair color. I’ve had a lot of stylists be super snotty about that. Like I get that you’d rather I pay you the $ 100+ to do it, but that’s a lot of money and insulting me is not how you go about getting me to spend it! I was pleased with my dye job but dreading the snotty comments and Bonnie and a few of the other girls working there actually complimented it so that was a nice change!
One thing to keep in mind here is to bring cash for a tip, as they can’t add it on to your card (seems odd, but thankfully they gave me a heads up when I made my appointment).

I am writing this updated review because I was contacted by the owner with a very sincerely apologetic email about what happened during my visit (bad customer service and overcharging without my consent). They credited the overcharges back to my card, which was more than I had hoped for and made me feel a little better about Blo. I’m not sure if I will return, but I definitely feel less bitter thanks to the owner’s efforts. It’s good to see a business trying to make unhappy customers feel like their voices matter.

I love this salon and I love Taylor… she’s without a doubt one of the best stylists ever. Both BLO and Taylor have brought my hair back to life. It is not easy to keep super blonde hair shiny and healthy… but Taylor does work miracles ;) My hair just keeps getting healthier with each color. I will never again switch hairstylists… Taylor is the one! Go see her! A glass of Champagne while you are getting your hair cut/​colored is just one more reason I love this salon so much! An experience at BLO is worth every single penny and more. A visit with Taylor will make you question why you are just now finding her. Go see her! :)

I just called as a first-​time client to make an appointment for a cut and color. Cut would just be a trim, not changing the style at all. Color would just be going over greys with a color that matches my current color which is also my natural color.
I was told if I wanted to have my hair done there I would either have to come in for a separate «consultation» (which would of course cost an extra fee) or I’d have to take several pictures of myself and send them to them and they’d «get back to me» to schedule an appointment. I specified that I wasn’t looking to do any drastic change, and yet they still said I’d either have to come in (to give them more money) or send them my info and they’d get back to me. I asked if the email process was a separate charge and didn’t get a straight answer. I also didn’t get a straight answer on how long/​if they would get back to me after sending them pics to determine if they felt like I was worth giving them my money.
If you have unlimited time and resources and want to feel like you have to pass some sort of test for the privilege of giving them lots of your money, go for it. As for me, I think I’ll stick to salons that don’t make you jump through hoops to be a client and have people answering the phone who aren’t rude and act like they’re doing you a favor by allowing you the privilege of being one of their clients.

Blo is a trendy salon located in the Brier Creek area. The salon itself is spacious and very nice, I love how bright and open it is with all of the windows. When you enter, you check-​in and they offer you a complimentary beverage — red wine, white wine, beer, water or my personal favorite a Mimosa with a strawberry which is served on Saturdays! I think a lot of people think that this salon is a bit pricier but you get what you pay for! And, I can schedule my appointments online which is super convenient.
My stylist, Alysha, is the best! I have been coming to her for my haircuts and color since she started as a Blossom. It is amazing to see how her career has progressed! I always leave satisfied and with cute curls that I can never do myself.
I highly recommend this salon! I do not think that you can go wrong with any of the stylists, they all receive training to stay up-​to-​date with the latest techniques, they love where they work and they are passionate about what they do!
One last thing, bring cash for the tip. They also have an ATM incase you forget.

This place is great! I went to this salon for a corrective cut that was unevenly cut by another salon. They did an amazing job with my hair and Blair was able to keep the length I wanted! After she cut my hair she taught me how to curl it and what products were best for my hair type. She did not try to just sell me products but instead educated me and only recommended what worked for my budget! She was amazing and I am definitely going back to blo for my hair needs!

Kind staff, OK cut, but definitely not the one I asked for. I gave the stylist a picture, which is far better than a description… and she simply didn’t deliver. I blame myself for trying something new with a stylist I have never used before, but I just moved to the area and desperately needed a haircut before a meeting. Will need to spend the next few days figuring out how to style it in a way that doesn’t make me look like I am 25 years older than I am.

