The Westin Providence

I generally prefer starwood properties but thus location was just ok.
Great presentation when you arrive: valet, nice lobby, skywalk to mall, that Westin greentea smell… Then get to your room and talk about Big difference! I pulled back the covers on both beds in my room to inspect the bed (as I generally do) and on one bed the sheets and a round brown stain… eww.
The bathroom was ok til you look at the ceiling, cracking wallpaper and the shower head had brown stuff around all the spouts! When’s like last time they cleaned those I wonder. Also the plumbing is extra loud!
Overall not the best Westin I’ve been in but not the worst hotel either.

I stayed here for one night after visiting my cousin in Fall River Mass. I have to say, just like any other Westin stay, it was quite alright. Nice, clean, comfortable. Courteous staff as well as a great location, connected to Providence Place Mall. I loved the bathroom with the shower head that was a massage. I also like the robe that is in the closet for your use during your stay. I didn’t have a great view. but what mattered most was the fact that I was comfortable and it was clean and in a convenient location. I knew what to expect because I stayed at the Westin in Aruba a few weeks before and it was an overall good experience. For the price it was quite all right.

I stayed at the Westin last weekend with my brother and I will never return to this hotel.
The Room was very tiny for a suite, I’ve seen bigger suites for less money. The bathroom was dirty, and the staff was okay.
Room service is extremely expensive, don’t order in or you will be paying like 100 dollars for some burgers and fries.
The Hotel had several events going on that weekend which made for people running around in the hallways banging on the doors late at night, and when we called downstairs, we were told there was nothing they could do about it.
Overall an uncomfortable stay.

My stay here with my boyfriend and our dog was very comfortable. Starting from valet to checkout, staff was very friendly. They gave us complimentary pet goodies to use that included a large dog bed, food and water bowl, and a food and water mat. Every time we ordered room service, our food came very promptly, never took long at all. The food is also very good from what we’ve tried. Loved their breakfast options.
This specific Westin has a connecting way to the mall across the street which was convenient. Location is also convenient, close to parks, nearby bars and restaurants.

NSCA Conference, 2012. I went up to one of my buddy’s rooms to wait to go out, and the rooms seemed pretty nice.
Bottomline: their coffee shop was not the best. My friend bought a coffee and it wasn’t warm or hot, but it was tepid. The people at the gift shop were pretty cool.

Just returned from a 2-​night stay. Overall I had a very favorable time here. Everyone and everything from the phone reservation to the front desk service to the wake-​up calls to the car valet to the bellman/​bag handling went without a glitch and everyone was pleasant. The East Tower room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Internet service was very good, but as stated by Emily, it costs– $ 9.95 a day. The valet parking at $ 28 per is also bit of a buzzkill. My convention rate of $ 169 ended up at around $ 230 per night — including these additional charges — $ 9.95 for internet, $ 28 for valet parking, $ 11.83 for state tax and $ 10.14 for occupancy tax. Way to gouge the tourists !!.
The location is great– right between Providence Place and all of the nightlife at Ri Ra, Union Station, River Fire and Capital Grille.
Oh — and for extra entertainment, I looked out the window this morning and saw a big crowd with police barricades and a street closure. The reason? Turned out the «X Factor» was holding auditions at the Dunkin Donuts Center (no shit –thats the name) and Britney Spears, Simon Cowell and the crew were coming in at 1:00.

A perfect A-​Ok experience for the less than 24 hours I was checked in. This was my second time staying at the Westin in downtown PVD, and the comfy rooms, GREAT location, and gorgeous lobby made the stay worth it. Nothing particularly luxurious IMO, but I wasn’t really looking for that — just a relaxing place to lay my weary head. The Westin came through on that fo sho.
But here’s what irks me, hence the average rating. $ 28 for overnight valet parking (and my car was returned covered in bird crap… like 5 different spots — no garage parking?) and an extra fee for WiFi. The Westin isn’t a budget hotel — annoyed that some basica parking/​internet features weren’t included.
Ah well. You pay for location. In that sense, the Westin delivers.

A comfortable enough room, with views from the West tower and the infamous Heavenly Bed, you’re willing to look past the minor drawbacks, provided work is paying the bill.
The best published rates are over $ 200/​night after taxes, which excludes $ 28 for overnight parking and an additional $ 10 per day for the use of wifi. This nickle-​and-​diming would be excusable if the rooms offered unrivaled luxury, but they don’t. My shower head was cracked, there were several power outlets that didn’t work and the cookie cutter décor came straight from an 80’s Holiday Inn. Gauche.
Front desk was friendly enough and the central location played to its favor. Based on other reviews, you may want to try your luck at scoring a Priceline rate. As a hotel, The Westin served its purpose, offering a decent bed and relatively easy access. As a Westin, however, it sits low in the pack.

