Residence Inn Princeton-South Brunswick

This hotel property is over 25 years old and has not really been updated. I was told I got a newer unit; and while it was kind of neat to get a two floor unit; I simply cannot recommend it. The floor upstairs squeaked with every step and the shower pressure was non existent (the shower pull doesn’t direct all the water into shower mode). There is no gym, no restaurant on the property. I would say if the only thing you were looking for was a place to lay your head go with it. There were plenty more hotels along Rt 1 that were probably newer and nicer.
The free breakfast this chain offers was not good at all. I guess if you settled for cereal and a bagel you would be fine.

Still terrible! Pathetic service. unhelpful staff and rooms and appliances dating back to Stone Age. pls don’t stay here. EVER!

We needed someplace to stay during a nearby lacrosse tournament and unfortunately I booked us a suite here without visiting Unilocal first.
The first room we checked in to was 80 degrees and stuffy when we first arrived. We turned the AC down and left for 2 hours. When we returned the room was only down to 78 and still very stuffy. We called the front desk and explained the issue, they said someone would be right there. An hour later we had to call the desk again. When someone finally arrived the technician first implied it was our fault it wasn’t working and left. Then he returned 15 minutes later to find still no cold air. He replaced the thermostat, ensured us that would fix the problem and left. When the room still had not cooled off the desk offered to switch our room, but they would have to put us in a smaller room.
We moved to the smaller room, which was at least colder. It was not very clean and it took us 3 more calls to the desk to get one extra blanket for the sofa bed.
There are lots of other options within 2 – 3 miles and you would be better off staying ANYWHERE else.

In one word… terrible
I’m on my 2^nd week in this hotel as part of a job relocation temp staying with my family. Like others have pointed out, there is nothing within walking distance and you will definitely need a car to go to dinner, shopping, etc. I’m staying at a suite with an upstairs loft. The room is spacious but has problems. For example some closet doors don’t work very well, come off the hinges, the toilet upstairs runs all the time and you have to manually place the stopper inside the tank. The maid service is horrible and they don’t do their job. Twice we had to tell them to re-​do the bathrooms. Furthermore, they seem to be ok with just making the beds and they don’t dust or vacuum. They offer free breakfast, but the food is terrible as one might expect. They also have a pool which is nice for kids, but it gets dirty and cloudy when there are a lot of guests using it. The gym is decent, mainly for cardio and they offer towels. In-​room internet is wi-​fi only and it worked ok most of the time, though at times it drops signal. Overall, I don’t recommend this hotel because of its poor location, old facility, below-​to-​average maid service, below-​to-​average hygiene, and way too overpriced for the rate that they are charging my company. I’m sure there are better places around Princeton for the same price.

Like an idiot I gave this place a second chance and stayed for a week. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The facilities are DUMPY. Sorry, this place causes depression.

I’m at a loss on this one. I didn’t think twice about booking at a Marriott facility, they’ve always been good to me. This place taught me the error of my ways.
The good:
The staff is very friendly and happy to help if they can. The grounds are nicely kept, the pool and fitness center are nice.
Beds are comfortable. Air conditioning works well. Water runs as expected.
The bad:
I found a couple of spots in the room that haven’t been cleaned in a very long time. I found a dated receipt from over a year ago in one of the nasty areas.
Some of the curtains have nasty stains on them.
The garbage disposal smelled like something had died in it.
The carpets are splitting at the seams.
I tripped over the uncovered electrical outlet in the main living area.
My wife tripped over one the tiles popping out if the entryway floor.
The room feels very dated. Upgrades trough the years were not well done, some of the work looks really bad.
There are switches all over the place and it’s not at all intuitive as to which switch controls what.
The kitchen area was not well stocked compared to many at similar facilities.
Summary:
I’ve stayed in much nicer places for a lot less money. You can probably find something better (and likely a lot cheaper) given the sheer volume of accommodations in the area.

Stayed at this hotel, because a friend recommended the place.
1. Room was large enough for two comfortably.
2. Clean and comfortable furniture.
3. Very nice accommodating staff.
4. Initially, entrance was hard to find.
5. Finding parking was challenging on some days.
4. The complex I was in seem a little old, because I could hear the footsteps from upstairs.

