Specialties
We are a holistic small animal practice and the only AAHA certified hospital in Poway. We treat dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, reptiles, and other small exotic pets. We believe preventative medicine is extremely important. Toward that end you will find that we have done whatever we can to keep fees reasonably priced on the most essential things that all pets need… vaccinations, spay and neuter, dentistry, microchipping, heartworm testing, as well as flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives. We also offer holistic medical therapy including acupuncture, chiropractic, herbals, vitamin, and nutritional therapy.
History
Established in 1999.
Our building was once a popular hangout for the local Poway community as a Pizza Hut. Dr. Karen Perry and her husband converted the building into a veterinary hospital and founded Advanced Care Veterinary. Dr. David Gordon is the current owner and has now partnered with Dr. Karen Perry and Dr. Laura Halsey to offer advanced holistic care.
Meet the Business Owner
David G.
Business Owner
Dr. David Gordon received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from UC Davis in 1977. His degree in veterinary medicine took a circuitous route, first starting in California and ending in Italy where he graduated from the University of Perugia in 1983. From 1987 to the present, Dr. Gordon has been the owner and then medical director of VCA Arroyo Animal Hospital. He has guided its growth from a 1250 square foot strip-mall space to its current 8000 square foot freestanding building. Dr. Gordon is also the owner of Oceanside Veterinary Hospital in Oceanside. Dr. Gordon’s eldest son, Daniel, is a veterinary student at NC State School of Veterinary Medicine. His younger son, Adam, is applying to medical school this year. In his spare time he enjoys reading, hiking, traveling, physical fitness, and music. He and his wife Sharon share their home with Chauncey, a Yorkshire Terrier, who they rescued from an abusive home.
