My husband and I ordered a gender reveal cake from Scialo’s. Danielle is the sweetest, she was so helpful and made everything so easy. The cake is so cute and we are so excited to eat it! Thanks again Danielle for being the best!

I’ve had many desserts from Scialo’s, especially around the holiday season, and have never been disappointed, The pies and cookies are amazing, and the bread, some of the best ever.

Based on two visits. Five stars at the top of its category. Four if you prefer lots of butter, cream, and high-end patisserie to this style. Even the things that look dry and cakey are moist and lighter than you’d expect. Great selection of pound cakes in traditional flavors like lemon poppyseed or plain. Don’t change! The round candy windows at the front hold the exact kinds of things you’d see in a similar spot in Italy. Take in the décor — simple and elegant. Complimentary coffee was unexpectedly full bodied and smooth for free countertop thermos coffee. No wonder they’ve been open since WWI. Servers are nice, too. And patient.

My fiancé and I called this bakery to make an appointment to taste wedding cakes for our wedding reception. We are a lesbian couple. Once the woman on the phone learned we were gay she became abruptly rude and unhelpful. If you are gay or support gays, you should be aware of Scialo’s homophobia. As a result, we bought our wedding cake from a gay friendly establishment that supported us.

I wasn’t a fan of the lemon tart pastry I bought a week or so ago, to be honest, but their Russian tea cake and cannolis are phenomenal.

This is my go-to bakery, which is why I am surprised I have not yet written a review for them. They have many delicious looking items, and my favorite is definitely the cupcakes. The vanilla cupcakes are especially tasty, as they have a subtle almond flavoring. The cake is always very moist and fluffy, and the frosting isn’t overwhelmingly sweet. I also like the cannollis, which aren’t traditional but still very good. For all of these reasons, whenever I need to bring sweet treats to an event(long gone are the days I used to bake regularly), I am stopping by Scialo brothers.

My partner loves the cinnamon sticks. Im not a huge fan of cinnamon pastries, so i naturally didn’t like it too much when I tried it. He liked them so much, he got three of them. They are a little expensive tho!

Everything I’ve had from Scialo has been delicious. Several times I’ve had their birthday cakes and from Tiramisu, Chocolate Cake, Vanilla… all of them have been moist and perfect. Recently, I bought a variety of miniature baked good and again… I was very impressed with the quality and freshness of all of them… my favorites: Butter Rum Bundt Cake !!!, Cupcake, Pumpkin Bread, Apple Cinnamon twist. Even though I am a big fan of carrot cake, I was not crazy about theirs… it was good… but not as good as the butter rum cake. Overall, a great bakery… check it out… close to DePasquale Square on the Hill. They have a small parking lot right next to the store, for convenient pick up.

I usually don’t write reviews, not at least a bad one, but this one I had to. Had a very bitter experience with this Bakery. I have had received pretty good services and products out of this bakery in the past. Ordered a birthday cake for my sister’s birthday. They suggested Almond Cake, which i took into consideration. The cake was horrible, and seemed and tasted stale. Nobody who attended the party liked the cake at all, had to throw the rest of the cake. Never going back to this bakery again.

I love the traditional old school vibe of this place. Every single travel show or article about Providence gives a shout out to Scialo and once you get there, it’s easy to see why. Everything tastes pure and simple and is perfectly made. It boggles my mind how they can get things perfect without using a modern oven. That’s pure art.

I don’t think it gets any more traditional when it comes to Italian desserts in Providence… Sicalo Bros definitely has them covered! Cannoli, cupcakes, tarts, cookies… you get the idea. But perhaps their most famous and widely-loved staple? The birthday cakes… Man alive, these things! Yes, they’re sweet. Yes, the frosting is like an inch thick. But guys, they’re sooooo goooood. Never dry, always delish and not too sweet so they won’t make your teeth hurt. They can also do almost whatever you want them to with the frosting, be it a special emblem, design or even a photo they magically transfer onto the cake. Magic! The shop itself if like a wonderland… Probably untouched since the 50s(or earlier), is has a classic old school charm that ads to the whole experience. Yes, parking on the hill is a pain. But when you find it(and you will), hit up Scialo Bros for the sweets… You can’t eat them there, but take ‘em home or find a bench to relax on whilst you delight in the delights. You won’t regret it.

Awesome Italian bakery in Providence. Love their pies and cakes. Very cool old-time kind of art-deco building.

Stopped here on a bus tour, got to see the brick ovens and learn about their breads and the family history of owning the place. Outstanding samples of various cookies and treats. All absolutely delicious! Don’t miss a stop here for great Italian breads and sweets.

I am not from the Providence area but I was visiting for the air show. One of our pilots was turning thirty and I need to get him a birthday cake. He had a super weird request of a strawberry cake. After calling around to a couple people I found this place that was 1) open on a Sunday 2) had a strawberry cake and 3) was willing to have it ready in just an hour and a half. This place could accomplish all three and produced the most delicious strawberry shortcake I’ve ever seen. Not only that, the whole thing cost me just $ 22. Amazing customer service, amazing quality of product. Totally recommend this place and will definitely come back if I’m in the area again!

Underwhelmed. Whew, day old pastry, over priced, no show of the oven that makes them famous, this deadly combo got me like :| I totally appreciate the traditional Italian method of baking which popularized this place, however, I wish they didn’t leave their pastries out to stale. I truly wanted to like my currant and preserve pastry, but it was chewy and gritty. Not a single flaky airy bite about it. This aged flour and butter also left a film in my mouth I honestly had to rid with a cocktail. Let’s also get this clear, it may very well be the time of day I visited, the staff who had to work on Memorial Day weekend… I’m not sure; but I am sure this bakery can, does, and will turn out fabulous baked goods. Unfortunately, today, at this particular hour, was just not that time. Bonus points for not having pictures of Chef Zimmern all over. I would return if given the opportunity.

Old school Italian bakery in every way. Biscotti cookies are great! Almond cupcake great! The cases are pure joy just to stare at, too. It’s beautiful bakery craftsmanship! Attached side parking lot makes it even better! Must visit!

A bakery where everything tasted even better than it looked. The crisp almond biscotti were fabulous. The pear and almond tarts were just rich enough. Garlic breadsticks, perfectly crunchy, subtly flavored. A banana walnut bread was dense, and loaded with good nuts. I suppose it could have been a touch moister, but it held up well. We came for the cannoli, which were gorgeous — almond dipped on one end, chocolate chipped on the other. I suppose cannoli purists will complain they were pre-filled and lacked the crunch of filled to order, but the filling was so artistic — I don’t think a busy counterperson could pull that off. I wish this bakery had a branch near me.

The mother lode! Holy cannoli is this place a gem! Cakes, cookies, cupcakes, pies, cheesecakes, torts, eclairs, napoleons, macaroons, cupcakes, formal cakes – OMG the hits just keep coming! We wandered around in a drunken stupor induced by baked goodness everywhere. We walked out with coconut macaroons, chocolate macaroons, almond cupcakes, Almond Joy bars, and biscottis, Every morsel was divine, and I have to say that the decadent Almond Joy bars are«Last Meal» worthy. So make your way to Federal Hill and be prepared to be overwhelmed.