Like Disney’s Beauty and the Beast you want to stay out of the west wing. We have stayed there twice. The first time we had a beautiful king corner deluxe room in the east wing. This time we had the same room category in the west wing. They are two different experiences!
The west wing room was much smaller, more narrow and had an average bathroom with a single tub. When I called and asked about the room I was told to go back down to the front and request the east wing. We did that and the room was very nice. It was larger, more comfortable and had a tub and separate tile shower.
There were hiccups with our stay but they were resolved quickly to our satisfaction.
It’s a great business hotel or a place to stay of you want to be close to the convention center, theaters and restaurants. It’s certainly not a romantic destination hotel.

My comments are directed toward the food and banquet service while attending a breakfast function last week. I have never given a one-​star rating before, as if the experience is that bad, I prefer not to relive it. But the more I thought about it, the Westin is too big and important to be simply left off the hook. Let’s get it together, folks!
The breakfast I received that morning was a small slice of lukewarm quiche, with little, disgusting, chewy, grizzly bits of ham embedded within it. On the side was a tablespoon of cold home-​fries. Two people at my table couldn’t eat it, and I regretted for the rest of the day that I had. I have had better Egg McMuffins on the Connecticut Turnpike. Even the half n half curdled in the coffee. Awful… shame, shame, shame!

I’m a little sad that Unilocalers are giving the Westin such low ratings! Granted, I barely travel so I guess anything inside a room, with decent air conditioning, working bathroom and a bed with loads of blankets are enough to keep me happy. After all, I’m a low maintenance gal… though the boyfriend disagrees.
Anywho! The hotel is super convenient, in terms of being close to I-​95 and is connected to Providence Place, via a skywalk! I didn’t think it was that walkable elsewhere though, since I hail from NYC, where we walk everywhere, this was not the same. I didn’t have any major problems with the keycards, except for when I used them in the elevator to get up to my floor but that wasn’t too bad. I did hang the do not disturb sign all weekend since I didn’t want housekeeping to wake us up at 7am thanks to Annamarie T.‘s review. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay — the best part being their lotion, shampoo and conditioner smelling so great and my room being a constant 68 degrees. The icing on the cake? I only paid $ 86/​night thanks to Priceline’s name your price! :)

This was another great deal from Priceline on a holiday weekend. We were centrally located to downtown and were a short walk to the university. We arrived on a fairly busy weekend and got to check out the local downtown Firewater show. The room had views of the walkway to the mall. The room was clean and suited our needs well. I have no yet had a bad Westin Hotel stay.

The best thing about this hotel is that it is walking distance to just about anything in downtown providence.
Other wise the rooms were very nice some with great views of the city, and the staff was nice too. They do have a nice pool and hot tub which happed to be empty when I want which was great.
My one complaint was the cleaning lady came knocking on our door at 7am, I did not understand why she came so early meanwhile check out isnt even till 12. So I suggest putting up the do not disturb sign to avoid getting woken up.

The Westin Providence is located close enough to the highway, downtown and Providence Place to make it super convenient. Proximity is probably its best feature.
Arriving at 5pm on a weekday, pulling up to valet and unloading took less than three minutes. Checking in was equally simple and the staff were quite accommodating. I thought «what’s with the bad reviews?» as I got my key and headed up to the room for some relaxation before a concert. Well, attempted to. The key didn’t work in the elevator so I had to rely on another guest’s keycard to make it to the 12^th floor. All the while with a sneaking suspicion that my key wouldn’t work.
It didn’t.
Retrace steps down labyrinthine halls. Down 12 floors. Trudge up to hotel lobby. Ask for new keys. Repeat. Repeat.
Yup, keys didn’t work on three separate occasions. Now annoyed and assuring my friend that a star would, indeed!, be docked — I call from the 12^th floor convenience phone and ask someone to come up. (I’ve already gotten my cardio in, thankyouverymuch.)
Hanging out in the hall like a total creepster while other guests check in, I am greeted by another hotel employee after a few minutes who is able to open the door with a master key and promises to have new keys delivered.
After that, the visit was entirely non-​descript. Which, is all I can ask for when I book a hotel for a night. The beds were comfortable enough, the water pressure was good and the shampoo provided didn’t turn my hair to hay. Success. The only real issue I had with the place, aside from being locked out for 45 minutes, was that the lighting in the bathroom was horrible. Really? Fluorescent lighting that points outward at the guest? How unflattering. Thanks for the chance to see myself as a washed-​up coke fiend. Great deterrent should I ever question whether or not to give drugs a try.
If you need a quick place to crash while in town for a short while, the Westin should be sufficient. Especially if you are a business traveler and can expense it as its certainly over-​priced for what it is. However, take a lesson from me — If your keys don’t work in the elevator, just get out and ask for a brand new key set. Trust.

