Nostalgia Providence

This place is pure magic! An AWESOME treasure chest of finds-​with everything from LP’s, to clothes, to art work and SO much more. The staff is welcoming and Joyous and really are key in making visiting this store something you’ll want to do again and again. I usually feel overwhelmed in resale stores/​but not here. Things are arranged in a way that makes the experience a wonderful adventure. I LOVE this place!

Stopped in here on a whim and so glad I did! 3 floors of eclectic, antiques in good-​to-​excellent condition. Definitely something for everyone, makes for some fun browsing.

I LOVE this place! You have to be ready and willing to put in the work of searching for what you’ve got in mind or picking through for something you didn’t know you’d like, but the finds are just wonderful. I nabbed a pair of crystal clip-​on earrings for $ 4 here and have never received so many compliments on ANYTHING before. I’ve also gotten some smaller doodads for my apartment here. This store brings the old adage «one man’s trash is another man’s treasure» to life, and right on the East Side of Providence. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

WOW is all I can say. If you have a couple of hours and are in the area this is definitely a place to poke around.
From the basement to the 3^rd floor Nostalgia Providence is chock full of pretty much anything. From knick-​knacks to clothing there is something for everyone here. It seemed to me that most of the space in the store was rented to various sellers so it makes for a pretty eclectic shopping experience. It’s fun just to go from room to room but if you don’t know what you are searching for it can get a bit over whelming, especially the basement where I felt it got a bit claustrophobic.
I suggest your fuel up with some lunch or coffee at one of the cute shops along Wickenden Street before you go. This is one store where all your senses will be put into play.

Unbelievable finds, at super affordable prices (given the quality). I walked in and found a three piece suit, a dinner jacket, a corduroy sport coat, two pairs of dress shoes, a brooch, a hat, and even an old Aussie boomerang. On a bike… I had to buy a pannier from the shop down the street just to haul it all away!
I spent over three hundred dollars in one sitting. And I have no regrets, because I just replaced half my wardrobe with vintage pieces that fit me perfectly and will last twenty years. It’s a good thing I couldn’t carry away furniture too!

My mom is impossibe to shop for, as she has everything. I was able to find a hand made vintage coffee decantor bird house at Nostalgia! was perfect and she loved it! plus it went right outside for the birds!

I was very happy to find this sweet thirft consignment shop! Three levels of random odds and ends, furnishings, clothes, and all kinds of funky junk! The owner was SO nice and friendly. I ended up buying a beautiful bright orange silky skirt with a teal pattern on it circa 1950s. At 16 dollars, I thought it was very reasonably priced! I can’t wait to go back again to see what I’ll find!

I like what Nostalgia brings to Wickenden street. It nicely complements the other businesses and provides the perfect size consignment and vintage store to browse through on an afternoon stroll.
I am not entirely sure how their merchandise is set up, but to me it seems the first floor is their own merchandise, and then the stalls upstairs, the basement, and rooms that jut off of the large main room downstairs are outside vendors/​coop members (correct me if I’m wrong, please! I am curious!)
A little bit of everything is available, and that’s nice– furniture, clothing, housewares. The first floor is where the key quality big ticket items are housed. Many desks and hutches, and a rack of wedding dresses! Upstairs there is a focus on kitschy items and knick knacks. It appears since the first time I went they had to implement an employee sitting upstairs by the door to deter sticky fingers.
The basement is rough, I won’t lie. Stuff is sort of piled and isn’t as clean and pristine as one might hope when consigning, but this is where I have found gold… most recently the Pyrex Wheat pattern mixing bowl I have been looking for to complete my set for $ 7, no chips, no wear on the pattern. Awesome. They even wrapped it up snugly in newspaper and gave me a bag to tote it around it for the rest of my stroll.

I have fun in shops like Nostalgia where you just never know what you might come across. My daughter found an antique map book for my husband for a gift for a decent price and I found a vintage costume-​jewelry necklace for an excellent price. There are three floors of consignment items with a heavy offering of antique glass products/​china and vintage clothing. It’s in my neighborhood so I’ll definitely stop in from time to time to see what I might find. Here’s why I gave it just three stars: the owner (at least I think it was the owner as he acted like he owned the place if you get my drift). When I made a purchase the first time, he snipped off the tag and left the string dangling from the necklace. He tried for a moment to remove the string but saw that it was going to be difficult so shrugged (literally, shrugged) and put the necklace in the bag. I came home and had to get tweezers and finally got the string off. It’s a small thing but it matters. They hadn’t thought about where to place the string/​tag and when he realized it was going to be difficult, left it for the customer to fix. I’d also inquired about something I’d seen in the window. «That’s NOT for sale. It’s part of the display,» he told me with a bit of an air of disdain. Really? It’s a consignment shop. Isn’t EVERYTHING that’s on display for sale? Finally, when I inquired before the holidays about sleds (I wanted it as part of my outdoor holiday display) I was told by him that, «Those just do not sell.» Um, if you’d had one, I’d have bought it so I guess they do sell. I love this kind of shop but I“d be happier to return if the staff were more pleasant.

We went in last week and liked what we saw so far. Three stories of second hand fun. Strengths appear to be in clothing consignment… a nice variety. Upstairs is Knickknacks Land. It was freezing cold up there in the dead of winter. Looked like there was some cool stuff, but I could see my breath and nearly passed out from hypothermia. Basement was kinda junky, but good old wedding gowns and some more interesting tchotchkes. Prices seemed pretty reasonable with some expensive spots. Friendly staff. But nothing really new or innovative. Seen one secondhand shop, seen them all.
