One of the most stressful things that a bride has to do is find her dress and work with someone to bring you to your special day. Caryn was with me every step of the way of this process. She reshaped the dress and offered her insight professionally. She was right on the money and it looks amazing. From the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable and knew I had chosen the right place. As I hugged her goodbye after our last fitting, I assured her that I would be back!

I recently needed last minute alterations done to the lace overlay on my wedding dress. I am thrills that Pochues paid attention to the little details and was ready to answer all of the questions and concerns I had. And! The best part was now my dress looks even better then before! I hope everyone will be glad to know there is one less stressed out bride out there in the world. Thank you!

Unfortunately I have to add my voice to the earlier review bemoaning Caryn’s lack of social skills and general unprofessionalism. She was perfectly polite and friendly when I originally dropped off my clothes for repairs, so I had no idea she was nursing a secret grudge against me for daring to negotiate the prices of a couple of extra repairs she offered to do for $ 5 each. Mind you, I am a humble grad student living on a humble grad student salary, which is apparently a type of clientele to which she is unaccustomed. Anyway, when I later called her to ask when I could pick up my clothes, she yelled at me for being «rude» and «insulting» to her with my insensitive quibbling over a mere $ 5, and quickly got herself so worked up she essentially hung up the phone on me. Then when I came to actually pick up the clothes (which I hesitated to even do given how nasty she’d been, but I love my couple of well-​worn knits and pants well enough that I decided it was worth it), she launched right back into her lecture, explaining to me with a look of incredible condescension that I’d better learn not to offend the sensibilities of businesspeople such as herself if I want to be their loyal client. Seriously? Oh, and she found a broken hem in my pants that she chose not to repair for me because of how terribly rude I was. Ugh… if you’re already a doting customer of this woman, then you’re in the clear, but if you’re not, then enter into a transaction with her at your own peril.

Caryn did a wonderful job on my wedding dress. The dress I purchased ended up being much larger than what I tried on in the store. She had to take it in almost two full dress sizes and took off quite a bit off the train. She was very professional and helpful in determining how much length/​width to remove while maintaining the original design of the dress. I would highly recommend her!

Recently I snagged a few RTW Givenchy Paris pieces that were miraculously on sale but far too large for me. Even on sale, these pieces were incredibly expensive and so I was terribly nervous about having them altered incorrectly. Though I live in Providence, I considered taking them to high-​end (and probably exorbitantly priced) tailors in Boston or New York, but when I found Pochues on Unilocal I called and asked for a consultation.
I can say with absolute certainty that Caryn is a master. Not only is she a remarkable craftsperson, but she has a great sense of design and proportion, and truly loves beautiful clothing. Caryn has a really kind and compassionate demeanor, and is very thoughtful of her client’s needs. Fittings were pleasant and easy, and Caryn asked each step of the way what I liked and what I didn’t while also proffering her own expertise.
I presented her with some pretty sophisticated work; the two Givenchy pieces were each terrifically intricate and detailed with embellished panels, ladder stitching, and seamless collars that would all have to be navigated carefully (in challenging fabrics/​mixed media to boot) to maintain the integrity of the design. She took one dress probably close to 2 sizes down, an incredible feat since the design of the dress centers around symmetrical studded panels throughout. Another dress had already been conservatively altered by a seamstress at Nordstrom who had been too anxious to make dramatic changes, but Caryn was unfazed and excited by the challenge. Altogether she did four dresses for me in the span of four weeks (wow!). The price was fair for the amount of work, and I’m so happy with how these garments have turned out and can’t wait to wear them out in the world now that they fit me!
From what she told me and what I’ve read here on Unilocal,Caryn does a lot of work with wedding pieces — but if you have premier designer garments that need to be tweaked or dramatically reworked and are wondering where to go in the Rhode Island/​MA area — bring them to Caryn at Pochues! I will be bringing all my alterations here from now on with confidence.

Caryn provided great service for the two bridesmaid dresses I’ve had altered. She is honest and straightforward but also makes you feel at ease. I love going there because I can walk home. It’s nice to have your neighborhood tailor!

This lovely lady was kind and caring when I came in with my dress in July and totally understood my fears regarding my bridesmaid dress, all it took was a short 15 minute poke and prod and she had my dress all pinned up to fit me. Now she does take only cash so ladies (and gents) put away the plastic.
My bridesmaid dress required the shoulder to be taken in, and a three layered hem taken in. She told me on first inspection that it would be $ 135.00 and asked if that was okay which was very professional of her and I appreciated that. I think I only had to put down a 60 $ deposit which she took out of the total.
Fast forward to the first week of August, and I’ve just picked up my dress and it was a hit! She got it right the first time no other alterations needed, she was so sweet and kind through the entire process. So if anyone needs a bridesmaid or dress in general fixed up to fit their body properly, Po Chues is the place to go!

I went there to get three pairs of pants hemmed. Caryn was friendly and very timely. It took less than 10 minutes! I got the pants back within three days and she did an excellent job.
I’m rating this ⁴⁄₅ stars only because of the price point. It was $ 14 per pair, which seems expensive (although I’m not sure what the going rate is for hemming pants). Otherwise, it was a good experience.
Tips:
–No credit cards! Be sure to bring cash or check.
–It seems like she specializes in wedding dresses, but she does men’s clothes too!

