Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft

This place could use better organization. It took me a while to find what I needed. They do have a lot of variety (especially with fabrics) and they have pretty much everything you need for sewing, even some stuff for crafts and home décor. Parking is not bad since it’s in a plaza with a lot of other stores. Checkout didn’t take too long either so that’s a plus! I’ll probably be back if I need anything sewing related :)

My experience here was interesting… my friend and I came here to pick out fabrics to make a few throw blankets. The only word I can pick out to describe the staff is ‘interesting’ as they appeared slightly disorganized, slow to help us, but they were friendly, but they just didn’t appear totally with it… I know that I was feeling stressed out because I was in a rush, but they were not in any rush to help us so I got annoyed. My friend and I wanted one fabric but cut into 2 pieces, and they basically said their policy is only one cut per fabric when there is a long line. The response that I chose not to say out loud was that they wouldn’t have had such a line if they had been moving a bit faster!
Either way, they were nice and helpful, one staff even suggested finding a coupon we could use online, which was nice of her. Overall I would go back I just suggest for folks to go in with some time and patience.

Lovely store. Neat and creative collection and not very cluttered. They have a huge collection of fabrics in various textures. The people in the store are very friendly, I was helped by a polite girl Claire. I would highly recommend checking the store out.

This place pains me every time I walk in. I want so hard to love this place… I mean I used to work here. But unless you have a spare 2 hours to spend in line waiting for fabric to be cut and then another 2 to check out at the registers, stay away.
Today I went in, saw the line at the cut counter (15 deep at least) and immediately grabbed a number. I then proceeded to browse around the store, pick out my fabric, browse some more… and they still were 10 numbers away from mine. This is the norm here, it’s crazy. From a business perspective I don’t understand how this is acceptable day after day. It’s extremely understaffed, the poor women who work here are like slave drivers.
I would honestly give this place 0 stars if I could it’s that bad. The worst part is, it’s been like this for years and they’re losing business. I’ve watched 4 different people give up waiting and leave. It’s quite sad.

Well, they are at it again at the Joann’s in Poway… At least this time the dog isn’t riding in the cart.

Awful service. The ladies at the cutting center paid more attention to each other than to their customers. Slow and inconsiderate of customers time. Manager distracted workers and discussed previous employee and how they got fired. Inappropriate conversation in front of customers.

Laying in bed just thinking about my new craft project that I started this evening. It just makes me think of how much I love old faithful: Joann’s. Going there gives me the same feeling as kids get when they go back-​to-​school shopping. Ya know, where they get to pick out all new highlighters and erasers, whatever they deem necessary for their super cool pencil box. Anyway, Joann’s has everything! Their yarn assortment cannot be compared to anywhere else. Their fabric selection makes me weak at the knees. Scrapbook doo bops and craftiness galore. They also have really cool household decorations, especially during holidays.
On top of all the coolness I listed above, they text me a coupon once a week! Everything is so reasonable, especially with the coupons. And I can’t click continue without mentioning the staff, they’re the nice people you meet out that you just end up talking to, utterly enjoyable and very useful. You will forever have my business and at least a little sliver of my heart Joann’s!

In all honesty I really don’t know why people are giving this Joann location such bad reviews. It’s a craft store, and I don’t know what magical place they’ve been, but it always takes awhile to get called at the fabric cutting station, especially around holidays.
I’m giving this store 5 stars because it definitely beats the other locations I’ve been to in SD. The staff is always friendly, and the fabric is nicely and orderly presented. I really didn’t know how much I valued organization until I went to the Joann on Midway Drive in Point Loma. It is literally a war zone; it’s impossible to find any fabric because the spools are piled up so high that they’re taller than me!!! At this location, the spools are nice and neat, and whatever fabric you’re looking for is easily accessible.

Do not go to this store for custom framing. The only Jo-Ann’s who can frame is the Temecula store. Michael’s (down the street) can accommodate your framing needs.
Nice yarn selection. The yarn isles are divided up by brand. However, the staff stocks yarn wherever. This makes it difficult to find what you need. I have been here several times hoping the yarns would be stocked by brands indicated in the isles. No such luck.
The staff seem disinterested, and one cashier is just rude. The bathroom is horrendous. Very filthy.

The gals who cut your fabric are nice.
It’s kinda hard to find someone to help on the sales floor with questions you may have.
The cupons are good. Otherwise they’d be a lot more spendy than the fabric at Walmart. Not much competition in the area with fabric stores so I guess they can name their price point.
Still, it’s our go to fabric store.

This place is old-​school! It’s like a poor woman’s Michaels.
But, they have good discounts if you download their app. We used the app for 60% off!
There is plenty of parking and this place is never busy.

