Beaconlight Guest House

The breakfast is light on protein. Also there is insufficient parking. On they last night of our stay, a Saturday, when we left for dinner, I asked the person on duty where we could park if the lot was full. He assured us the lot would not be full. Sure enough, upon our return the lot was full. So we parked several blocks away: no big deal. But the person on duty did not know if overnight parking was allowed at that lot. Ultimately, we put in two calls to the owners for an answer to that question. They never called back. Not good customer service.

Lovely, clean rooms each with an air conditioner. Good location on a quiet little street, with a quaint rooftop porch with beautiful views. Breakfast room is also lovely and the food is basic but good. Unfortunately the owners are unfriendly and some of the staff are not at all knowledgeable of the area despite being natives.

Spent an incredible weekend here 4÷10−4÷12. Keith and Mark are wonderful. Immaculate home. I am already looking at a return stay.

Not really sure why people were complaining about this place on Unilocal and trip advisor. We stayed for carnival week and really enjoyed it. Check in was easy. The place is very clean and has beautiful garden areas. It’s a very convenient location and the owners are pleasant and welcoming. My only real complaint is the blinds in our room don’t block out the morning sun, but I’m an early riser so it’s not that big of deal. They also have a better than average continental breakfast with really great coffee.

It has been quite a few years since we stayed at the Beacon Light. We always loved it there. It was beautiful and a fun place to call home. This trip was quite different. The current owners are aloof, unfriendly and abrupt. Very unwelcoming with a long lists of dos and donts. The entrance was once a beautiful garden. Now you nearly need a machete to find the front door. The weeds and overgrown landscaping is really a shame. They obviously will offer rooms to anyone as we were serenaded with crying babies and irate parents. We ate breakfast there, which was delicious but were made to feel very unwelcomed buy the owner. Like we were not supposed to be in the kitchen. Not even a good morning uttered from his lips. We won’t go back.

Great location! Clean, lots of character, friendly staff and very easy! We stayed in the suite– but saw the other rooms and they were equally nice and unique. The staff had great recommendations on food and entertainment; different than the typical touristy places. Would definitely stay again!

Our stay started off great when we were allowed to last minute shift our dates without issue (we were sailing to Ptown and the weather was no good the day we initially had planned to leave). The inn was just a couple blocks from where we docked and is right off the main street with tons of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The inn itself is very cute and warm with plenty of cozy common areas including beautiful outdoor decks and a tucked-​away courtyard with an outdoor hot tub. Our room was on the small side, but it didn’t bother us at all since we were out exploring all the town has to offer.

The Beaconlight is a gorgeous and gracious guest house! The staff is attentive and accommodating, the amenities are first-​rate and the entire house is exquisitely appointed. The garden, the porches and rooftop deck all add to the sense of lavish space and privacy. Winthrop Street is quiet and very close to the heart of Commercial Street.

I have been enjoying Ptown for about 10 years. I have stayed in an assortment of places (Admiral’s Landing/​definate no… owners seem to careless whether the guests stay there or not… the room and shared space was fine. Carpe Diem… room was small & owners stuffy… breakfast was great… I would stay elsewhere. Crowne Pointe… It is a hotel/​not a b&b…so I wouldn’t stay there again for that reason… But if you are ok with the hotel feel, it is gorgeous/​great service&food, though out of the way.) I finally found my home away from home when I discovered the Beaconlight. The breakfast is outstanding and the guests from around the world are very fun to chat with. The fresh berries were fresh and delicious. The fresh baked scones were different every morning and mouth watering. I love the fair trade coffee. The rooms are very comfortable. I have stayed in singles and suites and they are all wonderful. The owners are very kind and will offer great advice. But just as important they know when to leave you to your privacy. The hot tub is wonderful, the multiple decks spectacular and the back gardens beautiful. They have parking and a bike rack. They are in the middle of everything. It is steps away from Commercial St, the main street. It is blocks from Ptown bike rental, Muscle beach gym, and an easy bike ride to the organic grocery. It truly has become a home away from home. I could not recommend it more.

So, I noticed the reviews for the Beaconlight were kinda stale, so I’d like to bring you current. I recently stayed here (the end of Bear Week 2011) in July and the accommodations, staff and overall could not have been better. I booked a shared bath room and on arrival was upgraded to a nice room with a private bath. The guest house is about as clean as it gets — the place is immaculate. The rooms are freshly appointed and really clean. The staff was very pleasant as were the guests. There is ample outside decks on the second and third levels to sit outside and sun, or to just have coffee in the morning. There are ample parking (about 7 spaces). The location is superb. It’s on Winthrop street that intersects with commercial at Joe’s Coffee. Very convenient to it all. Modest continental breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised at last minute accommodations here on a busy week in July, and my overall experience could not have been better. Recommended.

I stayed here for 2 nights, July 13 and 14^th, 2008 in the Fireplace Suite. I believe it’s the most expensive room (I booked late on July 8, 2008). Cost was $ 323.62 a night. It’s close to Commercial Street, so very convenient. Décor is nice, I liked the seashells in the bathroom. I felt plenty welcome, Keith and Mark were very nice. The staff is excellent, I recommend tipping them well. I left a tip of $ 64.72. There’s parking if you have a car. I had a great stay, and would come back.

A good location and a nice, clean facility, but for almost $ 400/​night I expect to feel more welcome.
Sorry Beaconlight, but your staff and owner were not able to put me at ease. The extensive collection of period «don’t break it» antique furniture throughout does not help. At these very high end prices I want to feel welcome, comfortable and relaxed. I did not.
I would select the Anchor Inn or Benchmark Inn, both similarly priced luxury inns and well located in-​town, before I would stay at the Beaconlight again.
