Volkswagen of Puyallup

Decided I wanted to check out a Golf R today and did a search online. I knew they were popular cars, but didn’t realize quite how popular they’ve been. I get the idea they don’t last very long on the lot. Ended up coming here because they’re open until 8pm on Saturdays, where the other area VW dealers close at 7. Headed here after work and showed up around 7:30.
Ended up working with Seva who told me he’s only been in the business about a month. Sometimes working with a newer salesperson can be a good thing. I sell cars myself and have seen plenty of new sales people try to pretend to know more than they do. Seva comes across as a genuine, helpful person. He had good knowledge for only being at VW a month, and when he didn’t know the answer to something he admitted it.
Test drove a brand new Golf R and decided I wanted it. I told Seva the deal would basically come down to what they’d give me for my Subaru STI. I had what I thought was a very fair number in mind… but figured they’d come back two to three thousand lower than that. As it happened they offered exactly the number I had in mind. I guess I could have asked for a little more… but was really appreciative of the straight forward and fair offer right off the bat.
Also important to note… they don’t «second sticker» their cars. I’d say more than half of all dealerships put window etching, or door edge guards, or some other stuff and then try to force a few hundred extra $‘s on you. The whole process was super smooth and easy.
Laura, the finance manager, was great as well. Definitely informative about the different service and warranty options, but not super pushy like some finance managers can be.
I overheard another salesman and sales manager interacting with another customer. The customer admitted she was being offered a great deal… but just had to sleep on the decision. They went over the details again with her and made sure she didn’t have any other questions. They weren’t condescending or rude in any way when she ultimately left without buying.
Overall I had a great experience here. They’ve got a nice, new showroom. I’d definitely feel comfortable recommending them to friends. Seva was great and worth asking for if you visit. Now I’m hoping the car will be just as great as the experience!

Last night my Boyfriend and I went car shopping. After driving a Focus and a Soul, we drove a Golf. I instantly loved it (obviously).
I stated to Leonce our sales guy; I want to order a new car and pick it up immediately upon delivery. I have my reasons but mainly I don’t want a car that others have sat/​sneezed/​farted in. — Especially after Leonce had made comments about the pent up microsoft guys always thrashing the new cars on test drives. (I’m a firm believer in proper engine break-​ins.)
We get to talking and Leonce talks to Alan his sales manager and they offer to drop the price on the car we test drove if they don’t have to order one, I tell him I’m seriously considering the deal but I want to come back in the morning to inspect the car since I’m unwilling to accept a car that has any imperfections. He offers to open up the well lit inspection bay so I agree.
Low and behold; I find a nickel sized dent on the trailing edge of the c-​pillar (wtf? #1). I look at it pretty carefully and decide its probably not a candidate for paintless dent removal becase of its location.
I tell Leonce we’re not buying this car and I want to order the car like I originally stated.
Leonce goes and tells Alan about the situation and Alan frustratedly walks over to us and starts scolding us (wtf? #2), telling us that the dent isn’t a big deal and that it will only cost him $ 35 bucks to have it fixed and we will never know it happened (wtf? #3)
He also mentions that they do this all the time (wtf? #4) and no one ever knows (wtf? #5). He states that my expectation of getting a car without any imperfections is unrealistic (wtf #6) and tries the approach of arguing with me over fixing the dent (wtf #7). I tell him that I think maybe I didn’t make myself clear and that I’m not going to buy any car that has a dent or has had a dent.
Alan asks if they can find a car locally that is flawless if we’d be willing to take a look at it. As opposed to ordering. I tell him if I was able to inspect the car and found it satisfactory that I would definitely consider it.
To my surprise he then takes a confrontational tone (wtf? #8) and asks «Well what are you gonna do if we order one and it also comes in with a dent?» I state that we won’t be buying any car that requires repair. He goes off in this long angered dissertation (wtf #9) about all the things that can go wrong in the process of the car being shipped to them. I patiently tell him I totally understand what he is saying and tell him I understand he has a very limited control over how the car will come in but I am firm on wanting a car which has no imperfections. He again makes his distain for my position clear by walking (more like stomping) away into his office without saying anything leaving my Boyfriend, Leonce and I standing there confused (wtf #10)
At this point I’m barely maintaining my composure and confused about what is happening. Is this Alan’s way of saying they don’t want to do business? Is he done talking to us? Is he angry and needs to cool off? I decide I don’t care and I’m tired of the confrontation and rude attitude.
I tell Leonce that I can’t handle the way we’re being treated and that we’re gonna walk. Alan yells from his desk in a childish tone (wtf? #11) «I’m looking for the car you want, right now…»
I look back at Leonce and tell him it’s just not gonna happen.
He chases after us out the door and profusely apologizes and says he doesn’t blame us for walking out and states that Alan «gets like that sometimes» (wtf #12).
We shake hands with him and tell him he did an excellent job and tell him we really wanted to do business with him but we’re not going to do business with a place that treats people this way. He encourages us to come back tomorrow when the real sales manager is in (wtf? #13)
I barely slept last night, I keep replaying the situation in my mind wondering what I could’ve possibly done/​said that warranted the response we got. I guess refusing to buy a dented car is a mortal sin at Puyallup VW?

