Iron Chef

Iron Chef is good. I would rather eat at Mandolin or Mizu. I think that they are little bit better for a little bit cheaper. If Iron Chef lowered its prices, I think it would be more competitive with some of the other Japanese places. The best thing was the salad dressing. It is probably my favorite at all the Japanese restaurants. They should bottle and sell it, because it was amazing. I did also like the fact that we got bean sprouts and cabbage. Most of the other places you only get the grilled vegetables. Getting bean sprouts and cabbage is what you should get instead of the grilled vegetables. That’s more traditional. My kids love them from living in Japan for 7 years. So, that was also a plus. I think the thing that made me dislike the place was how dark and unwelcoming it felt, and the slow service. It needs a face lift, brighten it up with some lovely décor and pull it out of the 70s. It just feels unwelcoming. The food as a whole was good. No real complaints about it. Just overpriced and slow service.

Good food, however way over priced for the portions. I guess your paying for the entertainment of fire on a griddle. Wouldn’t recommend it unless you enjoy dinning with strangers. I had six friends and family for a birthday celebration and ended up with two Middle Aged people on a date. Made the setting uncomfortable… Won’t be returning any time soon

This place used to be good, but has gone down hill. Way overpriced, and they change their sides all the time. Go to Mandolin in Tacoma instead, you’ll be glad that you did! Filet mignon there is $ 5 less per plate, you get a lot more food, and the sides are to die for.

Amazing experience!
My partner and I first tried to dine at Samurai’s out in Roy on a Saturday night without reservations. I’ve eaten there many times in the past, many nights of the week, without reservations. My partner and I were told that without reservations it would be a two hour wait to be seated. There was no one waiting for a table in the lobby area, and from what we saw there were many tables/​cook tops open. So, we walked out and decided that we would try Iron Chef for the first time.
On our way there from Samurai’s, we called to see what seating would be like — given that it is on Meridian and a Saturday evening, we figured there would be a wait. We were told on the phone that they could seat us immediately. No way.
So, we showed up and there were a few large groups (6+) waiting to be seated. We put our name on the list and figured we’d grab a drink at the bar while we waited. We weren’t able to even order our drinks before we were being seated at a table!
The atmosphere was great — not as detailed as Samurai’s — but it was very open and comfortable. This isn’t the place for a private dinner — but what teppanyaki is?
We were sat and offered drinks right away. Our table had six others celebrating a birthday, so a total of eight of us, but it didn’t feel crowded. No elbows bumping that I noticed.
We were served our soup and salad while we waited for our chef — both of which were tasty and good portion size. I was very pleased with our server as well — nice lady that communicated my Maker’s Manhattan on the rocks shaken just perfectly to the bartender. Side note — the drinks were GREAT. Stronger than Samurai’s and more flavorful.
The real highlight of our meal was our Chef, Andrew. He was the only caucasian chef I saw cooking — ask for him by name if you go. Andrew’s food was AMAZING. Holy smokes the ginger sauce was DYNAMITE! He perfectly cooked my filet mignon blue rare! Most times it gets overcooked because the chef is afraid to serve rare beef. His was spot on! The show he put on during the meal was original, witty, and engaged everyone at the table. His knife skills were extremely impressive — really what a great show!
We lingered during our meal, was never rushed to eat and get out, and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our visit.
Sorry Samurai’s — we’ve got a new, much better teppanyaki to visit. The staff is friendlier, the food is better, and the overall experience is far superior!

Went here in the past and was good. But recently went here for my daughter 16 birthday. Had a big table and each guest was charged 18% and not told about it so most people tipped on top of that. Had very small portion for the price and the cooks seemed more interested in the football game. We were rushed through our meal, I mean we just started eating and they were bringing out the ice cream. Wait staff was very rude and like I said rushed us. Weren’t even there 45 min and gave us check!!! I will never ever go there again

Took my family there, it was very good service. All my kids were very please with the chef and the food

I brought a girlfriend of mine here to celebrate her birthday. I thought it would be a fun experience and a nice treat for her but we were both SO disappointed. I thought the point of a hibachi chef was to cook great food while entertaining the guests. Ours barely spoke English and got an attitude with another person at the table for wanting more sauce. The only «trick» he did was the standard onion ring volcano. *SNORE* The prices were astronomical for the quality of meat and amount of food you can get. I especially didn’t like the fact that the place was practically empty, yet I felt we were rushed the whole time. Our bill was $ 89 for two people. Unacceptable. I will never go back and would advise anyone against it.

I’ve been here 3 times and every time was delicious and fun. This place is pretty expensive but I find it worth the price because of the entertainment that goes along with it. With that being said, I won’t come here a lot. It is a great place to go for special occasions/​celebrations. I took my boyfriend here to celebrate his new job. He had never been to a place like this and he not only loved the entertainment but thought the steak was the best steak he had ever had. The steak and shrimp was so fresh and cooked to perfection. He even enjoyed the cooked cabbage because it still had a crunch to it. The fried rice is worth the extra charge. They cook it right in front of you and it’s super good. Everything is cooked so well and you get it right off the grill. The drinks are reasonably priced and strong. Don’t come here if you can’t afford to leave a good tip!

