San Diego Pond and Garden

I moved into my new home last year, and with it came a small DIY pond with goldfish. San Diego Pond and Garden has been by my side since.
It started with an initial «house call.» I received very valuable information on basic pond maintenance and necessary supplies were brought along as well. During subsequent visits to the store, staff have been courteous and helpful. I enjoy going to the store, plus staff have given me good advice druing telephone calls as well.
Last Saturday, I called the store when my fish were struggling and my pump wasn’t working. Steve made the extra effort to take care of the pump while I was at work, and thanks to his efforts, I came home to a functional pond. The majority of the fish survived and are thriving.
He even left my backyard in better condition than it was before his arrival. Plus he remembers his customers. In a world where business has become so impersonal, it is nice to see such a personal touch.

I have a 9 year old fifteen hundred gallon concrete koi pond. There is a 10 foot stream that was leaking. It was certainly beyond my skill level to fix it. Steve came out on a consultation and suggested to patch the leak with hydraulic cement.
The following week Justin came by to patch the leak. He scraped tons of weeds that had grown between the rocks of the stream. After cleaning, he applied hydraulic cement which dries in twenty minutes. it was similar to grout, but the patch had to be correctly done to ensure the leak was patched. He also looked at my Ultima filter and figured out that it had old media which was too small to be effective. He removed the old media and replaced it with new media.
My stream is now leak free and the filter runs about twice as much water as before. I am very impressed with the work done by Justin. It took Justin about 5 hours to do all the work. During much of that time, i asked him questions about pond maintenance. He is extremely knowledgeable. He told me he has been working with ponds for over 12 years and it shows. I would be happy to hire him again in case I have other problems.

My family and I were in need of a pond clean-​out. Sadly, our pond was neglected for over a year. After reviewing pond companies online, San Diego Ponds & Gardens was listed and highly rated by customers. Katie (office) and Joe (service tech) were wonderful! So glad my family and I went with San Diego Ponds & Gardens. We are now planning on using them for regular service maintenance! Here is a before and after pic.

I have had San Diego Ponds & Garden come out several times over the past few years to clean out my pond/​fountain and to replace the pump. Justin is very knowledgeable, friendly and honest and always does a great job.

Great little store! It’s out of the way but I’d rather go here than the other pond stores in San Diego. Owner is nice, staff is friendly, and cool little pond in the back!

My wife and I bought s home in Santaluz last year that included a 2,700 gallon goldfish pond. We had never had a fishpond and tried our best to combat the algae and feed the fish. We contacted San Diego Pond and Garden and Justin came out to assess our situation. He suggested a pump with twice the output, an ultraviolet light and biological filter. We had Justin come out and deep clean the pond. He treated the fish with respect. He retrofitted the system with upgraded pump, new biological filter and UV lamp. The pond looks new and functions great! Justin did a great job! We are completely satisfied with his work and suggestions on pond management.

I bought a koi pond along with our home. Did not know anything about koi and went to San Diego Pond and Garden. Steve and Justin have been a great source of help and information. When one of my skimmers went down, they provider a loaner air pump and worked me into their busy schedule for repair. Justin came out, found the problem with minimum expense. Thanks.

I found this great shop recently when looking for some water plants. They have a nice selection of water lilies and other plants, plus a lot of koi. I could see the shop was well stocked with all things pond related. When the pump in our pond went out I decided to call them and they ordered a new one for me. The owner’s son came out, repaired the area, installed the pump, cleaned out the pond and also re-​potted the water lily I bought. He was very professional, knowledgeable and worked really hard to get everything working again. We will definitely use you again! Thanks for the great work!

I do love this place but lately it has been really hit or miss, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Its a bit of a drive for me to go here, so when I arrive I’m hoping for friendly staff and the supplies I need. I don’t think that’s asking too much…
The majority of the time I go here the staff pretty much has completely ignored me. I’ve literally been in there for 10 minutes without even a ‘hello’. I can’t blame them for not searching for a sale from me if women who come in with their baby don’t often buy, but acknowledging I’m there would be nice. That being said, if you do approach them to ask a question they are definitely helpful.
The last few times I’ve been in there they’ve seemed a little lacking on the supplies. From what I’ve noticed, they don’t typically carry supplies for smaller ponds, but still have universal items like planting media, water additives, baskets & bags, and plants. Although, everytime except once that I’ve gone in for plants they’ve had nothing but their highest priced ones left.
Regardless of anything business related, its still 100% worth it to go in just to take a look at their beautiful koi — both inside & out.
Oh, and check out their birdbaths… they’re absolutely stunning.