I don’t often like to give 3-​stars or below, but unfortunately this JoAnn’s Fabric location has not left a positive impression in my book. Sadly, the other reviews for the business reflect the same opinion and experience I have had with this store.
The biggest downfall by far is the fabric cutting station, and the lack of staff able to assist the customers. The wait always seems to be well over 20 minutes, despite the fact that only 6 – 7 people are often just ahead of me. Even more problematic than the number of staff available, is the actual pace of the service. Despite the large group of women waiting around the desk to be served, the attendants constantly make small-​talk with every customer and move too slow keep the line moving steadily. If only more quick and efficient staff could attend to the desk, the service would go much faster. If I could just take the fabric, cut it myself, and go to the check-​out, I would. JoAnn’s should definitely look into an automated «self-​checkout»!
Lastly, on a regional note, please open more locations JoAnn’s. I had to drive from Del Mar to Poway because it was the only way to doge terrible traffic to either the Carlsbad or Point Loma location. I love crafts, but driving 30 minutes one way, only to wait another 30 minutes for fabric to be cut is nonsensical to me. I do hope JoAnn’s improves their business and service soon.

After leaving the store, I texted my husband and told him I’m NEVER returning to this store again. For those who know me, that takes a lot to make me mad or upset.
I believe one of the managers helped me (I say this because she had «keys» and took a roller cutter out for me. This is where the encounter began…
As I was getting fabric measured and cut, I asked the associate if she can get a roller cutter out for me (since it was locked up). She replied a manager would need to help me. The manager, Debbie happen to be behind her and asked me what kind of roller cutter. I told her Fiskars, then she said which one (in a irritated tone). I told her I will be right there after I get my fabric. I met her where the Fiskars were located. She took it up to register.
The line was 6 people deep and one cashier. By the time it was my turn, Debbie open a register to help me. I mentioned again about an exchange for the roller cutter. She said, why are you exchanging it, just buy a blade. I told her I just purchased it. I was looking at the date on receipt. I guess I took too long, she grabbed from my hand!
She said, you bought it the end of February. Yes, and it’s dull, that’s why I’m exchanging it. Again, she’s telling me to buy a blade??? I said in a calm voice, I don’t think it should be dull in just a couple weeks? As she’s exchanging it. She was still telling me to buy a blade! I told her I did purchase an extra blade, but didn’t want to change it since I just bought the roller cutter.
I did not fight or raise my voice to her anytime during this encounter. So it surprised me as to why she felt she needed to pick a fight with me. She was telling me she was having a bad day and can’t wait to go home.
I just wanted to exchange my roller cutter, get my fabric, and start my projects. Although at one point I almost wanted to walk out and leave everything.
The discounts and the sales are good, but customer service is not! If you have to go there, good luck.

You know you’ve turned into your mother when you’re shopping for a tomato pincushion and a thimble. I swear I saw a field of gray hairs sprout out of my head while waiting for my number to be called.
For those not in the know, you need a number to have your selected fabric cut. Which is fine except the cutters move at a glacial speed while you sift sadly through a stack of Butterick patterns from the 80s. Leave yourself ample time for this process… and bring your patience.
Aside from the drudgery of waiting for a foot of fabric to be cut and the dismal feeling you get from some of the workers,
they are usually well stocked. I found everything I needed there at a reasonable price. Lucky me found faux leather at a ridiculously low price and I was able to fashion some pretty nifty pieces out of my find like a peplum belt and a pair of faux leather wings… fancy! Plus I had a coupon. Cheers to cheap for the thrifty DIY seamstress.

It is laughable at how the lines grow at check out and yet there’s only one cashier. Seriously understaffed.

They are very helpful and helped me locate fabrics I had been looking for for a while

As a frequent shopper here at this location the previous reviews are true, for such a large store with plenty of fabrics, notions, beads, etc., they always seem to be understaffed. However when you do flag down an employee and/​or get your number called at the cut counter, you will no doubt get their undivided attention and assistance without being rushed. Honestly, I’d rather have the person taking their time cutting fabric and being completely accurate rather than getting home and finding an uneven cut or inches to a yard off just to rush us out for the next number to be called.
I have to take a star off because the one thing I do not like that happens quite often is watching the employees watch customers get away with being down right mean and unapologetic. Employees please make the customer with one piece of elastic wait their turn and not cut in front of me and my 5 bolts of fabrics. I pulled a number just like the rest if the people hovering around the counter. Lastly, please give at least 30 seconds to get thru the sea of fabric filled carts to get to the counter before called the next number and having a customer weave in front of me because she had the next said number. Sorry, that was more of a comment for the rude customer, not you.
Regardless, I think this store has one of the larger selection available, that’s what bring me back. It’s just the constant pushy women I always have to maneuver around because they always seem to have a bigger project than me that I cringe at as I enter this store.
Last thing… always search Joann Coupons on your phone. There’s ALWAYS a coupon to be used.

