History
Established in 1992.
Featured in the Improper Bostonian as one of Boston’s best restaurants, Sepal erupted into the restaurant dining industry in Watertown, Massachusetts in 1992, where it started as a small shop that then transformed into a Mediterranean restaurant, seating a total of 62. It was praised amongst locals for its falafel sandwich, which was rated the number one sandwich in 2002 by PBS’s «Sandwiches That You Will Like.» In 2002, despite its popularity, owner Walid Masoud decided to take Sepal in a new direction, altering the traditional, sit-down restaurant to a fast-food chain, all while maintaining the taste, quality and freshness of the food.
Since the first opening of the authentic fast-food chain in MIT, Sepal has opened in multiple locations in the greater Boston area. Sepal has now opened in Quincy, introducing members of this community to a novel and authentic Middle Eastern eatery.
Meet the Business Owner
Walid M.
Business Owner
Originally from Palestine, Walid Masoud came to Boston to attend university. While studying in Boston, he noticed the scarcity of places that offered an authentic and quality Middle Eastern meal. His deep love for Boston paired with his desire to provide others with a fresh and delicious Middle Eastern meal enabled him to open Sepal’s first location in Watertown, Massachusetts in 1992.
Walid managed to turn what was once his dream into a diner’s reality, by giving everyone a chance to try the «fabulous falafel,» voted the number one sandwich in the United States and featured in PBS’s «Sandwiches That You Will Like.» The recipe for Sepal’s famous falafel came from Walid’s mother who had safeguarded it for more than 60 years. Walid has perfected the falafel, whether it be fried or baked.
Walid has many hopes for the future of Sepal. He continues to work towards his goal to influence other fast-food providers to offer healthier menu options, as he has successfully done at Sepal.
