CFR Mechanical Air Conditioning Service

Recently, we woke up Saturday morning to find one of our a/​c units had stopped working. Not having personal knowledge of a good company to call, we looked online and found CFR Mechanical. We called about 7:30am on Saturday morning. By 9:00am, the owner, Chris, arrived to trouble shoot our system. Chris was very professional and was able to fix our unit in a short amount of time. There was no high pressure sales pitch to perform unnecessary work. I found Chris to be trustworthy and reliable. I would highly recommend CFR Mechanical!

I wanted to write a review about their great service but unfortunately haven’t had a chance. First lets start on a tangent background story here, it started in early June actually, my lower A/​C unit to my house was not turning on so I had the guy who handle my business A/​C look and he has always done things in exchange as a client or as a favor. He came and to his credit spent an hour or more trying to find what was wrong with it, he could not detect the problem so he loaded it with Freon and we waited to see what happened. 2 days later it stop working again, this time his partner came over with him and took a quick look around and they loaded more Freon and declared I would need to replace the coil and the compressor, he even said it would be wise to replace the working upstairs coil also at the same time because of rust. I trusted him so I said fine until I saw their quote. Wow, that is like a small car! so I said I would need more quotes and opinion before that large of investment.
I got several quotes and opinions and most looked at the units inside out. Finally, I got a decent quote but luckily decided the check out CFR. I just liked that it seems like a small family business type. I called and unfortunately the owner was out of town but was given a number to call and got Dustin (his son) on the phone. He took down my information and gave me a quote like the others but he said, hey I could possibly fix the problem if I can find it. I was tired of having people come over and look around and take up 2 hrs of my time. I liked him and his quote which was much lower than the rest so I felt like I wanted him to do it, but at least like to see who was coming over so we set a time. He came with his buddy/​partner (sorry forgot his name) and at first they looked like high school kids, and I was shocked to say the least. I showed them the unit and they looked around went upstairs into the attic and then started getting their spray out and their detectors and did a careful check to find out there is a leak outside right off the compressor. No one else did anything close to that, most just try looking with their flashlights, so they soldered it and reloaded the Freon to full and tested it and ran it. Now this was at 5:30 PM and they had just gotten off another job and they were not planning to fix it right then, but his buddy went and got the Freon and he started all the prep work and vacuuming of the system and were there till 8:00 PM and they saved me 70%. Hey they could have said, yeah it is the compressor and coil and would have made easy money because I had already committed to them for that and got a quote too, but they did what was needed and for that, I am never going anywhere else. I really value integrity in my business and I appreciate it when I find other people that do the same.
That is not the end to this story, I was on vacation a couple of weeks later and wouldn’t you know it, my mother who has a rental unit A/​C went out. It was a Sunday and CFR was not open, so I had to call George Brazil which went there and said I needed to have a new compressor if not a whole new system for a small mortgage. I decided that I would rather pay for the tenant to stay at a hotel and get Dustin and CFR on the job on Monday. He got me in and at least the diagnosis was right, the unit did need a new compressor, but he quoted me a whole system also so I inquired why. Apparently the tenant said they wanted a quote for a new system, so he thought that was what I wanted, but once I texted him, he said no you do not need a new system and gave me a quote for just the compressor. He and his buddy got it the next day and put it in after 6:00 PM for the tenant and on top of that he and his buddy had an all night job replacing duct work at a Walgreens right after they finished.
I have dealt with a lot of A/​C companies and all of them including the highly rated Dukes of Air all seem to try and sell you something else. They love to put the gloom and doom scenarios out there and charge you up the wazoo for it. I still trust my business A/​C guy and I feel like he was pressured by his partner but from now on, CFR will have all my business, personal and business. I hope they don’t change, seems like they are great kids with great integrity. I really have never met the dad, but Dustin is a stand up guy and you need to check them out, don’t follow the Unilocal crowd, because it has never gotten me anyone great. These guys have gotten hardly any reviews so I hope this one helps.

After reading the previous reviews on CFR Mechanical I decided to give them a call. I was able to get someone out to look at my AC in about two hrs which was pretty impressive given the short notice on a Friday before a 3 day holiday weekend. They were able to get my AC issue fixed on the same visit (another plus). Although the price was a little higher than I was anticipating it was close enough to where I felt it was fair. I can honestly say it was refreshing to not get a sales pitch from the technician. Before leaving he gave me a rundown covering the overall condition of the unit. I will definitely use them again in the future. Thank you Matt S. and Paul C. your two reviews were spot on.

AC went out last night, called at 6am and the owners son and his assistant were at the house by 8:30am. They were professional and identified the issue in about 30 seconds and explained right there in front of the unit. I was afraid of at least spending $ 500 for a motor. Nope, only needed a capacitor which is much cheaper. They also replaced another small worn part and charged up the AC. I was relieved at the final price. Highly recommended. Use this local company and avoid the big expensive companies. Oh, the AC was blowing ice cold within 10 minutes!

I hate hiring people for stuff I don’t know anything about. It could be $ 1 problem, or it really could be that $ 1,000 problem they are trying to tell me it is. Either way, I’d have no clue. This is how I felt forever with my air conditioning unit. I went through 2 other companies until I found Chris Cole, owner of CFR Mechanical. Found out from Chris that both the other companies were trying to take me for all they could. Chris is an honest man and he explains exactly what is wrong with your AC UNITs and what isn’t. He also shared some tricks that competitors do to your Units to keep coming back year after year.
I will use CFR Mechanical & Chris for all my HVAC and electrical needs from now on. He is honest, on time and does what he says he’s gonna do. Also very affordable.
