The Olympic Timberhouse Restaurant

A gem to find. My wife and I split a burger and a salad after a hike. Friendly service, juicy black and blue burger with great flavor. We’ll be back. Got to give it a try if you’re near Quilcene.

We ate here during our week-​long vacation at a cabin near Quilcene. The restaurant is rustic and cozy and the service was good. The lady I spoke with earlier in the day when I made the reservation remembered me and came over to say hello. My husband had the prime rib (which apparently sometimes runs out on Fri and Sat nights so you have to «reserve» your prime rib too! :-) which was excellent. I had the seafood linguine, which was OK but not spectacular. The crab dip, though, was excellent and the chewy garlic sourdough baguette that came with it was also very good. Desserts are homemade and were also yummy. We would definitely eat here again!

It is a tossup which was worse, the service or the food.
Party of 3, the waitress brought part of the order for two. No knives, forks or NAPKINS. I got up and got them myself. When the third order was served it included French Fries. The excess grease could have lubricated a semi. The“beef” was interesting, stringy and tasteless.
The signature dishes were not much better.
It is not a restaurant that would warrant a dedicated trip. It gets a captive audience traveling on #101.
It is well appointed and charming decorations. The looks are deceiving. The staff were either understaffed or the cook had evacuated the premises.
I could go on but it is irritating.

Absolutely delicious food (pulled pork sandwich special and Mount Walker burger)! You can see the owner takes great care in adding personal details and in maintaining the beautiful woodwork. I definitely recommend!

It’s difficult to let others know about our favorite dining experience on the peninsula, but in regards for the owners, who defiantly strive to make your experience one to remember, this is a hidden gem of a restaurant. We enjoyed another great dining experience today as we were out on a drive over to Brennon. Elk Medalions were absolutely delicious in fact all the meal, as well as desert was prepared perfectly. Now this is only part of the attraction as the Timberhouse itself is 100% North West. No chrome or stainless, just historical timber framing in a beautiful setting, and Olympic Penninsula memories throughout. A hidden NW Treasure just outside Quilcene WA.

No wonder this restaurant is profiled in Eating Up the West Coast, a great book we found on the mantle of the fireplace in the restaurant. We just liked the looks of the restaurant on our way back from Falls View waterfall (also a wonderful experience, thanks to the short walk!) and stopped in on a Sunday for lunch.
From the forest lodge looks, we expected more traditional cooking and were very pleasantly surprised to find expert nouvelle preparation. The Shrimp Louie was as beautiful looking as it tasted, the mussels were divine, and the onion rings handmade and generous. Natalie also dished up perfect-​pitch friendly and attentive service.
I would venture back across the Sound just to get to eat here again.

I have to caveat this review and break it into sections because some elements were VERY good.
Atmosphere — Four and a half stars, wonderful timber building with woodsy décor, fireplaces and timber tables. Would have liked soft music instead of birds chirping but all in all a beautiful place.
Food — Four stars. Aside from the salmon being a bit overcooked and the sparse vegetables (we love our veggies) the food was very good and presented nicely. While I felt the food was a bit overpriced it was good.
Service — One star. I have never been to a restaurant of this caliber and seen such a disorganized staff. It seemed they were, using an old military term, «milling about sharply.» Which means look busy and don’t worry about getting anything done. I made the comment that the owners possibly bought the business and hired all their friends to help. They were literally at our table four times all night: 1) Drink orders 2) Delivered drinks and took order (Long pause) 3) delivered food (another long pause) 4) brought the check (after we asked).
So while the atmosphere and food were very good the service was equally bad, averaging those scores end up with three.

Really amazed to have come across a fine restaurant along this long-​empty stretch of 101. Very clean with beautiful wood furnishings. My son commented it was one of the better burgers he’s ever had and my clam chowder was as good as it comes. Salad spring greens were very fresh. We visited on a Sunday mid afternoon… as an FYI we sat near the entrance and overheard the staff taking a lot of reservations over phone for dinner… I imagine this place fills up.

