Solid Rock Gym

Really fun place to come with friends. I like to come on Fridays for ladies night ($ 10, for men and for women). It includes everything you need– the harness, shoes, and chalk. It’s a pretty big area with different level options lined out for you. I like that it doesn’t get too crowded so that you can move around to different areas frequently.

Went in for ladies night ($ 10, but the deal is applicable to all, even if you’re not a lady!) with a couple friends who had minimal experience. Walk in, sign your life away, pay, and get outfitted. For $ 10, you get the day pass, harness, shoes, and a quick lesson.
Once we were all settled, they took us to the simple wall to give us a quick low down on how to belay, climb, and get down. After we all went through it once, we were on our own! With no prior experience, I’d say this place was beginner friendly, but also had some challenging walls with inclines and what not, there’s definitely a fair share of options to choose from. There’s even taped routes with varying difficulty, but as a beginner-​that was too much to think about, we were just trying to get to the top without falling!
Aside from the standard walls, they had an area for bouldering– basically no ropes! EEK, talk about scary… but it actually wasn’t too bad and we made it to the top no problem… we did take the easiest side though haha. Once at the top of the boulder area, you can simply opt to go around to the upper area and take the stairs down. The upper (workout?) area is basically just an open space for I guess miscellaneous work outs and strengthening, for example-​there was one of those peg climbing walls. Stairs are a lot easier to take down than trying to go back down the boulder ;] haha. Besides the upper area, there’s also an area back on ground level with standard gym/​workout machines as well that you could use, we didn’t venture there though.
One of my favorite parts was the slack line that’s set up between two of the climbing walls. Holy smokes, I knew slack lines were no easy task, but it was even more difficult than expected! My friend asked the staff for some quick tips, and they were super helpful and friendly! Somewhat conquered standing and taking a half step by the end of the night thanks to their tips.
After such a great experience, I’ll definitely be back soon! The place is well kept, and we felt like we really got our money’s worth. There’s plenty of options to keep you entertained, between the slack line, bouldering, and climbing– you’ll definitely be feeling worked out by the end of your trip! I can’t wait to head back for some more RockSolid fun at SolidRock (see what I did there ;] cheesy I know!). Side note-I’m sad I was too pumped on adrenaline and anxiousness that I forgot to check in here… oh well, like I said-there’s definitely going to be a next time for me!

Biggest and best place to rock climb in San Diego. I loved Solid Rock. Having recently been to Vertical Hold and hearing about the other place in Mirimar, I’d have to say this is absolutely the best. The space is very big. Almost double that of Vertical hold. Its got friendly staff and the prices are really fair. The only down side is that its a bit far for people who are more down south. (aka UCSD students like myself).

Friendly staff and awesome special during the week. $ 10 including shoes and harness after 4pm til closing time (9pm) during their Ladies night which was verified with them that Men are also welcome and receive the same deal. Looks to be only on Wednesdays and Fridays. There aren’t as many bouldering options than other ones I have been to but they have decent amount of top rope options. Wished their V0s were a little more doable as they seem pretty tough for a beginner like myself. They have some nice obstacles (ninja warrior style) on their second level which I plan on trying out next time. Don’t make the same mistake I did which was attempting it after top roping and bouldering for the majority of my stay here. I’ll be back!

I have had many groups of kids come in for rock climbing where I work. They are always good with them and have lots of help when we need it.
Joined recently and have not regret it,
— lost a start. Well I lost a sweater there, I called and it was found. I came in and it was lost. It climbed away I guess.

Took my 8 y/​o daughter during mid-​week. She loved it. Staff was attentive and helped her out a lot. Lots of fun for kids.

I’ve only been here 2 times an both times I went they were amazing. When I went the first time I learned how to belay my friends and I ha so much fun. The belaying lessons are free and if you don’t get how to do it the very friendly staff will show you how again.

My bf took me here for my first time rock climbing and it was a great experience!
Staff there was super friendly and taught me what I needed to do.
Also, Tues and Thrs. if you have a college or military ID, it’s only $ 10.

I took my very brave 4 year old grandson there today… Not knowing what to expect.
First, it’s pretty… and to a little guy and his worried granny, very high. So SHOUT out to TARA, who gave up her break to help us. Three tries, and one half hour later, and he topped out. What an incredible self-​esteem booster, plus great exercise. Thank you Tara… Not only did he love it, but more importantly, you made it possible for us to create some very special memories. We will be back.

We just had a birthday party at Solid Rock for our daughter and a dozen of her friends… and they all had a BLAST! The staff was very friendly and helpful and they did a great job making sure everyone was safe and had a good time. Carl was especially cool and gets major props for helping everything go so smoothly. We had such a good time we’re now considering a family membership! If you get the chance, we highly recommend you check this place out.