Went there in a past. I hope things has changed. they have lied to me over the phone how much I can buy s model Jetta for. I got there and their story has changed. stay away from this place. they are crooks

I brought my high mile Jetta into have a problem diagnosed. After them taking a look at it they told me a sensor was out. It had been dying at times and I was concerned I would get stranded. I have limited income so I thought I would take it to the dealer so they could get right to the problem and solve it. $ 550.00 later, I went in to pick it up, excited to have it fixed when much to my surprise, it hadn’t been fixed. I corresponded with the GM and was told the initial problem was fixed but I would need to spend another $ 600.00 for a tune up to fix it completely.
I feel like my concerns regarding this were not heard and I was dismissed as a «stupid women».
I will continue to use Auburn VW and purchase my next Jetta from them as my experience with them has been much better.

So let me start out by saying I have leased 4 Volkswagens and one Audi since the year 2001. All of the Volkswagen dealerships I have been to have been out of the state and the experiences have been wonderful which is the main reason I have been a loyal customer. I decided to try another dealership in South King County for a service apt. and I was treated like trash. I almost decided to walk away from Volkswagen because I didn’t feel like driving to Seattle to find another dealership. I have personally worked in boutique customer service for 15 years and I originally gave Volkswagen my business because of their branding and service.
I decided to go and try Volkswagen of Puyallup for a recall on my car and WOW… I was greeted within 30 seconds, the door was opened for me by a nice gentleman, Jen in the service department was amazing, and I ended up leasing a 2016 Golf Sportwagen from Ed. My lease ended on my Passat and I was very nervous (because of the experience I had at a nearby dealership) but Ed made everything easy and respected me as a customer. I also have to add Mr. Yi in finance was such a pleasure to work with!!! The process was so fast, warm, and I felt valued. This is the service I expected and Volkswagen of Puyallup made it happen. Thank you for making me so happy!!!

A week after I purchased my used 2010 Touareg, a brake light went out, and they changed it free of charge, which I think was warranted. But when I wanted to change out my headlamp bulbs due to poor illumination, I was told that «you can’t work on a Volkswagen yourself, that’s just not how they’re designed». I was told it would be 90 minutes of shop time and $ 100 to change two bulbs. I did it myself in 30 minutes, after watching a YouTube video. Shame on them. Is it that typical treatment of a female in regards to car maintenance? I’m not sure, but it’s really not acceptable. I will do my future VW care at Auburn VW.

I recently moved up here and have had nothing but great things to say about VW of Puyallup. I’ve had an oil change with them in April and now recently in December. Both times the service was very quick (less than 2 hours) and they always offered me a ride anywhere I needed to go. The previous dealership I used was full of crooks and I always felt like they were trying to scam me. There was always something that needed to be «replaced» each time I took my car in. When I would get a second opinion, they would state that nothing was wrong. Now that I’ve experienced service at VW of Puyallup, my outlook has changed. Thanks for being so trustworthy and not just a bunch of salesmen!

