You’ll find our gift selection intriguing and unique; there is always something new to browse. Including items for teenagers — we have a complete skateboarding section — whether you want to buy a complete board as a gift or need repair parts and new accessories for your existing board.
From February through June, we provide chick & poultry ordering to our customers through two hatcheries — please email us for a chick list and order form!
From June through January we carry an assortment of small animals — ferrets, chinchillas, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, parakeets, hermit crabs, betta fish, guinea pigs. And we also help the local shelter (United Friends of Homeless Animals) rehome their kittens by showcasing them and accepting applications for them here at the store.
Come in and have your propane tank filled — and browse the store — you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
History
Established in 2002.
Deaton’s Agway was opened by Brant Deaton as an expansion and seperation from his hardware venture, seperating out the feed portion of the business to stand on its own. Since then, the business has taken on a life of it’s own, with an established customer base that helps it continue to grow. Our pet department has grown exponentially in the last few years, especially in the small animal section. We’ve continued to sell Science Diet dog & cat food in conjunction and by recommendation of the local veterinarians. We’ve expanded our chick selection to include an additional hatchery and many rare birds that our customers were requesting. We’ve expanded our greenhouse and nursery selection to appeal to a broader range of customers, now offering fruit trees, roses, lilacs, and ornamental bushes — and our perennial selection has grown by leaps and bounds!
Meet the Manager
Rebecca P.
Manager
Rebecca came to work at Deaton’s Agway in 2010, and was promoted to manager near the end of that year. Previously she had worked as the Business Office Manager at a skilled nursing facility and in Accounts Payables for Oswego County. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from SUNY Oswego. Locally born and raised, she graduated from Mexico High School and was raised between three different dairy farms, all owned by family. She’s a pet fanatic and has owned an extensive array of pets — including cats & dogs, ferrets, chinchillas, cockatiels, lovebirds, parakeets, a cockatoo, hamsters, gerbils, degus, turtles, tortoises, & snakes. She has had farming experience growing up and some small farm experience as an adult — owning 70 chickens, 12 ducks, 3 turkeys, and a goose at one point. She and her husband have raised both cows and pigs for harvesting. If there is a question her employees cannot answer, she’s more than willing to share whatever knowledge she has with her customers.