Worst JoAnns ever! I came here yesterday with my sister to get 3 yards of fabric. We grabbed a number at the cutting table because the last time we didn’t know they had a number system so we had waited 30 minutes. We figured this time if we grab a number first and then go get the stuff we need we wouldn’t be waiting as long.
Were we wrong!!! After finding the fabric I needed and grabbing the eyelet setter I wanted (about 20 minutes of shopping) our number wasn’t even close to being called! We had to wait an hour! A full hour to get our fabric cut! After waiting an hour there were still 5 people ahead of me, so I just left without buying anything because I had an appointment I couldn’t miss.
It was a complete waste of time. Next time I’m taking the extra drive to Yardage Town, the longest I wait there is 5 minutes and its way cheaper.
Unless you have the time to wait in the store for over an hour to get your fabric cut, I suggest not coming here. It doesn’t help they only had 2 people cutting fabric at a time and the employees move super slow with each customer. No wonder there’s such a long wait when it takes you 10 minutes to cut 3 bolts of fabric for someone. The employees have no sense of urgency when doing their jobs and they fail to see the lack of customer care they are providing.
Worse place ever! Never coming here again unless there’s an emergency, but even then I’d probably drive to the Oceanside location first.

Yes, it takes a lot of extra time buying fabric here. I don’t fault the employees for long lines. Jo-Ann’s management is at fault here. I have been to other Southern California stores and they are all run the same with not enough employees. I have seen these employees very frustrated.
The only reason I go to Jo-Ann’s is because of sales and coupons. But be aware that their fabric is not good quality I also frequent Beverly’s on Balboa Ave.

The store is very dimly lit and very untidy. I had to use my cell phone as a flashlight to be able to clearly see the fabric colors. When I asked if they could improve the lighting, an employee smirked and told me there was nothing they could do, although it is a common complaint.
The fabric section is actually quite small when compared with the store as a whole. There is more emphasis on holiday and home décor items. In the fabric section, there is not a large range of options, as there are usually not much more than several bolts of the same type of fabric.
The cut line is always long. The checkout line is always very long. I’ve come in and purchased just one roll of yarn and had it take nearly an hour.

Terrible. Most of the employees don’t look happy working here and/​or lack customer service skills. The one star was only for the convenient location but I’d rather drive to yardage town. Go elsewhere if you can.

Wow. I don’t even think I can put into words how terribly frustrated I was with the staff today. I went in to get a yard of one fabric. When I got to the fabric cutting line, I pulled number 89 and the counter was on number 67. There were two women working at the station. One of them, a skinnier blonde gal, was doing her job. The other woman, a Caucasian older white woman with glasses and dyed brown hair (I think her name was Susan?) was TERRIBLE. The line was really long and she insisted on initiating and having a really long conversation with every customer (about things that have NOTHING to do with crafts or sewing). I understand customer service and being friendly. but when you’re friendly to one customer and you ignore the needs of 10+ others. it’s not beneficial customer service!
After every fabric she cut, she would not only fold them up really slowly, but she would actually walk them back to where they belonged in the store and put them away! I’ve never seen someone do this when there’s a long wait! (They usually just put them in an area next to the cutting station and put them away later). She seemed very careless and had no interest in how we felt.
A few of the customers in line with me actually put there things down and left. We were all appalled at her behavior. I wish I had the words to describe this woman.
After literally waiting in line for an hour (and considering about 7 – 8 people left the store before their numbers were called) I was helped by the blonde woman at the counter, and had no complaints with her. I proceeded to the checkout and there was, of course, another line. There were only two employees on registers and when I walked up, there were about 6 – 7 people in front of me. One of the employees (A younger blonde girl) was on the phone with another JoAnn’s to help locate a fabric for a customer, the other was a gentleman (with brown hair in a pony tail) who was spending forever explaining how coupons work to the customer he was helping. The customer was hard to please, so I understand where he was coming from, but he could’ve done it in a faster, more efficient matter.
I think it took me another 20 minutes just to pay for my little scrap of fabric.
Moral of the story: It took me an hour and a half to buy a small piece of fabric today (And I think I spent 5 minutes looking for it because I know this store pretty well).
Next time, it will be worth the drive for me to go all the way to Yardage Town. The fabrics are considerably cheaper and I’ve never had to wait more than a few minutes in line.

This place is the mother of all craft stores. Lots of sales, holiday decorations and costumes; they had everything we were looking for. Oh AND the cashier let us use more than one coupon for our transaction (I mean multiple).
Sharing the love, I like that.

I think that all Joann’s are always bombarded with shoppers. The stores are crazy busy, especially during sales.
The staff is helpful on the floor and sometimes you get a zombie at the register, but for the most part I am a pleased customer.
