Sadly, it is time for me to move to another bank.
In the 30 years or so I’ve been with them, the folks at the Delaware County Bank have been very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. Because of the people I’ve dealt with at The Bank, I am not real happy about my decision to change banks.
I spend a bunch of time out of state, and in order to make my banking easier, I opened an account with Chase while keeping my Delaware County Bank account. I also have a PayPal account. Not too long ago, I grabbed my Delaware County Bank debit card by mistake — it is the same color as my PayPal card. The charge I made by mistake on the Delaware County Bank card cause me to be overdrawn and be charged an overdraft fee. The nice folks at the branch checked my records, determined it was my first overdraft, and reversed the fee. All good stuff.
This past Saturday, a check was deposited a check in my account. I’ve grown accustomed to Chase and PayPal posting all transactions immediately, and totally forgot that The Delaware County Bank considers any deposits made on Saturday to be Monday transactions. I paid for a few things on Sunday with my Delaware County Bank debit card. However, since Saturday’s deposit is considered to be a Monday transaction, I find myself out of state, looking at an online statement that shows me $ 6 in the red. At midnight tonight I will be hit with an overdraft charge, which I’m guessing is $ 35, after which the check deposited Saturday morning will be credited to my account, though the funds may not be available until midnight Tuesday.
If something like this happened with my Chase account, I could head over to a Chase ATM, withdraw a few bucks from my PayPal account and deposit it into my Chase account. But The Bank isn’t allowed to accept deposits made outside of Ohio. Actually, if a check had been deposited into my Chase account Saturday morning, the funds would have been available at 11 PM Saturday night and I wouldn’t have overdrawn my account.
If I spent all my time within easy driving distance of a Delaware County Bank ATM, I would continue to be a long-​term, satisfied Delaware County Bank customer. I am very happy with the personnel at The Delaware County Bank and have always received outstanding service in the bank. If you’re going to spend all your life within easy driving distance of an ATM affiliated with The Delaware County Bank, I recommend them highly. If, however, you’re going to ever be outside Ohio, you might look for a bigger bank.
