Shop Around! There are MUCH BETTER PRICES elsewhere!
We rented a 10×15 unit ($ 160/​mo + fees), but ended up having to go to another U-​haul facility to pick up our trailer. While at the other U-​haul location, we noticed that their pricing was posted on the munu board, and it was significantly cheaper ($ 119/​mo).
I called Affordable Storage to see if they would price match because we hadnt move anything in yet, and the lady who answered the phone said «YES.» When she asked what size unit I wanted pricing on, I explained that I had already rented from her the day before and just saw much better pricing 10 minutes down the road. Then she really started to back-​track.
«Well, that’s a really different market»
«I can’t make that decision. My manager will have to call you next week»
«You really can’t compare locations. Their security may not be as good as ours»
(Actually, it was BETTER!)
«You really don’t know how many break-​ins they have had»
«I have a waiting list of people who want that unit»
(Really? Not the day I was there)
Lesson Learned! Places like this are happy to take your money, but once they have it, there are not going to negotiate with you! Shop around and make them earn your business.
