Scripps Hospice

A client of mine just signed up with Scripps Hospice having former been working with Scripps Palliative Care under Dr. Corbin. Palliative Care made for a nice transition into hospice and Robyn our nurse holds a special place in the families heart, she did an awesome job serving us. Our new team Kimmy (RN), Carol (HHA), Dr. Yerma are such compassionate and genuinely nice caring people that it’s giving the hardest time on the family a little sigh of relief. They are available everyday and are quick with returning calls or coming in when we need them. This is only our second week with Scripps Hospice, but so far it’s already been such a nice experience.

Scripps Hospice allowed me to spend the last week of my husband’s life at home with medication to calm his fears and pain.
I feel their work is gifted and they are chosen to do it. My husband’s care was excellent without all the noise and frequent interruptions of a hospital room. He did not want to die, so I have no sweet good byes to share, but he did go in comfort at home. I am still seeing a bereavement counselor and know the chaplain is a phone call away. The HHA were excellent! My only suggestion to this group is that the nurse listens and shares less of himself. Our nurse was here and did a great job but had way to much to say about his happy life as I was losing my husband. His nursing care was good. The social worker, Ann is a powerful, kind woman. Her help to me was so appreciated. I believe the Palliative team at Scripps Memorial led me to this hospice and DR Alvarado is the nicest person of all. They wanted me to allow my husband to have some peace. Scripps Hospice is a far better choice than a nursing home. I am now getting counseling from their bereavement associate. I just wish it were more often but she is very busy, and she does come to me. My faith has given me the comfort I need to look back and be grateful for this team.

There truly are no words to express what a wonderful, compassionate, knowledgeable, and caring team of hospice workers! They were amazing in providing support, guidance, and care to my partner and I as we cared for my mom to her final days in our home. Amanda (nurse), Henry (Chaplain), Nancy (social worker), and all the on call staff were so incredible through this whole emotional and powerful experience. The time my mom needed hospice was brief, but from the minute hospice care started, they were there, medical supplies started arriving that night, and all worked hard to make sure we were not alone. Thank you to all at Scripps Hospice. This challenging and life-​changing experience could not have been as positive and organized had you not been here to help all along the way — before, during and, even now, after. God Bless… your rewards will be 10-​fold!

Our father was admitted to hospice care with the Scripps group and initially they seemed very attentive and helpful, but as we moved forward in the process they became very hard to communicate with. At one point we spoke with the director of the program because Dr Bodtke would not return our calls or emails. The director, Dr Corbin told us he has the same problem and on several occasions has had to speak with her about insubordination ! Jason is in place to block access to everyone on the team, at one point insisting we complete a from allowing them to communicate by email, despite having provided them a fully executed durable power of attorney for health care. He was essentially asking that we complete a form saying «You may talk to me because I have the legal authority for you to talk to me»

I chose Scripps Hospice over Elizabeth and Vitas hospices, for good reason. The other two, while being enthusiastic at the beginning, quickly let me down and did not follow through on what they promised. Since signing on with Scripps recently to take care of my husband with Alzheimer’s, the support has been fantastic. The nursing, caregiving, chaplain, and volunteer visitor have been the best. I am encouraged to call them anytime with any concern. And I have done so. Their response is immediate and thorough. I feel so well cared for by them. And of course the biggest beneficiary is my husband. I also have a grief counselor provided by Scripps. I have been assisted by caregiver resource, and an Internet support group as well. That’s all, since this 15-​year nightmare began. It’s been a very lonely and painful journey with my husband, but Scripps hospice is the shining star at the end of the trail. I heartily recommend them. May God always bless and hold them dear. They are a genuinely caring team.

My husband’s journey is complete and the «A» team (Marilyn, Carol, Lori, Jeri, and Dr. Verma) were absolutely wonderful. Hospice is a ‘calling’ and these folks served us when all of our defenses were down and we were most vulnerable. There are not enough words to praise them, nor adquately thank them. They are truly angels of mercy and I will always be grateful to each and every one of them. God bless them all!

I highly recommend Scripps Hospice. My grandmother was a patient at Scripps. The hospice nurse that came to evaluate her took his time and worked very hard to get her approved. She was declining rapidly. She was luckily approved and we were able to bring her home the next day. I cannot thank Scripps enough for giving us the gift of having our grandmother die at her own home with us by her side. All of the triage nurses, Dr. Bodtke, Jason (her RN), Adela and everyone at Scripps Hospice was wonderful. Thank you!

Scripps Hospice stepped in when they were needed most. Almost immediate response when we called them. Professional, caring, and went above and beyond expectations. You never really want to be in a position of needing hospice, but if you are, they were top-​notch.

Phenomenal. Lisette, Darci, Alan, Ron, Mila (Ilya?) and Amanda took care of us. They are all top Notch. Cannot say enough good things about this end of life experience. I wish all of our healthcare experiences were so pleasant.
Scripps is new to the hospice business– but I’d say that all of the staff we dealt with and probably greater than 90% of the staff came over from San Diego Hospice when they closed.
