Do NOT use. DANGER to your WALLET and HOUSE! This company appeared to have done a GREAT job in the beginning. Project was moderately on time. In ²⁰⁰⁸⁄₂₀₀₉ we had the entire second floor of our house gutted and dormered and a new bathroom added. Additionally, we had new fiber cement siding and asphalt shingles put on as well. We did not have them complete the trim work, painting, and small finish work as we would rather do that ourselves (and we are better at it).
All was great at first. UNTIL problems started showing up slowly but surely. These problems were 100% preventable with a little more care and attention to detail. Also as a side note… we are both very handy and understand the need for quality construction and materials.
#1: The guys who installed the bathroom floors nailed the new bathroom floorboards THROUGH the sink wastewater pipe. This wasn’t discovered until about two years ago when the nail finally rusted and caused a shower of water into our 1^st floor bathroom. Cost of repair: $ 2000
#2: A section of our roof material has come apart and has exposed the roof and flashing. cost of repair: $ 100
#3: THE KICKER: The beautifully tiled second floor bathroom shower was not installed correctly — improper backer board and no waterproofing layer. About 3 years ago the grout started to crack between all of the tiles (warning sign!) and a dark green stain appeared on the floor and about 4 inches up the sides of the shower (it would NOT come off). The threshold tile cracked in two places as well. One wall of the shower had some movement when pressed gently — likely the reason for the cracking! Called the company and Tom said it was because WE didn’t caulk the corners and that we should have put granite thresholds down (shouldn’t THEY have caulked? And… we WOULD have put granite down if he had recommended it!). He also took no responsibility for problem #1 above and wouldn’t cover any of the costs or fix any of it. He also indicated that the green color was from mold because of not cleaning the grout. AHEM. I am a clean/​neat freak and have a cleaning service every 2 weeks in addition to my regular cleaning.
So we caulked all of the corners and put a grout sealant on everything and even dug out some of the old grout and replaced it. After 2 years of struggling with bubbling paint near the edges of the shower and the disgusting stained, cracked grout, we finally cut holes in the wall and found ALL of the backerboard soggy and moldy. Had to tear out the WHOLE shower after only 5 years of use.
Cost of repair: $ 5000
#4 Azek trim was nailed with the incorrect nails that weren’t even countersunk and filled — they rusted and stained the white trim. We spent the summer sinking and filling the holes and painting all of the trim. cost of repair: $ 200 and a LOT of personal time.
