Established in 2008.

Started in downtown Puyallup in April of 2008 by Jennifer R. Bull, LMP who has been in the field of Massage since 1999. Moved to Canyon Road for a bigger location and ease of access.

Business Owner

Jennifer Bull, LMP has been in the field of Massage since 1999. Her passion is for Treatment Massage. She has worked in conjunction with Chiropractors and other medical professionals most of her career. Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, and Neuromuscular Re-​Education and Kinesio Taping are a few of the techniques she employs during her massage sessions, but Jennifer is proficient in many different modalities. She recently attained her endorsement to perform Intraoral Treatment for TMJ dysfunction, Headaches, Whiplash and other Cranial and Upper Cervical issues. Jennifer occasionally instructs local massage schools and offers several continuing education seminars on multiple aspects of medical/​treatment massage as well. Anatomy has always interested Jennifer and her multidimensional approach to the body shows in her treatment techniques. She is currently studying to become a Certified Craniosacral Therapist by completing the Upledger Institue Training Courses

Some good therapists, but very rude staff up front. First impressions and friendly greetings make a difference. Also, I felt my personal information was said aloud and other patients could hear. That’s a HIPAA violation. I will definitely not return due to trust and unprofessional staff up front.

Above the body is the greatest place to go for massage. It starts with the amazing front desk Kayla who takes customer service to the highest level. She truly cares about getting you seen. Then the therapists, not only do the massage, but, help you find what else if anything is needed to help you get well. I can not say enough about this AMAZING group of people. Thank you for the awesome service and heart.

I don’t believe leaving a bad review is particularly a beneficial thing for the community, but this business is so riddled with problems that t feel it almost a responsibility to warn new comers looking for a good place to get massage. THIS IS NOT THAT PLACE. Patrons of this business don’t get treated well at all. I’ve personally experienced this as well as witnessing poor treatment to other customers. The front desk staff is not the sharpest bunch in the group. Often not returning phone call request for appointments or messing up appointments you book. I also experienced rude treatment from the owner (s) a sister team that seem the unhappiness humans on earth. They really shouldn’t be in the business of health care. But, my biggest complaint is the quality of Massage has gone waaaay down hill. You can never count on getting a full hour you pay for. I think most appointments I averaged 40 min of actual massage time. You finally get a decent therapist and a week later you find out they are no longer there. This has happened to me 4 times! Lots of people come and go here. I use to have such a skilled, educated gal I saw regularly, always on time, fantastic massage, full hour of Massage. She was always positive and focused on my care. She was there one day, gone the next and sadly, 3 – 4 other qualified seasoned therapist were gone within weeks of her too. Something is not good about this place, even if it use to be. The moment you walk in staff are gossiping, complaining and seem very unhappy. Definitely NOT a place of healing. Don’t pay the $ 60 for a unskilled massage lasting less than 45 min that isn’t performed by a skillful Therapist like they use to have. I no longer go there and quickly realized there are some really great massage places out there not claiming to be ‘best of Western Washington’ while they very well likely have become the worst.

I’ve gone here three times now and had great experiences each time. My only complaint is not with UTB but with the industry in general.
So this is my concern, if you pay for a 60 minute massage then it should be 60 minutes. I don’t pay for a 60 minute appointment. This now seems to be an industry thing. They call you back at the start of your appointment. If you have an appointment at, let’s say 11, for 60 minutes I expect that at 11 the massage would start and end at 12. But they call you back at the start of your appointment. Then in the room ask what’s been bothering you and discuss what they are going to do. Then they leave so you can get on the table. So by the time they even start you’re already being shorted 10 minutes. Again this is my complaint to the industry in general.

The massages I received were good but the office staff is not. I went to unlocking the body with a prescription for massage, they said they verified my benefits and the massages were covered. Many visits later, they tell me oh actually… we made a mistake. You owe us 800 dollars for all of your previous visits we told you were covered and only collected co pays for. Super unprofessional place. Won’t be going back.

This place deserves more than 5 stars. The best experience I have had at a place in a long time. From the very beginning of process to the end. I had a horrible experience at another place and really wanted to get a couples massage and Megan helped me get set up right away and found a spot in their schedule that was convenient for us. When we arrived for the massage we were greeted with a big smile and the office manager was helpful and answered all of our questions.
Now for the massage… I have been getting massages for years and Michon was AMAZING. it is the next day and my body still feels relaxed and brand new. She had helpful information after the massage for my upper back.
This was my boyfriends first massage ever and Rebecca made his back feel brand new. Now he wants to get massages on a regular basis– which he needs so badly.
This place shows excellent customer service and we will be back! Thank you guys for the wonderful care!