Went there expecting to be haggled by car salesman. Instead was greeted by a nice gentleman who did not rush the process. Colton helped me out so much by taking in my car at a great trade value (based on kbb) and then I got a brand new dodge neon! Love it

I can only rate them based on one trip to the service department. I came in for the fuse campaign. I actually received notification from the VW dealer I bought the car from 5 years ago. For the second time in a row, when I tried to schedule with that dealer I ended up on hold for a very long time before giving up. I gave VW of Puyallup a call and they got me right in. They were very professional, the dealership looks great, and they got me in and out. I was pleasantly surprised that they did an inspection and washed it for free. The free coffee and wifi also allowed me to do some work while I waited. (Yes, I know that is standard these days but think it is worth mentioning since places don’t have to do this for service customers.) Little things like that make a difference. I have been doing my own maintenance lately but will definitely call VW of Puyallup, instead of the selling dealer, if I need work done or decide to buy a new car.

Horrible service. I told them to do certain things and they didn’t do any of them. Not very sharp people.

I was very surprised to see so many positive reviews!
My daughter and I had a boring April day. We decided to go test drive a new Jetta. After all, we would receive a $ 25 gift card. Just to do a test drive! That was all the excuse we needed.
The test drive turned into a lease for me.
The next day my daughters test drive turned into a purchase.
Here it is, six months and three phone calls later, and still no gift card. False advertising much?
Okay so may seem petty for just one star, but wait! There’s more!
After losing my third Bluetooth, I discovered a hole in the drivers side door panel. The area that allows for storage? Most refer to it as a cubby.
I called to find out if I could get the piece that would close this up and was told to make an appointment to come in because they had no clue what I was talking about. So I did.
The person who checked me in looked at the door, and was surprised to find what I call «the wide open». He couldn’t for the life of him figure out why that gap was there. He then proceeded to try and convince me that there was no issue. «It’s an umbrella holder» was his final insult.
Yeaaaaah. Okay well this little lady decided to just mosey along. I stopped to use their fabulously clean ladies room just to make sure someone had not written «stupid woman talk down to me» on my forehead while I wasn’t looking
A few weeks later we were alerted that something was wrong with the car and that we needed to take it to the dealership immediately. I called, and was asked if the warning light was on.
No… It turned off. But VW alerted… Sorry. No light, we can’t do anything. Lovely. I described the picture on the dash… Just to get some reassurance that I wouldn’t get blown up driving down the road… Sorry. Until it’s on can’t do anything. Didn’t even want to answer what it could have been about after I described the figure that was lit up, or connect me with anyone who could.
I’m still waiting for info from manufacturer on the door. I have shoved a pair of ugly socks (clean just ugly) into the hole so that nothing else gets lost.
What this all comes down to for me is patronization. Seems from a few of the other reviews I am not the only one. Cmon… Would a man get the umbrella story?
For the record Puyallup VW, I pay my own bills. I change tires, used to change my own oil, I’ve repaired alternators. Replaced filters etc. when my lease is over I will be purchasing my 2017 Jetta from the first dealership I can find that will treat me like a person. Not a skirt.
The sales personal who assisted us were good people. All questions were answered, no high pressure… Sadley the support staff not so good.
BTW. When someone brings there car in for a flat repair? It would be pretty cool if you could get that soap stuff off before it dries on. Still wiping that off.

Went in for on oil change, was told it would be done that night or first thing in the morning. which really it took 2 days to get done, never got a phone call telling me that it was finished. Went in the 3^rd day to find out my battery had died and my washer jets are not functioning anymore. According to the inspection sheet, these were tested and are working properly. So the fact of the matter is their techs are not really doing the work they say they are and just checking off the inspection sheet.
They didn’t have the time to fix the jets that day so they jump my battery and send me home, come back later when we have more time to fix it.
So when I get home and a few hours later I need to run to the store, but my «tested» battery has already died again. I took it down to auto zone and it their tech told me its completely shot!
At this point I’ve been lied to 3 times, how long it takes, what work what was really done, and that my battery was «fine».
I asked for them to reimburse me for the battery and when the work is done to my car to fix the jets i want to be present. I was told I could watch from a windowed room and could not interact with the tech at all. Like I can really see anything the tech is doing from 25ft away!
Also they deny any fault for the battery, so i have to spend my hard earned money on their mistakes. The manager even admitted to the tech being new and did not know if anyone was with him at the time.
So they have unsupervised, untrained techs working in their service department…
I feel the tech made a mistake, covered his tracks and FALSIFIED the information on the inspection.
Doesn’t help that I bought one of their «clean» diesels.
I can NEVER trust this company ever again!

