Definitely new school Brooklyn trying to seem old school BK, with a bright space and some great products at prices you’d expect. Friendly staffers knowledgeable enough about the offerings.

A great spot to pick up fresh bread and cheese after work. Friendly staff and good local finds. I’m a big fan of the roast pork sandwich.

Multiple times a week, I run over to R&D for baguettes, coffee, cheese, olive — & occasionally sausages, bacon, or amazing organic beef. The folks there have excellent products, & are pleasant & knowledgable — I couldn’t count the number of times I’ve walked in & said, ok we’re having this for dinner, which of these cheeses will complement XYZ the best? R&D doesn’t let me down.
I love having this little place nearby. Yes, a bit spendy, but so delightful. I don’t really buy any of their prepared foods (one rotisserie chicken, which was excellent), so I can’t attest to those items, but we’ve never been disappointed in the quality of things procured from R&D. Keep it up, kiddos.

We have had R & D cater a number of our work lunches and I get excited every time I catch wind that another meal from them is coming! The sandwiches are delicious… some of my favorites have been the pork, the Gruyère and avocado, and the BLT. I’ve also heard good things about the tofu and whitefish salad sandwiches but haven’t tried them yet. The bread and rolls are fresh and complement the sandwiches well.
For the salads, the kale salad is fantastic and I would eat it everyday if I could! Also got to try the cucumber salad this week and would give that a thumbs up as well. Last but not least… the homemade donuts are a must try! They have a few flavors (plain, cinnamon, powdered sugar) and all are yummy.
Perfect place to grab a bite if you have someone with a food restriction, plenty of options for vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-​free folks. Also a great spot to grab a picnic lunch before heading over to Prospect Park. They have chips, candy, and other little add ons that are displayed nicely in the shop. I’ve been to the physical location only once and thought it was very well decorated and offered a welcome ambiance. The staff was friendly and accommodating and willing to answer any questions about their menu. There’s even some seating if you want to enjoy your food or beverage there!
Best of all, you’re right near ample hills to grab some ice cream after your healthy meal :)

Nice positive vibes in the store. I like it when the employees seem happy and they always smile. I came in here twice for the same thing and loved it. Salmon lox on a bialy with CC and capers it’s delicious! The coffee is good too. Always good to support little local stores because the rent is so high for these people. Nice atmosphere and nice place to hang with a few friends.

The groceries in this store are more on the expensive side but are always unique and interesting. What I love this most is their sandwiches. The fried egg breakfast sandwiches are really wonderful and the specific bread and toppings they use make them better than most!

I agree with the other reviews, a bit on the pricey side but you do get quality ingredients in your sandwiches. Perhaps they can make the portions a tad bit bigger?
We had the Zucchini Quesadilla ($ 10) Pulled Chicken Sandwich ($ 11) and ice coffee ($ 3.75). All good but the Quesadilla stood out!

R&D Foods is such a sweet addition to the Vanderbilt culinary experience. The donuts are pure delight, so is the chocolate seed pound cake. The range of gift and specialty products they have is superb and I love that they also serve scrumptious healthy salads and sandwiches. I also recently had a dinner party partially catered by R&D Foods and it was excellent (it made throwing a dinner party for 16 realistic and fun).

There are few moments in this world as fulfilling as having a fantastic meal from a fantastic local establishment. Showing off the highlights of your neighborhood is a badge of pride, and although Vanderbilt has some great spots, R&D Foods is a hands down winner for inventive sandwiches, fun specialty foodstuffs and homespun baked goodness.
The folks at R&D Foods care a great deal about your experience, and their friendly, laid back manner adds to the ambiance immensely.

When I moved to the area I think I got lunch here everyday. They have amazing fresh prepared foods including roast chickens and sandwiches. They have daily specials of side salads, roasted veggies etc. I prefer the prepared foods by the pound to the sandwiches, however the tofu hero is a favorite. They also have amazing donuts and some other baked goods. They serve Brooklyn Roasters coffee which is great. They also have an amazing selection of artisanal products from miso and curry paste to cheeses and charcuterie. It’s a solid spot and a great addition to the neighborhood. Great place to grab food and head to prospect park for a picnic.