What a great experience! The moment I walked in, I immediately felt welcomed. The gal at the front was very sweet and engaged with everyone that was in the waiting room. I saw Mashone today for my massage, I have only great things to say about her. Not only did she do a great job but she also educated me on why I was feeling the tension and discomfort I was feeling that originally led me there. I’ll for sure be back :)

I have been to this Unlocking the Body Twice. Both times they asked me what was my problem areas and only touched these areas. When I asked about this they told me that was how massage is. If I wanted them to touch my ENTIRE body I must inform them of this. I have been going to Massage Therapy for 20 years this is the only place that has EVER told me that. I told her I felt unbalanced and she told me that I did not. She massaged between my shoulder blades to my lower back and my LEFT shoulder. She also came out into the lobby to further explain to me that I was wrong and that is how massage goes. I did not like paying to be told I dont know what I want. She also told me all about insurance and that it is illegal to touch other parts of the body if the script says the back, that is the only place she can touch, she cannot touch anywhere else legally. I did not feel this pertained to me since I was not using insurance. I will not go back and will not recommend anyone else going there and I work at a major Hospital in the area and really wanted to recommend this place being so close to our work and homes, but I will not. Bad for customer service ladies. Also when I told her that I was unbalanced and I felt I needed to go down the road to the UNLICENCED Massage Therapy clinic to feel balanced and she stated Well you can do that. My reply was I should not feel like going somewhere else after an hour massage. Thanks but no thanks. I also told her i have been to Elizabeths Holistic Health and I never had to asked to get touched on both shoulders. She basically told me that Elizabeth was not a medical massage therapist. I beg to differ Elizabeth is a LMP also and has been to conciderable continuing education. Back to Elizabeths Holistic Health I go The only reason I tried this place is it is closer to my home. But driving to Parkland from Puyallup for good service is worth it

I don’t know why I keep giving this place a chance. Maybe because its endorsed by Evening Mag. They are very close to my work and they have a huge list of therapist to choose from. Ive been there 4 different times and each time with a different therapist Not one of them can give a decent massage. Also they dont give you a full hour! I’ve gottten several wonderful massages at other places. My husband also went there and he said that his therapist was lame.
Time to go elsewhere.

I went here for my first professional massage. The woman at the front desk did not seem warm or welcoming but that is beside the point of this review. I paid for an HOUR massage and i only recieved MAYBE 35 minutes. I was 30 minutes early and i was still brought back late and my massage ended 15 minutes early. The massage was overall relaxing and enjoyable but i will not return because i feel like i was ripped off.

My husband and I have been going to Unlocking the Body for 2 ½ years… I love it there… I go to Kerri, and I also see Nancy the acupuncturist and my husband goes to Diane. I love the front desk staff they are always friendly and Kerri is great at deep tissue (so is Teresa!) And Diane does deep tissue on husband but not as deep as Kerri and that is why he goes to Diane. We have been really happy with them. Yes I read the reviews about it being tiny etc… but its not that tiny and is always clean… as far as people being rude… I have NEVER seen any of these girls being rude. They are very pleasant and friendly. I have medical issues so they are the ONLY ones I TRUST to take care of me. I am not sure of all the girls but I have been with three different girls when Kerri wasn’t available and they all did a good job. I just prefer Kerri because she is really deep and that is what I need for my specific issues. We refer people to Unlocking the Body all the time. They are the best in this area and being a fitness therapist I very picky about who works on me… and I would trust any of these girls to work on me.

I am very happy with my experiences at this establishment. I was unable to get an appointment with the massage therapist at my chiropractor’s office for several weeks (due to my schedule, as well as her vacation…) so I asked him for a referral to Unlocking the Body. I have had 4 or 5 visits there and every time have walked out feeling better and better. I have seen 3 different people there, and they all had their strong points. I do desk and computer work, so my lower back and shoulders/​neck are always tight and painful. I will continue to receive care here and also refer other people in need of a phenomenal massage!

Might have misunderstood the appointment time but I thought it was 4:30 and had to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. Arrived before 4:30 and by the time the massage started it was close to 4:45. The masseuses stopped at 5:15 so it ended up being a 30 minute massage. This wouldn’t have been such a big problem if it had been disclosed before we went into the room that we would be charged for the full hour and only get 30 minutes. We haven’t had a massage in years and this was our very first couple’s massage. I guess we were expecting something a little more special and definitely longer than 30 minutes. Not sure when we’ll ever have time to get together for a couples massage again but it definitely won’t be here…

Acupuncture was GREAT! It’s covered by a lot of insurances too, but if it wasn’t, I would pay cash because THAT is how positively it has impacted my life. I’ve been to an acupuncturist a few years ago for migraines and it worked and I can compare practitioners. I wanted to try it again for migraines and hot flashes. I found Nancy from a reference at work. Nancy is the only person at Unlocking The Body who does acupuncture & she is fantastic. She spends quality time with you trying to understand your needs. She is knowledgeable, professional and compassionate. I would highly recommend her. I do agree with a review below about the place being very small. It is small, but it’s clean and all I care about is getting positive results from someone good at acupuncture, which is what I received. I have friends at work who use this business for massage. The only thing I would suggest that would enhance all patient’s needs is for a bigger place OR better volume control. It’s hard to relax at times with others walking and talking inches from your door. But I’m returning each week because I am migraine free and feel great.

Went here for the first time yesterday. This is probably going to be my regular place for a massage for now on. I got a deep tissue massage because my back was killing me. I walked out of there feeling so much better. Lots of places I get a massage but they just do a full body not really caring about the certain areas that need attention. Hopefully every experience will be a good one here. Of course tho… I’ve only been here once so far

Um, NO. This place is tiny, overcrowded, messy & unorganized. Sheets all over the floor of the owners massage room and she was rude and arrogant to boot. Not a place I’d return to.