When I moved back to Raleigh almost 2 years ago I desperately needed to find a salon to handle my unruly locks. Blo was the first salon to accommodate my needs and I’ve been going back ever since!
Blo is a hip salon in Brier Creek with a professional staff and fun atmosphere. The salon is spacious and the entire staff from the front desk to the stylists are always very accommodating. When you first arrive they check you in and offer you a drink; soda, water, tea, wine– when I’ve had early appointments on the weekend they even had mimosas set out! I love that the stylists can wear what they want– everyone always looks super cute and trendy and you can really get a feel for their personalities. It may sound silly, but it’s reassuring when you dig your hair dresser’s personal style.
My girl Alysha is a color queen! I’m always open to her suggestions and ideas and she has a good understanding of what looks I’m in to. I have long, thick hair so working on my head is pretty time consuming. Alysha always does a phenomenal job. I wish I had the patience to blow-​out my hair the way she does because it looks damn good when she’s done with me! Another thing to note is that if you’re not happy with the way your color/​cut turned out, they will go above & beyond to fix it to your liking.
I highly recommend Blo if you’re looking for a salon in the North Raleigh area!

Love love love!!! Blo is a classy, beautiful salon filled with talent. The customer service and hospitality was amazing. Not to mention the haircut itself…
I just moved to Raleigh a few weeks ago, so I was definitely on the hunt for «my» new salon. Moving to a completely new area I felt paranoid I would go somewhere with high hopes and come out with a mullet. So naturally I googled salons near me, Blo was the first to pop up with excellent reviews.
I scheduled an appointment with Ashley and she was amazing. Excellent haircut, really listened to what I wanted and she was very friendly. Definitely will be making another appointment with her in a few months.
From the call to schedule my appointment, to paying my bill reception has been more than competent and hospitable. The customer service here truly is top notch which is very hard to find nowadays.
Oh and the salon is absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful contemporary, clean, very upscale. (And the shampoo chairs are massage chairs!!)
If you are looking for a new salon definitely check out Blo!

Took my little girl, 8, to get a hair cut after school. First let me explain that this girl has some crazy hair. It is super curly on the bottom and straight on the top, and to top it all off, it has got to be the thickest head of hair you will see. And then if that all weren’t cruel enough, she is super SUPER tender headed. So we all head into Blo right after school ready for a change. My little one is nervous about the cut because: a.) she «doesn’t want to look like a boy» and b.) she hates getting her hair washed at most places because the sink hurts her neck. I am a little nervous about being a walk-​in and getting in because it is 4:30. They get us right in, no problem! After a 10 minute wait (again at 4:30 so the torture could have been way worse), this sweet lady, whose name has escaped me, comes to get Kyra, my girl, and introduces herself. She takes her to her station and finds out what we want and need and even asks Kyra about her opinion and worries. After reassuring Kyra that the sink will not only be painless but she will also get a massage, they head to the sink for the wash. Kyra was nothing but smiles. Now for the cut… she was so gentle with Kyra, who I remind you is the most tender headed 8 year old you will ever meet, and after cutting section after section after section. after section, a little tag team blow drying, and more cutting Kyra came out with a smile on her face, saying «thank you! I feel like a new girl!!» As we walk out to the car, she runs her tiny fingers through her hair saying, «we can only come here from now on». So thank you to the ladies at Blo. We will be back!

Bonnie does a terrific haircut — best I’ve ever had with my short hair. I’ve recommended her to others with short hair and they are equally pleased. The owner does a great job with continuing education for his staff, and turnover has decreased tremendously over the last two years. Others I know get their color done there, and it looks wonderful.
I agree with the others that the prices ARE high. But for me, it’s worth it when my hair looks this good, every single time.

My very first visit was a few months ago just to give Blo a try, so I went in for a trim and got it done by Kimberley. She did wonderful! The service and staff just made a great impression so I knew I had to come back for my next cut.
Let me back track a little bit, so I’ve had long hair for the past 3 years, and have been itching to get an a-​line bob again ever since this summer started. I kept pushing back on making reservations, but just gave them a call one afternoon, in hopes that someone would be available to cut my hair that evening, and if there wasn’t anyone available, I wouldn’t be disappointed, being that it was so last minute. I remembered my last cut with Kimberley, but she was booked up. However, Blair was available, so I went ahead and booked.
It was my first time getting my haircut by Blair, but her confidence and bubbly personality made me feel like I could really trust this girl. And let me just say: she did an AMAZING job. I absolutely love my cut! 5-​stars for flexibility and service, and I wish I could give another 5-​stars for the awesome cut!
I’ll be back again!