With all the competition R&D foods needs to be aligned with what the neighborhood requests. Being a family friendly area you have to give people what they want. It’s just a business. People are much more attentive to what they spend and you have to be careful not to overprice or disappoint your customers because their sandwich came out too small. It costs NOTHING to make it half an inch bigger. And if that ½ inch makes a difference, your food cost is way too high. People move to Brooklyn also cause it’s cheaper.
Their restaurant wasn’t friendly with changes and substitutions (something new yorkers are very accustomed to) and quite pricey for the area. I like this shop very much, I am just tired of places closing after a year or two.

sandwiches are small. not big enough for a grown man.
i had the ham and cheese (they couldnt replace the carrot mustard which i’m allergic to). it was overpowered with bitterness by a pungent mustard better fit as a weapon than as a condiment. nearly inedible, but i shoveled it in, having just spent $ 10 on it.

This is my big splurge place. The morning coffee rocks (brooklyn roast). The breakfast sandwiches are sublime. They have a super eclectic weird foodie selection of stuff that spans four continents. You can get farm fresh eggs, local spinach, cheese, excellent bread-​you know the «essentials». They are expensive but the quality is awesome. Did I mention they have the sweetest team of staff!

Great place.
Enjoyed the whitefish salad sandwich and blonde hot chocolate. The whitefish sandwich was amaze balls. The hot chocolate was the best I have ever had… although dunkin donuts came close with their salted caramel hot chocolate. The place has very limited seating in their deli store… but if you can get a seat you will be in front of a great big window looking out onto the street… it was great sitting there while it was raining and so very windy looking at all those miserable people out there… lol.
They also have a restaurant next door, I am sure the food is probably amazing. I also like the delis hours… opening pretty early at 8a.
Staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. Place was very clean.

I was on the phone, traversing across St. Marks on my way to Franklin Park for a birthday celebration and hoping to magically run into some baked goods on the way. After several blocks headed east, I saw a girl with a tantalizingly well-​formed cinnamon sugar doughnut in her hands. Stop. «Excuse me, but where did you get that?». She helpfully pointed to R&D foods, so I apologized to my friend on the phone and ran in.
The shop is small but well-​stocked with high-​quality meats, breads, cheeses, coffees, and most importantly at the time, baked goods. I ended up purchasing a fair amount of challah bread pudding and bringing it to the birthday party. Needless to say (4 stars, after all), it was a hit. Stealing the final crumbs out of the bag level of hit.
The folks at the counter were super nice and apologized to my temporarily ignored friend on the phone (I put it down on the counter while ordering and paying). I’ll definitely be back for the donuts and for future Nethermead-​picnic supplies. Thanks, random doughnut girl on the sidewalk!

Best provisions store in the hood! I honestly can’t get enough of their home made sodas and sandwiches.
The staff is super helpful, friendly and knowledgeable and make me smile every time I come in. I love this place!

I come here maybe once a week. Donuts are killer, some of the best I’ve ever had. Sandwiches are pretty good. Small and a little bit too pricey. The Horse and Pig and BLT are great. My only complaint is the fried egg sandwich for $ 7. It was really small, limp, with a dry, fried egg and pathetic piece of veg and a ton of cheddar. It was tiny! Like the size of a baby’s fist. I would really think that something this simple the people at R&D could totally nail. I wish I could bring in the glorious breakfast sandwich from Lincoln Station and show them how it’s done properly. Or better yet, I wish I just ordered a $ 2.50 amazing bodega egg sandwich from the corner store.

I’m one of the seemingly rare people who live in the area who hasn’t been to 606 R&D, but I’m definitely going to give it a try after trying its sister grocery/​bakery/​coffee shop two doors down.
It’s essentially Vanderbilt’s answer to Bklyn Larder on Flatbush — the high-​end grocery/​drinks section is not quite as extensive at R&D but there’s a lot of neat stuff, plus they have fantastic fresh loaves of bread, housemade doughnuts and pastries, and great coffee. I’ve had an open-​faced fresh ricotta and heirloom tomato sandwich that was knock-​your-​socks off good as well.
There are a few seats up front facing out the window onto the street. The staff is friendly and helpful. Great new (ish) shop!