This trip was a comedy of errors beyond reason. And this hotel was just one of the parts.
Much of the below is my husbands review… wtih my modifications. Why be lazy and not write it myself? omg. This trip took a couple years off my life. Just trust me. I am more just telling you that my husband was not making this up.
Just go somewhere else and not this place.
Summary: if you want to get some sleep and stay at a well maintained place this isn’t it.
Mayhem started checking in at 3 – 4 am and went down hill from there.
THE ONLY REASON WE FOUND THE PLACE? Was because ANOTHER Residence Inn gave us directions and warned us. We should have just had the hotel points transfered right then and there.
We could not find the place. Its like you pass the place… go way down the block, turn right, then follow it all the way around.
Checked in at 3am and the front office wasn’t sure if a room was ready or not even thought I called 8 hours prior telling them I’ll be checking in late. At that time they assured me that a room would be ready when I arrived. 15 minutes later I was given a key card and a room number. The parking lot was full so I had to park in the «back 40» far from the room. I was finally met by a staff member making sure room was clean while entering.
3 hours later the up stairs person starts running laps at 7am and finished the half marathon in 3 hours. I can’t believe a person can walk around that much in a studio. 8 am cleaning staff MEETING is held outside our door. I think I was suppose to take the minutes because they were so loud. Finally, closet door fell off it hinge. All this before 9am. Remind you, I went to bed at 4am.
Went to the front office to get a different room and to report a defective door. The said they couldn’t move me till after 1pm. The staff didn’t think the door was that much of an issue. When I brought it to their attention that it was a safety issue, they changed their tune. When a door falls off it’s hinges towards me and I have to lay it against the wall there is something wrong. They weren’t even apologetic about the mayhem in their hotel or delays (I understand that they can’t control the upstairs person, but the staff and closet door is well within the control). Satellite TV is also on the blitz some stations came in while snow and white noise on other stations.
Returned to the room to lay down (mind you I’ve only had 3 hours sleep after traveling for 12 hours) when staff member came to fix the closet door. The door really needs to be replaced, fixing it with a screw driver and vice grips really doesn’t fix the problem but more of a band-​aid. I stared at the snow on the TV while he fixed the door. Didn’t feel like surfing the channels.
Went back to the front office at 1pm to change rooms. After threatening to go to a «Courtyard» down the street they front office staff moved me to an upstairs room away from foot traffic.
The bed is comfortable. The rooms are well stocked with cooking utensils. Free wireless internet works falsely. If one could get a good room on the second floor to start with then the stay maybe okay. They do show up quickly to fix what ever is broken.
Update: The second room was not as noisy but still had its issues. First the door to the room is paper thin any noise can be heard. Secondly, the door code changed so I had to get the card keys recoded.
Internet is painfully slow at 300kbps download and 1.5Mbps upload (ya that makes sense).
Finally, the guest computer printer was broken so I had to have the front desk clerk print out my boarding pass, which they did 3 times. I asked them for the copies because they said they would throw the extras away. With all that was going on, I really didn’t trust them to destroy plane boarding passes.
Grounds need to be better cleaned up a bit more, beer cans laying in the plants.

Summery: if you want to get some sleep and stay at a well maintained place this isn’t it.

On a positive note, the décor is pleasant enough and in good shape. The bed is comfortable. The rooms are well stocked with cooking utensils. Free wireless internet works falsely. If one could get a good room on the second floor to start with then the stay maybe okay. They do show up quickly to fix what ever is broken.
It isn’t the worse hole in the wall hotel I’ve stayed at but for a Residence Inn it has to be one of the worst. I’ve had better experiences at Hotel 9 in the middle of nowhere. If you know what you want and willing to fight for it this place is okay, if not you might want to consider another hotel down the street because there is a lot of them.

The breakfast are eatable, I’d personally stick to the bagels and cream cheese with the yogurt. The coffee is the basic rot gut. Drinkable with enough cream and sugar.
On a positive note, the gym, hot tub and pool are nice. The staff is friendly. Personally, I won’t be going back here.

Stay away! This hotel is a joke on almost every level.
For starters it’s impossible to find. If you put the actual address into your car GPS you’ll find yourself lost about three miles away. And when you do find it you have to do illegal left turns to get into — and out of – the parking lot. When we checked in we were given electronic room keys to someone else’s room, which we didn’t realize until we were fully inside. The staff was unapologetic and unfazed, as if this happens all the time. The room dark, dated, and dank. Worse yet, there was a roomful of kids directly above us pounding and careening around until after midnight. It turned out that multiple sets of parents had locked their wound up tykes in a room so they could go down to the pool and party. Again, the hotel staff was useless, unfazed, and unapologetic. With all the hotel choices near Princeton, these people need to try much harder.

The largest sundry selection I have ever seen! Very nice staff… The property is a lil dated for sure and I had some minor issues with my room kitchen and bathroom they were prompt to fix it but it definitely illustrates a failure on the housekeeping front… My room smelled of cigars and they needed to ozone it they offered to change my room but it was late when I checked in and I did not have the energy to move my stuff… Either way it was a good spot I really love Residence Inns, one of my favorite chains for sure!
