Having dealt with a limited number of real estate companies, I have little idea whether Long and Foster is on par with their competition.
What I can say is that their services are not worth the money you pay them via your house purchase. Our realtor was not knowledgeable or competent. He was not a good listener. He didn’t ask good questions of the sellers, nor could he answer our questions. He tried to bully us into buying a house we didn’t want, then became sulky when the offer was rejected. He did nothing that we couldn’t have done ourselves.
There is quite a horse-​and-​pony show when you first go in. It is very smooth and polished but it is not realistic. Their interests are in conflict with yours — they want you to buy the most expensive house as quickly as possible so that they can make their money.
You are better off if you do your own research (you’ll have to in the end anyway). Pay your title company, pay the lawyer, pay your inspector, but don’t throw away the equivalent of 5,000 to 10,000 dollars of your purchase price at glorified chauffeurs.
