History

Established in 1900.

Rasmussen Diamonds is a family owned and opperated full service jewelry store. We began in Racine in the 900 block of State St. In the mid 60’s the store and the original cases were moved to 3119 Washington Ave in Racine. In 1977 the original founder’s son, Frank, sold the business to his watchmaker Calvin Sustachek. Cal brought in his son Bill to manage the business and in 1988, Bill and his wife Kathy bought the business. In 1998, the store and the original cases were moved to the current location at 6220 Washington Ave. Family has always been important to the Rasmussen name and the Sustacheks continue that family tradition. Currently 6 of the 11 employees are family. Rasmussen Diamonds has always been an industry leader in education and technology. We have 2 Certified Gemologist Appraisers on staff. We were the first retail jeweler in the world to aquire the ASET Cut grading technology from the American Gem Society. For more details, please visit our website.

Meet the Business Owner

Joel H.

Business Owner

Joel joined the Rasmussen Diamonds family in August of 2000. After some time in managed services and the automotive industry, Joel finally found his calling in gemology. In just 2 short years, Joel attained the title of Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America and the prestigious Certified Gemologist Appraiser title from the American Gem Society. At this time, there are approximately 400 CGAs worldwide.

After a Retirement Sale in 2011, Joel’s in-​laws Bill and Kathy Sustachek passed the torch and sold the store to Joel.

Outside of the store, Joel has a love and passion for all things culinary and enjoys preparing anything from an intimate dinner for 2 to a Holiday feast for 40. He is active in Rotary and the hunger awareness charity, «Share our Strength». Joel loves to travel and keeps close tabs on the world of soccer. Joel is married to Kori and they have 2 daughters, Indiana and Keira
