Hilltop Service

This is the second time I’ve used this shop. They are amazing! They are reasonably priced for labor and super helpful. I replaced my front calipers and pads, the rear wheel cylinders and ebrake struts, and the brake booster at home. Then we couldn’t get it to stop/​bleed correctly; of course one thing after another.
I had it towed in and they ended up bleeding it and found out I needed a master cylinder. They let me use one I had already purchased unlike many other shops which helps on part cost. They installed that and rebled the whole system and had be back up and running (and stopping) in short order. They clearly explained what was happening before they did the work.
I’ve been straight lied to about needed work by other shops but never Hilltop. The treat you with respect, are super polite, and very quick! Hopefully I won’t need them in the future but if I do need professional help I will definitely be back!

Hilltop Service has worked on several of my cars and I’m always happy with the work and price. They are the only shop that I trust with my 1965 Pontiac GTO. I know the care my car needs will be given at this shop and when I request it to be inside I night I don’t see it out back in the bull pen. I have been going to Hilltop since the late 80’s, they have always been straight with me on repairs, to the dime on cost, and an awesome sounding board when I am trouble shooting at home. Anytime I have taken a vehicle to another shop «to save a couple of bucks» I got the crummy work that I deserved and returned to Hilltop to get the job done right. I really appreciate their honesty when discussing a repair, and their price quotes are spot on. I have NEVER had any of the guys talk down, or «simplify» a situation because I am female– that respect goes a long way with me, and they also don’t laugh at me (at least to my face) for having them cobble together a 26 y/​o mini van that my Dad is emotionally attached to. As I write this the van is at Hilltop getting it’s transmission repaced after a local (my only 1 star review ever) transmission shop botched the job to the tune of 1250.00. If you want honesty, respect, and work that the shop stands behind– Steve’s Hilltop Service is the place to go.

Here it is, my first negative review. Long story short: I bought my mom’s truck from her. She took wonderful care of it, and one of the things she did is always use AMSoil. This truck runs like a champ. I vowed to only use AMSoil in it, as well, when I bought it from her. For the first oil change under my ownership, I know the truck got AMSoil because I went to an amsoil dealer and bought it myself, and dear old dad changed the oil and filter. This same amsoil dealer told me about Hilltop Service in Puyallup, said they were fair and decent and they use AMSoil. So for several oil changes now I’ve gone to Hilltop, and only one of those times did I get AMSoil! When I make the appointment, I say to the employee, either Greg or Steve, that I want AMSoil. They respond with something like «No problem». But when the oil & filter is changed, AMSoil is not used.
About 10 days ago I made an appointment for August 9 for an oil change. I said I really want to get AMSoil, and it looks like my truck needs 5W30. Hilltop says, «Oh that shouldn’t be a problem, we have plenty of that in stock.» When they were all finished with the oil change today, I asked, «Do you think I got AMSoil?» Hilltop dude says, «No, I think you got Royal Purple, which is basically the same thing, just a different color. Ha Ha Ha Ha!»
A reasonable response would be, «Well then don’t go there anymore!» Which is sound advice. But I dread calling around, asking other auto places if I can PLEASE get an oil change with AMSoil? And then how would I even know if they used AMSoil or not? This sucks.
I’m sure Hilltop does great work at other things, but I’m sick of them ignoring my simple requests and then shrugging it off. A 2 star rating is too generous.