Came to look at a vehicle, left with a great deal and a new car. Excellent sales staff, very flexible and accommodating, military friendly. Ask for Trevor.

The customer service has been good at times. Other times service seems to be lacking, in the service dept. for that matter. I have found Jared the service advisor to be helpful on a consistent basis.
I have had my car serviced there about 3 – 4 times, there was one experience in which I made a request and the person I was speaking to denied the request (the request was to match another dealerships price point for the specific service), then followed it up with «That is just how life works”-I don’t remember his name. Overall it is an alright place.
–clean, mostly friendly, higher priced.

I had a very good purchase experience with Trevor, who traded to get me exactly the car I wanted (white, 4-​door, manual Golf TDI), & was easy to communicate with about price/​financing. I am a younger woman, & I spent 2 weeks prior at other dealerships, getting hit with lots of aggressive sales tactics & even physical intimidation. Only polite & congenial interactions with the 4 total staffers I met at VW of Puyallup. Trevor knew the cars well but wasn’t trying to impress me with «shiny» comments about them. I’ve had the car for less than a week, but I’m thrilled so far.

Man, it is very difficult giving a car dealership a five star rating especially in the society that we live in where car dealerships are usually ran by snake oil salesman.
In this review I would like to point out the exceptional customer service and low-​pressure sales approach that Cody took during our experience. Not once did Cody push us in anyway to purchase the vehicle but simply informed us of the vehicle in which we are interested in, and allowed us at our pace, to explore the vehicle.
The brief negotiation for the final price went extremely quick mainly because the price of the vehicle was reasonable and the assertiveness of the GM.
Overall, our experience was an excellent one with no hiccups. We got a very nice vehicle for a fair price. Thank you VW of Puyallup! And especially Cody, keep it up !

My husband and I recently traded our car in for a newer one here. Cody helped us, and made the experience very enjoyable. He didn’t try pressuring us into something we didn’t want or couldn’t afford, he simply helped us get what we wanted and what was right for our family.

Had an absolutely great, easy experience Shawn Yi made it very effortless and fun to get a car. Took all of the stress out of buying a new car. Definitely will be telling my friends about VW of Puyallup and will definitely be coming back.

Came in for a «free» oil change with coupon. Left and all was well till 300 miles later I got a check engine light. Brought it back in and they said too much oil was added. They reset the light and removed the oil (which looked strangely black and unchanged) and sent me on my way. The service assistant talked in a faux German accent thinking he was funny but only further irritated me. My check engine light was on again after 300 miles. I then took it to Auburn vw and got a proper oil change and the light has not come back in over 10k miles. I don’t know if it was because they were new or if they really didn’t change the oil, but I won’t take a chance with them servicing my car again.

We bought our 2007 Acura RDX from VW Puyallup in April 2014. Right off the bat, the key broke, and they refused to fix it. We could get passed the terrible customer service on this point, as the car was 7 years old, and had 80K miles on it. General wear and tear is normal for a car of that description.
However, after taking it in for it’s scheduled maintenance, we learned that the car is requiring thousands of dollars in major repairs — including a completely worn timing chain (which we were told was serviced, and since Acuras have chains not belts, they hold up really well), destroyed shock absorbers, which, should we get in a wreck, would be really bad news for any passengers in the car, and lastly — and my personal favorite — broken anti-​sway bars. Not sure what an anti-​sway bar is? Here’s the definition:
A sway bar or anti-​roll bar or stabilizer bar is a part of an automobile suspension that helps reduce the body roll of a vehicle during fast cornering or over road irregularities. It connects opposite (left/​right) wheels together through short lever arms linked by a torsion spring.
In a nut-​shell, we’ve been driving a steel death trap around. They didn’t even bother to change the windshield wipers or the oil. We were told the car had a full inspection, and that all safety requirements were met and signed off on. We probably would have still purchased the car knowing that it required work, just at a cheaper price — honesty goes a long way. Since we were lied to and ripped off, we won’t be going back or recommending them anytime soon.