I meant to write this months ago but better late than never! Caryn was fantastic! I had two bridesmaids dresses that needed to be altered. They were both very similar and floor length. One of my dresses made me feel very insecure as it was several inches too long and the bust area was too large. Also, it had those wire rib cages and with me having a short torso, I had to raise my arms and shoulders just so the wires wouldn’t poke my underarms. I was wicked uncomfortable and worried that I would be miserable the entire wedding (I know, I’m not the bride but I’d still like to feel confident in what I was asked to wear!). For a reasonable price, Caryn worked her magic and altered the dresses to exactly how I needed them to be. She even showed me both ways that could have cut the top and told me which would be more expensive so I could make a decision based on what I could afford. She also did both dresses in a timely manner. I plan on going back if I ever need any other articles of clothing altered.

Caryn not only did a fabulous job on altering my all lace bridal gown, but she also made the entire experience so personal. I lost my mother two year ago, so I often went into my fittings alone. Caryn made me feel so comfortable AND beautiful. She was honest when I needed her opinion.
I have a larger chest and am often self conscious about it, but Caryn sewed in cups that allowed me to not wear a bra and keep me intact when it was time to dance!
My only tip to other brides is– if you plan on dancing barefoot at your reception, take off your shoes when she measures where to put your bustle :)

I found Caryn a month and a half before my wedding with an idea of a custom made bridal outfit. I was inspired by a picture I found online and the only way to replicate the elegance of it was to have it custom made. A corset I found had to be take in from a size 16 to a 2 and chiffon overlay was a design all on it’s own.
She turned my vision into an exquisite beauty and surpassed my expectations. Caryn has the vision and has remarkable craft.
Needless to say, I have found my very own tailor from here on out.

I’m writing this review years later but I’ll never forget the HORRIBLE experience I’ve had with this woman. I’m alwayssssss super friendly with people especially when they’re providing me some sort of service. Also working retail in my college years, I know how you SHOULD handle customers respectfully. But this woman? She seriously needs to work on her social skills. After finding her online I went with a friend as we both needed our dresses hemmed. This woman was the most unpleasant woman I’ve ever met. Not only was she rude but also very insulting. I regret not addressing how big of a jerk she was with her customer service /​social skills. I won’t rant on the entire encounter, but what I remembered most was when she referred to the dress as a «disaster» and even rudely LAUGHED when she asked «What was I thinking?» (Sidenote, these comments had nothing to do with the fact that I needed the dress hemmed a couple inches.) My friend even pointed out how much of a jerk she was. Never again.
Save yourself the drive. Find someone else. So not worth it.

Caryn is a true professional! She’s a a friendly, lovely person and her skills are impeccable. I’ve gone to her for about 10 years for everything from casual clothes to formal dresses. She really knows what she’s doing: she can work with any kind of fabric and she knows how to fit clothes and make them look great on you. I can’t say enough good things about the quality of her work!

Caryn is an absolutely PHENOMENAL tailor. I took my wedding dress to two tailors before her – none of which matched her skill and sophistication. After working with Caryn (admittedly last minute, TWO weeks before the wedding), I felt perfectly secure for the big day.
Caryn is not only the most detailed tailor I have ever worked with, but she is extremely conscientious of a bride’s needs on her wedding day. Ultimately, we have a few very simple concerns:
1) Not tripping down the aisle (the length has to be absolutely PERFECT and certainly not too long)
2) Not flashing our guests (strapless dresses that slide down on a bride’s wedding day are not okay! Not even a little! My first tailor told me that there was nothing she could do to keep it from sliding because of the material?! The second told me that I might gain weight before the wedding???)
Caryn not only tailored my dress to the absolute perfect length, but she also added an elastic strap to the top and «tacked» the bust line for a flawless fit and finish. The dress had 6 layers. It wasn’t an easy fix – but she made it seem so effortless.
I honestly do not know what I would have down without her. My dress felt stable and secure the entire day. I didn’t trip. I didn’t have to worry about it (which is seriously clutch because there are 28 394 289 other things to worry about on your wedding day!!).
I will be coming to Caryn from now on – no contest. There’s no better tailor in Providence!

I bought my wedding dress at David’s Bridal, but had heard mixed reviews about their alterations department. I am so glad that I went with Pochues. I had Karen hem the gown and add a bustle, which was complicated because of all the layers. (See Organza Gown with Fern Embroidery and Net Overlay). After just two fittings everything was perfect and I felt like my dress got the attention that it needed. I appreciate how Karen was so good at listening to my vision for the gown and still gave me valuable advice based on her experience.
When I put my wedding gown on the day of the wedding it fit perfectly, the length was perfect for an outdoor wedding, and Karen had even fixed a rip that I had made, but forgot to ask her to mend.

I took a dress here to be hemmed. It was a very simple job — a cotton dress with lining that needed the hem taken up a few inches. She was very nice and I got my dress back in just a few days. It cost $ 30 so I don’t know how that compares to other places.
When I got it back, it was the right length and looked fine. But when I went home I noticed that the pins she used left holes in the fabric. I feel like if you have been in the business for as long as she has, you might have a better idea of what types of pins to use or ways to pin the fabric so that it doesn’t make a hole.
Hold up, let me back up for a second. This was my wedding dress. I was going to the mountains to elope and I chose a simple Nanette Lepore frock. It wasn’t an elaborate dress, the holes didn’t show in photos and I didn’t want to seem like a bridezilla so I didn’t go back in and make a fuss. But I can imagine many other women would be enraged if this happened to their wedding gown, how ever small it may seem. I was still disappointed and it makes me hesitant to go back. Shouldn’t you treat everyone’s clothes as if it were a priceless wedding gown?

You can tell when someone takes pride in their work, Caryn did a great job tailoring my poor fitting sports coat. If you’re looking for great workmanship and fair prices PO Chue’s is a good choice.
