The Home Depot

Probably the worst Home Depot customer service in NJ. I went to purchase a hedge trimmer and the guy in the department was rude. Made unnecessary comments and had an attitude while answering questions.

Me and my husband rehabbed a Veteran’s house. At the beginning of the project, we asked the store manager how the Veteran’s discount worked and if we could bring in this gentleman one time to show his Veteran’s card. This Veteran is in a wheelchair and is not mobile, so we wanted to ensure we didn’t have to bring him everytime we made a purchase. The store manager told us that we could bring him in at the end of the project, but to save all of our receipts. We asked many other times throughout the year-​long process and were always told that it was OK to bring him in at the end of the project. Well, at the end I returned to Home Depot with the Veteran (had to rent a van to accommodate his wheelchair) and were told by the store manager that they would not honor the 10% Veteran’s discount because of the sheer magnitude of the receipts. He said he didn’t have the manpower to process all the discounts for every receipt. More insult arrived after I complained to Corporate and were offered a $ 100.00 gift card but had to sign a waiver that we would not take any further action against Home Depot. Lowes, on the other hand, were happy to grant us the discount at the end of the project. Do not go to Home Depot. They do not honor our Veterans.

Home Depot has a lot of stuff. Big stuff. Little stuff. Stuff made in China. Lots of that. But you do have to look very hard to find anything that is truly good quality. Can there really be that many people out there who say, «Give me the cheapest possible mop, and I don’t care if it falls apart in 6 months!»? Kind of depressing. I try to go to my local hardware store as much as I can, but I needed a part for an Andersen door (a brand which HD sells) so I expected they might have it. Nope. Nada. In fact, it took me about ten minutes to locate someone who said they’d need to order one for me. Uh, I can do that too. You need CFL light bulbs or deck screws? This is your place. Otherwise, I advise shopping online… elsewhere.

Whatever you do, do not purchase any appliances through Home Depot Online. This is not reflective of purchasing at this specific store, but when things went awry with the dryer installation (7 service calls and things are still not right), the store c (w)ould not help us. They said that anything purchased online is completely separate. Then, the online service did not help us. The manufacturer similarly abandoned us, saying that it was a Home Depot installation problem. I will NEVER make a big purchase from Home Depot again and warn you against it, as well.

Do not use this home depot store to do your kitchen installation, I repeat, do not use this home depot store to do your kitchen! The contractors they hire are completely sub-​par and they are not even cheap. I have a very small kitchen, due to the dis-​organized contractors that home depot work with, I was without a kitchen for 2 months, and end up with an old fridge in my dining room — nobody the general contractor hired want to admit it’s part of their job, they pulled my old kitchen to the dining room at the first place! Now after they put in the new fridge, they can’t even remove the old fridge for me. This is after the 10s of thousands I have paid these people, no, home depot! Home Depot only collects money and has no care whatsoever about the customer’s experience. It’s ok to buy the cabinet from them, the cabinets are decent, but refuse the installation service and find your own contractors.

Avoid. Poor customer service, and their online reviews are censored.
I recently submitted a thoughtful review on Home Depot’s website of a storm door manufactured and sold by Home Depot which I bought at the Princeton store. The review gave the product five stars after 13 years of use despite certain issues. Two days later, I got an email saying my review was rejected, and also saying: «Avoid writing about customer service issues — instead, contact us to discuss your concerns». In my long review, I had casually mentioned that, after losing the insect screen, I had made several trips to Home Depot to try and get it replaced, but without success. And for this, they recommend that I contact their customer service department?
Instead, I think I will just go to Lowe’s in future. I was telling the truth, being generally positive, giving a 5-​star review of their own product despite the lousy customer service. So now, I will blog about them being liars instead, and boycott the company forever. Smart, Home Depot, smart. Censor online reviews so that the truth is being avoided. That will help the public image, right?

Left my wallet there and they called me to return it! That seems pretty A-​OK to me :) Thanks!

Specifically for the Key Cutting Services…
Pro: They have a key cutting department with chips. Not all HD’s have this capacity. They will tell you when their outside vender is available to make a copy of your key and program your chip. The vender will also ensure the chip works.
Con: I am standing here waiting for the vendor because he is 1 hour and 30 minutes late for his 2 hour shift.
I scheduled my day around the two hour window. I could have been working or doing something productive instead of standing here for the last 45 minutes. What this tells me is I can not depend on HD & the vendor to provide services as advertised.
Call before you come to make sure you don’t waste your time. So disappointing. I usually like HD. At least the HD guys here are nice about the whole situation.

I came here to look around and it was pretty nice. The workers asked us several times if we needed help (a nice contrast to our local HD that ignore us). Also this place is well stocked with a ton of products I could previously only find online.

I had a very good experience at this Home Depot.
While I understand the other reviewer’s frustration about home installs, my in-​store experience with service was great. I am a novice working on a big woodworking project, so I was a bit intimidated by the lumber section. I didn’t even have to approach anyone with my vague questions, before I heard a friendly voice, Terry asking me if I wanted help. Well, the two of us discussed my vague ideas and came up with a plan, and Terry spent over an hour with me choosing the best pieces of wood from the stock, and cutting every piece I needed to size. Now THAT’s service. He was really upbeat the whole time, and asked to see pictures of my project when I return. I will certainly be doing so for this project from now on!
P. S. The only reason why I left off a star is because I’m a novice woodworker, and if my wood needs were more, I would probably I’d probably be a little disappointed with Home Depot’s lumber selection.

I’ve been to this location at least 6 times during the past 2 weeks (couldn’t find hammer, so found a nicely weighted one for $ 3.87; needed flourescent lightbulbs, and they’re $ 3.88 for a pack of 4 in either 40Watt (9 watt fluorescent) or 60 (15 watt); needed spare keys and got 2 normal ones, and one each as Batman and Taz – I was in a strange mood).
Everyone was really helpful, and I love the self-​checkout.

I recently received a gift card to Home Depot. I had decided long ago that Lowes blows Home Depot away, but I had a gift card to spend.
My expedition to Home Depot was to purchase a drain pipe extension. My old one had grown a pair of legs (most likely those of my 6 year-​old neighbor who can be a real PIA) and walked away. All I needed was a two foot piece.
After walking up and down several aisles, I couldn’t find the gutter material. So then I start looking for a sales person. Five minutes of more wandering, I found one and am directed to the right aisle.
I get there, only to find 10 foot pieces. So I go to the service desk to ask if they can cut one for me. But before I ask, I have to stand there for 10 minutes (seriously) to wait to ask someone.
The girl who finally gets around to waiting on me makes a call, sorry, we can’t cut it for you.
When I inquire «how am I supposed to fit a 10 foot piece of aluminum in my car,»
I received the response, «I dunno.»
Thanks for the customer service Home Depot! And for confirming why I give Lowes my business.
Now on to Lowes…