Clean, delicious and consistent. The waitresses are all lovely and welcoming, and the owners are absolutely the most delightful, and kind people I’ve ever met. The head chef is brilliant and makes everything himself and during the down time, walls and floors are scrubbed and ovens and coolers are sanitized. Truly the cleanest restaurant I’ve ever seen. The Olympic Timberhouse is a true pearl of the peninsula.

have eaten there several times now, my meals have always been well prepared, attractively presented and pleasantly served by courteous and helpful wait staff. highly recommend if in the area, never have i seen an unhappy diner during my visits.
in addition, had a flat tire late one night after closing hours. no issues leaving my vehicle over night (even without a note on it) when calling the next day very understanding about vehicle being on premises until able to return.

Timber House in Quilcene is well worth the «PEARL in the Peninsula».
A rare find in the middle of a very small town and well worth the stop if you are hungry for a great steak or even just a burger. My number one all time favorite burger is the Timber House, with homemade BBQ sauce just the right amount (I ask for more on the side for dipping my fries).
One word YUMMMY!

This place was 5 plus stars great food had a wonderful lunch great all around a little expensive but the best Reubens in the world. Great food great atmosphere great service a+++++ we will be back

We rode in on our motorcycles July 15^th after 2:00. I was quite surprised that such a highly rated restaurant had only two tables. It is a really neat restaurant with unique furnishings and décor and worth a visit just for the special nature of the logging themed restaurant. The service was friendly, even outgoing and the food was quite good. I would definitely go there again but I’m from out of town so I won’t.

Just had an excellent meal here! Our dishes consisted of: pork medallions, fish and chips, razor clams and grilled prawns. Highly recommend this restaurant.

If it was anywhere closer I’d be there often. Even the bathroom is interesting with all the fishing rods and fishing tackle. I had the lumberjack pie and strongly recommend it. We also tried the salmon burger but not going to try that again. A few of the tables are slices of huge cedar trees and look amazing. It’s gorgeous and great food.

What an quaint and amazing place to have a meal. Birds chirping and Frank Sinatra crooning in over the speakers. The extreme attention to detail, logging décor, dark varnished cribbage board in the presidents room. Hunting dogs and mallard oil paintings set the scene. I want to drink fancy bourbon here, with gruff locals, talking about tales gone by, sitting by the fire as the rain pounds the double pained windows and the evening casts its grey shadow on the very knotty pine décor. This is a transformation into the Twin Peaks mind, they serve food. We had lunch. It was on a whim. A magical Pacific North West on the Peninsula after a hard weekend of camping whim. Go here, Be present. Enjoy the taxidermy.

Tonight was our first visit to the Olympic Timber House and there will be many more. The owners and staff were pleasant. The décor is a log cabin feel, warm, candle lit. Beautiful wood table tops. We started with a delicious cup of coffee followed by the best mussels I’ve had. The mussels and oysters were local and fresh. Coleslaw was delicious as well as the blackened prime rib sandwich. Next time, I will start with dessert as there is an apple bread pudding with Jack Daniels and caramel sauce that I left absolutely no room to enjoy. Highly recommend for a relaxing, delicious meal.

*Just a classic old building with solid fare, we had the clams and fish and chips both very good
*Prime Rib nights on the weekends and a good array of local seafood dishes too
*They def put a lot of time and thought into the kitchshy décor, the place was really cool

I love this place! Been here a few times and every time the whole place is empty. The waiters/​waitresses are so friendly and there is some of the fastest service I have ever had.
Setting: Big log tables, photographs of the olympic mountains, nature sounds in background, lights are dim.
Food: Anything on the appetizers and sandwich section is reasonable and delicious. I would definitely recommend the homemade onion rings! Dessert was the best part. Their bread pudding is the best I’ve had.
This is a great place to go to after doing a hike in the olympics.

Wonderful food, fresh and local. If you been hiking or riding all day on the Olympic peninsula and pass through quilcene then you must stop at the timber house for some bomb diggity food. Pan fried trout and chips was to die for, the gorganzola blue cheese bacon burger was epic as well.
Such a beautiful restaurant too, well taken care of, just like their food and customers. We will be regulars for sure and can’t wait to end another fun adventure at the timber house :)
