I have lived on the East Side about 7 years and have been a member of The Brown Gym (before and after the renovation) Planet Fitness on the Westside, and Boston Sports club on Pitman St. I can easily say that the JCC is easily my favorite. The trainers are unsurpassed in friendliness, approachability, and helpfulness. The equipment is is varied and adequate. I use the machines, free weights, TRX, kettlebells, and I attend some classes. I have found nothing to be lacking. I have not used the pool yet, but the locker rooms are comfortable and clean. Yes, the facility is small overall. I am lucky enough to be able to go during the daytime hours, and I understand that the before/​after work crowd can be a big factor for many people. I really love that this is a community center and that there is a great mix of people in the gym.

I did not like this place at all the customer service was terrible as of lately. I noticed they let go a few of my favorite workers and now I see life guards at the pool texting. They say they redid the pool but there’s a giant stain at the bottom that looks disgusting. Why even have hot tubs if there not gonna work. And the smell in the bathrooms don’t even get me started it’s called Clorox. I put one star but I wish I could put –5 stars.