We have bought all our Koi pond needs here in recent times since we discovered this business. Last week our Pondmaster pond pump stopped working. Thank God it was still under warranty. I phoned these guys and then took the pump down to the shop the next day. They had it sorted in 5 minutes, whacked a new impeller in and it was as good as gold. This is an exceptional business because it has exceptional service.

I stopped in last week noticing that the outdoor sign mentioned aquatic plants.
But when I queried the sales person, she indicated they didn’t have any. No explanation or out of stock story… they should really update their info.
They had lots of pretty Koi in various sizes and colors though…

Although not very close to me, this is my place to go for all things pond. The people are always very helpful, very knowledgeable and happy to assist with any questions. They have the supplies I need and the prices on bulk food are terrific.
In short, don’t miss this place.

This is my go-​to pond store despite there being another store much closer to me. I buy the basics: Koi food and test equipment. I go to this store to get my koi and pond related questions answered the staff has always taken the time to help me out with issues I have had. The owner actually gave me some great advice about roots invading my pond and suggested a less expensive solution than hiring his team (a problem which he was willing to take on if I wanted to spend more money than necessary). The store has also hosted San Diego Koi Club meetings — a great show of support for koi hobbyists — and gives a Koi Club member discount.

Went there today to buy some plants for my latest landscaping endeavor– a garden pond!!! I forced my boyfriend to install this thing for me on a whim: my front yard is boring– square patch of green sod, blaa blaa blaa. I wanted something EXCITING!!! I wanted something DIFFERENT!!! I wanted a badass pond that would make all my neighbors jealous!!!
Gave the water a few days to stabilize, or do whatever it is that water is supposed to do… did a little research online, and although this place is quite a trek from Spring Valley, I decided to go and let me tell you: TOTALLY worth the drive!!!
If you go there for no other reason than to see all the Koi, it is worth it. They helped me pick out some pretty awesome plants, and didn’t try to upsell me. I really appreciated that… when it comes to ponds, I’m **clueless** and these people could have sold me some waterlogged daffodils and I would have been none the wiser. I left with a nice little variety of pond plants (don’t ask me what they are… one of them is a poppy, and the rest I forgot the names of) and the warm fuzzies. Will definitely be back. :)

Very informative and kind people work here. Fish are managed properly and professionally. I go to this place because they have great integrity and the prices are fair. The contractors are top notch. They are professional, courteous and don’t give you the run around. I live in Poway and am thankful these guys are nearby.
I see some complaints here about the prices. To put it this way, this place is pretty much neck and neck with Amazon and other competitor prices. When in doubt, call them first and ask the prices. They even state that clearly on their website.
I will continue doing business with this company for years to come.

We checked out their products online and after doing an extensive comparison online, we drove to their store to buy a pond liner. We picked them because they advertised better prices. When we got to the shop they changed the prices from what they listed online stating they hadn’t gotten around to changing their online prices. Not a good thing.

Ive been going here for my Koi fish supplies for years and everyone is friendly, professional and willing to share their knowledge and answer questions. There is a beautiful Koi assortment along with all the things you need to feed and care for them. Their prices are a little high, but considering all they do, including tracking your purchases, they’re a real bargain! I searched all of San Diego and this is by far the best.

Great little place for pond supplies, beautiful koi selection, and live water plants like water hawthorn, lilies, papyrus, etc. Prices can get a little steep but the people are welcoming and very helpful.
Koi range from small (2″) to large (10″ — 12″) and approx $ 10 — $ 100 each.
Beautiful waterfall/​koi pond in the back, this is also where all the live plants are. There’s not a gigantic selection of plants, but they are well-​chosen.