I will not go anywhere else now! Have gotten great haircuts here several times. I made the mistake of «cheating on» Blo with a place closer to my home downtown and learned my lesson! Recently I trusted Blo with my first ever hair dye. I wanted an ombré style and the receptionist recommended Ariel. She gave me the best cut and color ever! I have gotten so many compliments in the last few days! She made sure she understood exactly what I wanted, suggested things that she thought would look good and it turned out better than I could expect. If you want ombré see Ariel!

This salon is located in a busy shopping center where parking can often be a challenge. Walking into the salon its very modern and clean. The hostess will greet you and on your first visit require that you sign a form to agree by their guidelines. This was the first time I’ve ever had to sing anything at a salon, it felt odd, but I did my first time several months ago. I can’t remember the wording exactly but it does mention if you cancel within «x» amount of hours prior or you are more than «x» minutes late you will be charged… ironically the first time I went last year, I waited over 20 minutes before I was taken back.
I actually came to this salon because a friend had recommended Adrienne. I have been to Adrienne several times, she is great, very personable and professional. She will not only listen to you wants/​needs/​concerns about your hair but also make suggestions on color/​trends/​styles etc.
The reason I give it 2 stars is because I’m not impressed with the operations of the salon. I haven’t experienced having to wait up to 4 + weeks of a hair cut at any other salon. One time I asked to be put on the waiting list and specified that I would be available for cancelations but not one particular weekend because I was traveling out of town, then I was called about three appointments during that time frame. The salon does not allow you to leave a tip on the card, but nowhere on the website does it say that information. Be sure to bring cash for tips, otherwise the stylist will probably think you hated your service. Another visit several months ago there a lady behind the host desk was talking on her personal cell phone about plans that night, she finished the conversation before asking if she could help me.

This is the best place, not just salon, but place ever. The smiling faces, welcoming attitudes, and abundance of talent make it very special. I can say every staff member there is committed to excellence in both their craft and providing the optimum experience for the guest. Wow. After going to Blo for 2 years, I took a two year hiatus since I was having a baby and trying to cut expenses. So, I wanted to now start going again. I called to make an appointment and they insisted I must first come in for a consultation. I understand they want to see my hair and want to prepare for my services but I explained there is no way I can come unless it’s right before my appointment. I have a 2 year old and 2 other kids, my husband works and I stay home. The only time I can even squeeze in a hair cut is a Sunday (which is why I wanted to come back to Blo). THEY REFUSED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH ME! I told the receptionist that my hair is the same as it was 2 years ago… she checked with the stylist and called me back to say, «No, Sorry, we can’t take you». I’m in shock! I’ve referred 3 friends to this place and this is how I’m treated. Oh well, NEXT!

We tried out Blo based on Unilocal reviews and from a friend’s reference.
We were met by friendly staff, who promptly offered us a complimentary beverage and coordinated my walk-​in appointment. I was assigned to Evan and I recommend him very highly.
The staff felt he was the best to clean up my split ends and lopsided layers, and they were spot on! He listened while I told him my thoughts and then provided his opinion on how best to handle the layers (while I am sipping my wine still, mind you).
The shampoo chairs had massage rollers in them, so while you get a Redkin shampoo and condition, you also relax completely!
Though he wasn’t pushy about it, when asked, Evan answered my every question about the products he used and how to do both day and night styles with shine or spray in hand.
During this time my husband was also offered a drink (they only serve Yuengling beer, but he was happy all the same!) and last minute decided to get his hair cut too. Ashley did a wonderful fade for him and he was pleased with her thoughts on how to «dress it up.»
Summary: cuts were $ 33.00 per person, but we were both thrilled with the styles we got, the complimentary drinks, but most especially the quality of the service that Evan and Ashley ensured. We both recommend this salon to anyone needing quality cut and care!