On fam vacation — my brother showed me this Westin where he stayed a few years ago. A gorgeous hotel with a wonderful domed ceiling and a sloping escalator with nice touches, a sophisticated feel, and comfortable, sleek furniture. The chairs and lighting in the lobby had many people taking up the space… witha coffee kiosk there and superbly clean, pretty washrooms with large Toto sinks… it was a nice visit.
Connected to downtown’s Dunkin Donuts Convention Center with a skyway so as to spare one from the inclement weather of RI’s harsh winters (I was in shorts and North Face flipflops), smart get-up…also connected to a posh mall that sports stores such as .Macy’s.
Flemings steakhouse is also affiliated with the Westin and has daily HH with great bar bites — 5 orders for $ 6 before 7pm nightly. With a wonderful and charming downtown pregnant with such glorious NE architecture, I’d say a winner of a Westin.

Once you get over that you’re in Providence, this is a great location as far as Rhode Island goes. Far enough from Brown that you can’t smell the patchouli. I had a cool view of the downtown and didn’t have any problems with my room. I had to run an errand — I forgot to pack a tie — and was able to take the skywalk to the mall across the street and I bought a tie that’s one of my favorites to this day.
I went to Centro, one of their restaurants, for dinner. It was one of those hotel restaurants that’s creepily empty, like you’re in a movie where the director is trying to leave the audience unsettled.

Usually I stay at a Hilton Garden, or a Double Tree, but the account team wanted us to stay the the ritzier Westin for convenience. Every Westin I have stayed looks partied in – scratches on the faucets, furniture – looks as if 10 people slept in the room after a night at the club. Well this Westin was not just paritied in, it’s just felt old.
When you enter, the lobby is beautiful. High ceilings, expensive materials, old money curtains, etc. Then when i enter my room, it looks like the old world materials need a remodel. Everything looks extremely lived in.
Three issues with my room:
1. Windows: One would not close completely but there was a constant draft. Since I was on the 23^rd floor, my room had a beautiful view of the Capitol Building, which was marred by the filthy windows. Looked like it hasn’t been cleaned since they opened.
2. Toilet: Sorry… ahem, the toilet had no pressure and the opening was too crazy small. That’s all i have to say about that.
3. Ironing board: What the hell, did someone steal it?
I guess i have 4. Cleaning lady didn’t notice that i untucked some of the covers on the second bed. Details people, details. On top of that, I tipped them.
And what i really hate about Westin? Everything costs money, even wired internet. Oh and get this, there is NO WIRELESS INTERNET in the whole hotel. This is so 1995.

Can’t believe this is a Westin. There were many small things which was off.
The bad
1. towels and sheets were ripped up, and they still used it.
2. The tub drain was horrible and kept backing up
3. the coffee and water mugs (for the conference) were dirty and food bits or lipstick stain on them.
4. they served us asparagus for all the meals while we were there.
5. my hairdryer did not work, and I had to call twice before they got me a functioning one.
6. the pool had a disgusting file of something on it — sooo dirty — gross gross gross
7. the risotto with one of the meals was a nasty pile of mush
8. the orzo for another meal was bland and did not go well with the very tasty chicken parmesan
9. the dry, flavorless grilled chicken served with day old soggy pasta
The good
1. security was nice and very responsive when I called about a lost item.
2. we had fillet mignon for one of the meals and it was done perfectly, tender, with good beef flavors
3. the chicken parmesan

We stayed here while in town for my cousin’s graduation. She was able to get us a discounted rate, so I can’t complain about that.
We stayed in a room on the 3^rd floor. Upon turning on the shower the next morning, I noticed the water was VERY brown. The sink water was the same (not like this the night before). I called the front desk asking if anyone has complained. She said no, but she sent maintenance up to check it out. The maintenance man came up, checked it out, told us to keep the water running until it ran clear. Apparently, a water main had broken in the street and many people were complaining about the discolored water on our side of the hotel. Eventually, it cleaned itself up and was back to normal.
The beds in this room were rather uncomfortable and hard. The mini bar/​fridge wasn’t even cold. No free internet service either. Self parking was $ 18/​day.
The hotel is connected to Providence Place Mall, which is very convenient.
Not sure if I’d stay here again. But at least this visit didn’t cost us an arm and a leg!

This has been one of my worst Westin experiences — it was really run more like a disorganized Sheraton! We were in Providence for Memorial Day Weekend, not realizing it was also graduation weekend. Called SPG Plat Concierge and they said they could get us 2 rooms for 3 nights — no problem! We drove up to the hotel to check out the rooms and the front desk guy called Chris showed us two very nice rooms and said we could reserve them, but would have to call back Plat. So we did and the next moment they say no rooms available. They speak with property manager and still the same response. We ask to speak with Chris at the hotel and no one knows who Chris is?!
Well okay, so we manage to get rooms for one night. Now they tell us Friday night that we can get one room for Sat, but not two. They tell us in the morning they can get us two king rooms, just no doubles, but please call Plat to do the actual booking. Next moment, Plat says GM says nothing available and they have no idea who Jeann is?!
This place isn’t as nice or ornate as other Westins. Their housekeeping is simply terrible — they hadn’t replaced the shower gel et al since the last guest… there was no soap either. Asked for toothpaste, and took them 1 hour to bring it!
And they have no concierge desk and their front desk people apparently aren’t from the area and know nothing!!!