Staff was attentive, kind, and sincerely worried and cautious with new climbers. Had an awesome employee party here and I am seriously thinking of a membership. Awesome workout without even realizing you’re working out. Seemed like there was a good variety of climbs from beginner all the way to advanced. Very neat place and they’ve earned a couple return visits from me and this good review !!

Stopped in while visiting my brother that lives in the area. The gym was clean and had good ventilation.
Staff was attentive and friendly. I only tried the bouldering routes but there are many top roping routes.

So much fun to spend a day on the weekend or an evening during the week! The price is not too bad– about 18 bucks to climb. but that’s from open hours to closing. So you can def. Get your money’s worth!
They have plenty of different walls to climb, all with different levels and patrerns. There’s even a few ropeless areas as well.
Great for families and group activities.

My husband and I became members after only climbing here twice. We LOVE Solid Rock and find ourselves here a 1 – 2 times a week now– bouldering/​traversing and top rope climbing.
Every single member of the staff has been nothing but friendly and helpful. Anything you need, they’ve got you covered.
During the week they run specials almost every single night– SRG t-​shirt night, college and military night, and *ladies* night (but everyone is welcome!) Climbing on the weekends is going to cost you a little more, but depending on the time you go you may be the only people in the gym. Be aware that there are kids parties held here so if you don’t want to be surrounded by that, maybe avoid coming on a Sunday afternoon. College night can get pretty packed too.
SRG has something for everyone– if you’ve never climbed before or want to experience a new place it’s definitely worth checking out!

i pretty much know nothing about rock climbing, but as a few of my friends have started getting into it and recommended it as a good way to get a different sort of workout, i decided to check it out.
i like to say that «when the student is ready, (Ron) #Palustre will appear» because this guy is a beast at climbing. maybe i’m being a little biased since i actually know Ron, but the staff all around seemed to be very knowledgeable about the different types of rock faces, techniques to climbing, and best ways and spots to traverse the walls. and of course there are different set ups for varying difficulty levels so you’re always challenged.
i only visited for about an hour but i feel like i definitely got a full body workout since the muscles get a different workout from a regular gym session (resistance training) when you climb. it’s nice to see people of different age groups getting into climbing: younger parties of kids getting active (SR hosts birthday climbing parties), college age more-​serious climbers, etc.
this is the first and only climbing gym i’ve visited but i was impressed with the organization, cleanliness, and knowledgeable staff. oh and Ron is a beast — skilled climber, good teacher. good on ya, sir!

I’m a noob to climbing so I was a bit nervous to come here but of course I had nothing to be nervous about. The staff was great! Easy going, helpful, and just overall very pleasant. They have a ton of multi grade top rope routes ranging from easy to 5.8s and higher. Their bouldering section is super cool! They have one that’s smaller and I’m assuming more for your younger climbers. The other bouldering section is dope with one side having a negative slant and another side with a complete overhanging arch with routes that go from one side to the other. I love that the bouldering routes top out and takes you to their second level where they have peg boards and training walls as well as a slack line. They have everything that you need for climbing, even lead climbing routes and a crack wall! So cool! If I have any negative to it, it feels a little dark in there, but that doesn’t matter much.
Also, I love that they have $ 10 college nights! Such a great deal. Hit up Poway solid rock for some dope climbing. Climb on y’all!

Oh my goodness, this place is SO tiring. My friends and I went on a Wednesday where it was just $ 10 for the whole day — I believe it was just a summer special. But the pricing is pretty good for an all-​day activity.
It was my very first time rock climbing, and the workers were very helpful. Actually, I climbed a 46 foot wall OUTDOORS (at 6^th grade camp hahaha) and several mini walls at parks. So I guess you could say this was my first legitimate rock climbing experience.
If it’s you’re first time or if you’d like to refresh your memory on how to climb, the worker gives you your gear, and has you practice on an easy wall. After that, you’re on your own to roam the place!
My here are several different walls, some more challenging than the other. But it’s extremely fun.
4 hours of upper body strength does a body good!

The thing that sets this climbing gym apart from all others is the staff. I’ve frequented every climbing gym in San Diego many times, and Poway’s Solid Rock Gym has, by leaps and bounds, the friendliest staff. When I’m climbing at SRG, I feel like I’m with family.
This gym offers a wide array of routes (35 ft. high), from beginner-​friendly to harder 5.12 to 5.13 routes. There is an overhanging lead climbing section (you don’t have to bring your own rope or belay device since SRG will provide one for you if you’ve passed their lead certification test). There are also plenty of bouldering problems (mostly from V1 to V7) for climbers of all levels.
Solid Rock is also kindest to your wallet. Climb on!

Always fun here :) The color codes change every so often, but I haven’t gotten to the point where I’m comfortable enough to try anything harder than the white XD.
The air conditioning here kind of sucks, just hang out on top of the bouldering walls and you’ll be good!

I was there for a kiddie party.
I was a «belay» all day, helping my kid climb a bunch of walls.
That tight strap harness really squishes your nuts.