The Iron Chef was actually decent. I wasn’t sure how good it was going to be based on the reviews, however, I wasn’t disappointed. It was clean, good service, friendly waitresses/​staff, and of course great food. I got the New York Steak (medium) and fried rice (yum). The shrimp was also very good. If it’s your birthday they make you get up and dance. :-) I would recommend it if you are in the area.

Went here a couple of days ago and the location was easy to find but for some reason the parking lot seemed a bit tight. There were lots of places to park but the parking spots themselves seemed a bit slimmer than other places. Anyway I get there and you gotta walk up stairs to get inside. The outside appearance of the building as well as the inside is very clean and well maintained.
I get inside and I’m waiting with some of my party to be seated (it was a large group of us, about 12 – 13). After about 5 or so minutes of still waiting for more of our party to show up, one of the waitresses lets us sit at our table. It’s a hibachi style restaurant so we’re all seated around the grill. Since we had a large party, we took up 2 hibachi grills and 2 chefs came out to cook our food. Both chefs were good at putting on a show for the audience, but the chef for the other table was more talkative. Our chef was super serious and all focused on his craft lol. The waitresses did seem to be in a hurry all the time. Hurry to take our order, hurry to bring our food, hurry to clean up our area — with us still sitting there… and a waitress forgot part of my order and my niece’s drink, but eventually brought it out to us. They were nice overall, but it felt a bit rushed.
The reason for the 3-​star rating is because I believe the food is overpriced. I literally got water, salad, a grilled chicken breast (that I could have bought from H&L and cooked myself) and grilled veggies; and my bill alone was nearly $ 30! The thing is, I wouldn’t be complaining had that been the best hibachi restaurant/​food I’d ever had! But sadly, it wasn’t. The best hibachi restaurant I’ve ever had was in TN. This place’s food was pretty mediocre. Wasn’t great, wasn’t bad, just mediocre. You are definitely paying for the show they put on more than the meal itself.
Overall it was a decent experience to possibly try at least once!

Did not like having to pay extra for them to fry my rice Plus’s the cook was in a hurry got the plates confused forgot someone’s steak too ugh and the prices were not that reasonable exspcialy since the main flavoring that was used was spy sauce… If your going to charge so much at least make it interesting and fun… Will not be back!!!

It’s a little overpriced, but so is Disney World. The kids love it here and I am usually entertained. The food is pretty good I have not been disappointed yet… Stiff drinks decent selection of beer. I usually get the chicken and shrimp.

Excellent food. Excellent show. Only thing I noticed was my steamed rice was brought out first, and by the time everything was cooked, my rice was cold. Maybe warming it on the grill will help. Perfect Bloody Mary, compliments to the waitress. I think she was American. And to the comments of people saying the portions are too small, they must be obese. Everyone at my table was full when we left, with most of us grabbing a take home box. So over, I’m going again.

For the price, the food wasn’t «wow» … it was good — just not fabulous. The experience was fun. My daughter got splattered with raw egg that the chef let fly a little too far from the grill. I’ll not go back but my daughter wants to make is as a date night with her husband.

Pretty average. Overpriced. Gimmicky show. Kind of embarrassed I brought friends here. Not ever coming back. Better food quality at a taco truck.

Horrible service and very stingy with portions for being so expensive. Not welcoming for groups and a negative vibe from staff. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Iron Chef management– Chef Andrew rules!
What a great entertainer & chef. He has cooked for us twice so far and is the reason we have come back to iron chef.
1) He cooks excellent food. 2) he is hilarious 3) he is a great entertainer.
I have had other chefs that do not cook or entertain as well as he does.
We had two great experiences at this place.
Pros:
Seated quickly. Steak was cooked to perfection. Great entertainment. Nice portion sizes. Great dipping sauces.
Cons:
Pricier side. $ 3.50 extra charge for fried rice. Drink service was bad (waited 25 min for a drink refill). We were celebrating my fathers birthday and the host has too many birthdays at one table. Although they sang happy birthday to everybody at once. It took away that «specialized» and personal birthday experience that I wish he had.

I will say that I was pleasantly surprised. Tried to get into samurais in spanaway but it was booked.
Hands down the food is better at iron chef. Chicken wasn’t dry at all. Staff was just ok, not bad not great. Décor needs a little help, it was pretty wide open.
I will say the prices are higher than both samurais and Benihana. They could bring them down a little.

They were opened on Christmas day– Score! We came in around 5pm and the place was already packed, but we didn’t have to wait long to get seated. Thankg goodness because we were starving. Considering how busy they were, service was pretty good and the food was great. I had filet mignon + shrimp and my husband had their filet mignon + scallops. Everything was delicious and our hibachi chef was great and entertaining.

First impression: the name iron chef kind of draws you in. When you first walk in the décor is pretty average nothing really eye catching but it was clean (even the restrooms). I have been to a few Japanese steak houses and samurai’s on mountain hwy is by far the best one.
Iron chef was saved purely for the food and the chef cooking our meal. When the waitress took or order I asked for fried rice and was taken aback by the additional $ 3.50 added to the cost of our $ 23.00 and over meal per person. Out was definitely a huge con for me.
All of my reservations about iron chef completely dissipated after meeting our chef for the night. He did a great job at engaging and acknowledging everyone at the table as well as putting on a show. Great time overall! Would go back!
