Professional, precise, caring, patient, and with a good sense of humor. That was the impression Dr Winternitz left on us. My mom had a bad fall and broke her wrist a month ago. Dr Winternitz happen to be the doctor on call and fixed all the fractures within 2.5 hours! I cannot imagine how my mom’s wrist will line if it was not Dr Winternitz who did the surgery …
He is not only skillful on fixing things in the surgery room but also cares enough to follow up with my Mom’s post surgery status. He is responsive on text messages and calls during weekends or after hours when we need his professional assessment and opinion. of course we only communicate if seriously concerned .
Overall, I think Dr Winternitz can be the benchmark for a five star orthopedic surgeon!

If I could give Dr. Winternitz 6 stars, I’d still want to give more!
I broke my finger pretty badly March 26^th and had been seen more than 3 Doctors! Each sending me from place to place, not answering or returning phone calls, and even losing files in the span of 2 weeks! Not one Doctor, or even members of their team seemed to care at all about my situation. It was very disheartening.
After assuming my finger was never going to be fixed, a friend referred me to Dr. Winternitz. I was apprehensive at first because of my health insurance (Medi-​Cal), but he decided he would have a look. EVERYONE who worked with me was extremely kind, caring and compassionate (finally members of a healthcare team who know what it’s all about)!! Excellent staff!
Dr. Winternitz has the best bedside manner! He did more for me in the first 5 minutes than anyone had in over 2 ½ weeks post injury. It took him all of less than 10 minutes, lidocaine and a pencil — yes a pencil — to put my finger back in place! So much for needing that surgery every Doctor was so gun-​ho on having me receive! After several visits to check placement and only 2 hand therapy visits, I have regained full motion.
I am forever grateful for the kindness and care of Dr. Winternitz and staff!

I went to see Dr. Winternitz for shoulder issues resulting from multiple dislocations while surfing. I have thought for years that I had damaged it to where it could dislocate at any time. I reduced my activities and lived with it for years. After discussing options we decided to do surgery and began the tests. Through those results and a follow-​up exam, the doctor believed that my problem was not as bad as we thought. We revised the surgery plan and went ahead. Excellent care at Pomerado Hospital in Poway and a very successful surgery by Dr. Winternitz! I did not need a reconstruction as we originally thought just a cleaning of debris form the shoulder socket. I was home the same day and had very minor pain, almost none. I was doing routine things around the house in no time and back riding motorcycles in less than two weeks.
For my follow-​up appointment I confused the days and showed up on the doctor’s day off. He happened to be in the office and saw me anyway! Took the time to go through my after care and clear me to do all activities (within reason).
Summary: Excellent diagnosis, surgery and after care. Top notch customer support. You are in great hands with Dr. Winternitz.

This office is excellent! I am a patient there (NOT just stopping by) and an LVN and I have been extremely satisfied with my level of care… from pre-​operative appointments to the actual surgery itself and into the post-​operative stage. The office is more than willing to help-​from acquiring your medical records for you, to helping you with any prosthetics or medications you are prescribed. They have always been available whenever I call and always return my phone calls promptly. I would be more than willing to pass on their info to others who need orthopedic care.

One of the reasons I choose this doctor was because of his proven success and history with professional athletes. His office is filled with hand signed photographs from his clients giving testimonials to his abilities as a surgeon. His staff is great too. YouTube videos and pages on his website share the range of specialized care. From sprains and fractures to total hip and knee replacements. Great long term patient relations and follow up!

I have seen him for several things and he does his best and does what can be done. And he spends time with you explaining what he needs to explain. No rush! I trusted him to do surgery on me and what better recommendation can I give? Leo Hamel
