Sts Sahag and St Mesrob

The one with the blue cross is where you will find paklava with a P, grape leaves that are hand-​rolled and filled with a scratch-​made rice and spice blend, and where all that love ends with an IAN (or YAN).
Today, 9 November 2014, marked the conclusion of Saints Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church’s Annual Food Festival & Bazaar.
Last year I enjoyed my sweet Armo treats two tables over from Mayor Taveras and Rep. Langevin, as they devoured their pilaf and kofta platters.
This year, as is the norm, the facility was jam-​packed with lovely, rounded faces, while the red, blue and orange novelties aplenty were being hawked. I managed to spend a mere $ 21 on 14 perfectly golden, triangular pieces of layered phyllo, crushed nuts and succulent syrup. Compare that to the Greek bazaar in Cranston charging nearly twice that, per piece — and rumor has it the Grecos didn’t even make their own grape leaves this year. Outsourced dolma, never at the hands of the sons and daughters of Aram.
Next week, St Varts’ Bazaar at Rhodes, promises to have an equal amount of Hagops and Grigors, ready to show us, honorary Armenians throughout the diaspora, lots of love.
